How Green Becomes Wood

When she was brought back to his chest, Ivy pressed herself upwards and poked and grabbed at Alec's face. Since he didn't have facial hair to grab, she instead grabbed at his lips.

Daizi laughed, "Put me in there, I'll get the grain shed opened without an issue. I won't have to try, I'll do it."

"Utterly incomprehensible, thank you." Dark replied, getting down off the couch to try to help manage his extremely curious baby.

"I can open doors like you would not believe." Daizi said, trying to hide her laughter behind too much pride.

Alec blew raspberries against Ivy's hands and pretended to chew her fingers. "Nom nom nom!"

"Wow, you have so many hidden skills I've never even realized you might have," Xander said dryly, heading for the stairs. "You are beyond belief there."

Ivy laughed, pulling her hand away from Alec before grabbing his face again, grinning her biggest smile at him, showing off all six of her teeth.

"I know, I know. And they said being blind would hold me back in the world." Daizi replied.

Alec pulled a fish face at Ivy and wiggled his cheeks as best as he could.

"I'm surprised you're not governor yet. I guess the call to research stuff was a little too strong for a political career," Xander smirked as he started up the stairs. "Lemme know if you change your mind and decide to run for governor."

Ivy only laughed harder, before flopping down against Alec. Although she didn't quite have hugging down yet, she had learned pushing against someone generally led to them hugging her, so it was the best she had. Continuing to sit near them, Dark managed to avoid interfering, but it was difficult with how precious they were with each other.

"Ah, there are too many skeletons in my closet to ever be elected," Daizi laughed, but didn't explain so Xander could successfully manage to make it upstairs as intended.

Alec laughed in return and wrapped Ivy in a bear hug. "You are such a squirmy little rapscallion, you!" he chortled, rocking as he hugged her. "So cute!"

Xander smirked to himself and continued on his way to shower, thinking that he wouldn't be surprised if at least one of Daizi's skeletons was a real one in a real closet.

"See?" Dark asked, while Ivy babbled to her brother, "That is what someone adorable is like. Entirely different."

Daizi shook her head, staying on the couch for the time being, "Goose, you realize the more you argue against it, the more they'll assert it, right? Surely you must."

"Ivy thinks you're adorable," Alec teased his father without looking away from Ivy. "Don't you, Ivy? Your Baba is the most adorable man you've ever seen! Outside of me. Right? And right behind me and Baba is Xander!"

"Sweet Miss Ivy-Qadira loves her Baba best out of any man or boy she's ever met, that's for sure!" Daizi grinned.

"I do not know how common it is for little girls to find their fathers adorable." Dark mused, pulling on his beard, "I think it runs counter to the way small children look to their parents for protection."

"Ah Pa!" Ivy replied with as much conviction as a baby could have.

"That is a question she has strong biases about," Daizi said, "You should count yourself lucky she can't speak yet."

"It also sounded lime she might have tried to say apple, so maybe they are what she loves best," Dark said a bit dryly as he tenderly touched the back of Ivy's head, who was busy snuggling down against her brother again.

Daizi sighed, laying back on the couch, "I can't wait until she starts saying words."

"We think she's starting to hit 9-month sleep regression, so we have to be cautious about making sure we settle her down as we head towards bedtime. We have a few hours yet, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious." Daizi explained to Alec.
