How Green Becomes Wood

"That seems fair," Alec agreed. "Now go do Ivy and wife things! Breakfast will be ready in just a few minutes." He turned to the coffee items and started cautiously putting things together, checking measurements twice as he went.

"Ivy is nursing, there is not much I can do with either of them presently." Dark replied, but accept the hint and went back upstairs and sat on the edge of his bed watching the pair of them. In nine months, it had never stopped amazing him that she could do this.
Neither of them really knew what to say to each other. They weren't fighting, there were no hard feelings between them, but it still felt strange. It was as if they loved each other too much to find words to say, so eventually Daizi broke the silence just by calling him by his name, and he accepted the invitation to come in closer, and held her as she held Ivy.

When breakfast was ready, all three of them came downstairs together.

The twins had set up breakfast as nicely as they could and had already cleaned up as much as they could to try not to give Dark a heart attack. They had all the possible toppings available, too, and drinks. Including Dark's coffee. Alec looked very proud of his coffee making.

"Ready for food, Ivy?" Alec asked, pulling around her high chair for her.

"She just ate," Daizi said, setting Ivy down in her high chair, "but she likes a second breakfast, don't you Hummingbird?" She tickled her daughter under the chin, unable to not smile at the way Ivy grabbed so tightly to her. "I'm not going anywhere!"

Dark observed the state of the kitchen, deeming it acceptable, and then picked up his coffee and took a slow sip, "This is well-made. Thank you."

"Yes, it is good." Dark assured him.

"I'm certain breakfast will be wonderful," Daizi promised, tucking an escaped strand of hair back. She was wearing it up and off her neck, and was still dressed in one of Dark's shirts, having chosen not to get dressed, but seemed more like herself, "Thank you for cooking."

"Welcome," Xander told her. "I'm going to get some work done this morning before we head out to the skate park. We'll eat lunch there and maybe dinner, depending."

"I can't remember the last time we ate out of a food truck," Alec remarked. "I'm looking forward to that!"

"Dark talked about going with you," Daizi remarked, "I might see if a friend can come over..."

"I can stay home," Dark said, getting up to make tea for his wife.

She shook her head, "You should go, have fun with them. It's not like we can drop Ivy down a half-pike," she got the name wrong, "in her stroller."

"I will not be skating either, but if you are sure..." He glanced at the twins, making sure both that they still wanted him there and that they wanted only him there.

Xander looked at Dark, a little surprised. "You really want to come?" He gave a slight nod with a half smile and stabbed his toast, clearly pleased in his "I'm too moody to show emotions" way. "Cool."

"Nice!" Alec clapped. "I don't think you'd like it much, Mama. Lots of noise and yelling and stuff, and I'm sighted and I have no idea what's happening a lot of the time. I could stay home with you if you wanted, but you might have more fun with a friend."

"You invited me," Dark replied, "Why would I not go?"

Daizi smiled fainly at Alec, "You seemed excited. I'm certain one of my friends will be able to come and visit. What time are you all leaving?"

"Spencer and Mittz are probably busy with the wedding... maybe I'll call over Jade or Gwen..." Daizi remarked, "Or Sally. But I feel a bit bad about how often I summon her without notice."

"Didn't she summone you without much notice once?" Alec pointed out. "So I guess it's not all one sided. Or if you wanted to really mix things up, you could go hang out at the Applebaums or go teach Lex how to garden!"

"Wow, those are fantastic choices," Xander said dryly.

"I don't think Blair Appelbaum would want to hang out with me, and I doubt there's much we can say to each other," Daizi replied, "I also don't think I know Lex enough to drop in unannounced. Anyway, if it's a skating competition, wouldn't she probably be there?"

"She might be," Xander agreed, "but it's not like an official thing. More unofficial."

"Oh well, at least I had suggestions," Alec laughed.

Once everyone was done eating, the twins got up and started cleaning everything up. Syrup had gotten onto the counter and didn't want to come up, but Alec did manage to get it off after some work.

"I'm sure there's somebody I can invite," Daizi said, considering it, but then very quickly said, "Not that I'd have a problem staying home by myself with Ivy, I love getting to spend time with her."

"We know," Dark said, cupping her face in his hand, "It is okay to want to spend time with adults."

After breakfast, he went upstairs to get dressed for the skatepark, while Daizi stayed downstairs, trying to figure out who would be available on short notice.

Xander went out to get a bit of work done before they left, taking some time to enjoy his hobby and alone time. Alec also went up to get ready, choosing to get dressed well in advance. Then he sat in his room and drew for a while, also taking some time to himself.

Xander came in shortly before they'd have to leave. He didn't have to think about what he was going to wear. The majority of his wardrobe was suitable for a skate park.

Dark came downstairs in a red button-down shirt with the top three buttons undone and his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and since Ivy wasn't going to be there, more of his collection of rings. He still looked too formal for a skatepark, but it was the best he could do, and he looked hot. People could deal with it. If anyone had questions, he'd point to his leather bracelet: he was clearly skate punk.

He did spend some time downstairs with his wife and daughter to try to make things easy for Daizk, but when it was time to go, he made his ardent goodbyes before a quick exit, for Ivy's sake. Daizi would've done well with him lingering, but she shooed him off too.

When they got to the skate park. there was barely any parking to be found. Most of the vehicles were battered old cars or soccer mom vans, meaning Dark's car stood out like a manicured thumb. A few of the onlookers hanging around at the top rail of the half pipe looked over admiringly. Xander led the way since he more or less knew where he was going, and Alec followed close behind, suddenly wishing he'd dressed to blend in more for once. His bright colors did anything but blend in.

Toby was talking with some friends at a bench, but when they all started staring at Dark, he looked over and grinned, waving enthusiastically.

"At least there's one friend in this crowd," Alec remarked.
