How Green Becomes Wood

Milo turned when Xander suddenly spoke up, turning towards him, "Oh, um, thank you." He swallowed, taking the bag, feeling weird he didn't have something to give in return, but when he went through the bag he couldn't help but grin, taking time to look at each individual card, "These are awesome. Thank you." He turned them over to look at the back briefly, just to see if anything was written on them, but focused on the pictures and the places, "I've beent thinking about, um, getting a cork board. But I'm not sure, 'cause I don't want to put holes through my collection."

Xander had picked his favorite one that he also thought Milo would like and had written a brief, "To-From" in the corner as well as the name of the place where he'd gotten them. He didn't want to be too sappy, but he had wanted Milo to know they hadn't just been a random grab from a card carousel. "What about those... thumbtacks with the wide heads? You could trap the edge of the card under the head rather than pin it."

"Yeah, maybe," Milo considered it, not noticing how his desire to hang things up demonstrated a desire to actually settle in, "or maybe there are like... post-card covers? So I can put a pin through them instead of through the actual card."

Xander considered this for a moment and then pulled out his phone. After a few seconds of tapping, he said, "Yeah, apparently things like postcard sleeves exist. Most of them seem for, like, storage in a box, but a couple look like they can be hung up."

"Cool," Milo nodded, "I'll tell Peter they didn't have the cookies he wanted. Or, I guess I can still go and get them." He felt the money in his pocket, "I feel like I'm being... deceitful. I guess. I don't know why."

Milo nodded, following after Xander who knew where everything was, "Do you know the right kind of cookies? I mean, Peter kind of explained them, but I'd hate to but the wrong ones with his money. I also don't know what Alec would want."

"Alec will eat anything you put in front of him if it has any kind of sugar in it, and I think he likes Chips Ahoy or similar," Xander told him. They reached the vending machine, and he pointed out what he thought Alec would like as well as the cookies Peter liked best. They weren't actually Chips Ahoy, but they were similar.

After acquiring all of the snacks, Milo helped Xander bring everything back to the practice room and handed Peter back his change. Despite what he had said about worrying about being deceitful, when he walked in he said, "One of the snacks got stuck. We had to get help."

Xander glanced at Milo, a little surprised, but didn't say anything.

"Oh, yum! Honey bun!" Alec crowed.

"Remember, use the wrapper to not get your hands sticky before touching the piano," Xander warned.

Alec rolled his eyes. "I'm not four. I know that."

"Thanks, Milo!" Peter said around a crunchy cookie. "These biscuits are the best!"

"I wouldn't know, I've never had them before," Milo commented, tucking the postcards away in his bass case and then taking a sip of water. After a few moments, he repeated what he had said a few times, "This has been cool. I understand, you know, why my dad did this."

Peter leaned over and offered him one of his cookies. "Playing by yourself is a great experience, I love it, but playing with other people is something else entirely. A different level of fun and connection. As far as I'm concerned, you're welcome any time. You're way better than I expected! Not that I expected you to be bad, you're no noob, but you blew me out of the water, Mate."

Milo blushed, turning his face away, "My dad used to play, I didn't like not getting to hear it, so I played." He tugged lightly on his earlobe, "that's all, really. It's not fancy or dramatic or anything."

"Sometimes the best things aren't fancy or dramatic," Peter said.

Alec nodded. "I think it's sweet. And I agree. If you want to, we're here to give you some company. Musical company!"

"Don't you mean accompaniment?" Peter grinned.
