How Green Becomes Wood

Alec smiled as he watched. "I hope she remembers that when she's our age and we're..." He hesitated. "Oh crap. I forget sometimes," he wheezed, thinking of the massive age gap between himself and his little sister.

"She will," Daizi promised. She sat back and adjusted how she held Ivy, "Okay, Hummingbird, let's go night-night." Then she carefully stood and brought Ivy upstairs to settle her down for bed.

Soon after she went up, Dark and Cooger came back inside with one happy, tired dog. Whatever they talked about didn't further stress Dark, but he still had that tired energy to him.

"Ba!" Alec greeted him happily but trying to restrain himself. "We got it on video! Ivy really is saying my name! Hi, Uncle Cooger. Good walk?"

"And Mama put Ivy down," Xander added for his knowledge.

"Mama put Ivy down," Xander repeated, figuring Cooger had been too distracted to hear.

"I'll go let her know you're on your way out so she can say goodbye," Alec said. He headed upstairs and tapped very lightly on the nursery door. "Mama? Cooger's leaving."

"Ah, yeah I guess that makes sense, this time of night," Cooger nodded.

"Is he?" Daizi asked quietly, "Okay. I'll be down in a second." She murmured something quietly and then after a few moments stepped out, quietly shut the door, and went downstairs to say goodbye. "Thank you for coming, Cooger."

"Always gotta come check up on my family," He said, hugging her tight.

"I will. See y'all, don't drive your parents too crazy, remember to take care of yourselves."

"Goodbye, Cooger," Dark said, "Thank you for coming."

Cooger looked at Dark for a few moments and then pulled him into a fierce hug, fully taking Dark by surprise, "You especially take care of yourself buddy, I love ya man."

Dark blinked, only straightening up after Cooger released him, "I... love you too. Text me when you get home."

"I always do," Cooger said, waved, and headed out. Then a few moments later came back in because he forgot the flowers Alec gave him. Then he said goodbye and left again.

After Cooger left a second time, Dark sighed, locked the door again, rolled his shoulders back, "Everything is alright cleaned up, yes?"

"Clean enough to shine," Xander assured him.

"And everything is put away," Alec said. He thought about adding a joke of, "even your daughter," but decided not to risk it. "Anything you are forgetting?"

Dark looked over Alec for a few moments, his thoughts locked securely behind his eyes, "I had been. If everything is cleaned up, I think I will go upstairs for the evening."

Daizi touched his upper back for a moment and then dropped her hand, "I'll be up in just a bit, Goose."
