How Green Becomes Wood

Dark lifted Ivy above his head, murmuring sweetly to her, absolutely besotted. "Her eyes may be finished changing, too."

"It helps with how important cleanliness is to Dark, things aren't typically left out. Although I am certain she will find anything that is. We're just not there quite yet." Daizi said, rather proud they were able to talk about Ivy walking around.

"Most of the small bits and pieces that she could hurt herself with have already been rearranged and moved. Except for in the kitchen. We should probably put better childproof locks on the cupboards," Alec mused.

"Why not let her have one cupboard for herself that she can pull out whatever she wants? Nust out of the one," Xander suggested.

"We do need to add child locks, it is a miracle she does not get into the cabinets more."Dark agreed, lowering Ivy so he could kiss her tummy before lifting her up again,

"Having one she can access is a good idea, Xander." Daizi nodded, having not considered that, "Goose, remember we're winding her down."

Xander glanced at Daizi, surprised he'd had an actually good idea when it came to.Ivy, and.then ducked his head with a small, pleased smile.

Alec rose and started clearing away the dishes. "I guess that goes on the list of things to do soon!"

"At some point the house will be ready for her," Daizi sighed, reaching over to rub Ivy's back.

"And a month later she will move out." Dark concluded, looking into her pretty eyes, "We would have been more prepared, had she not arrived six weeks ahead of schedule."

Daizi stood up to bring her plate to the sink, "At least she's catching up, even if we're not."

"Is anyone ever prepared for a baby?" Alec asked with a frown. "We weren't planned at all. Peter was apparently not planned from what I've heard. Toby sure wasn't. Becky was born with something not too major but still required her to stay in the hospital for a few extra days. Tom once told me that his mother was determined to have an all-natural birth, but ended up with an emergency C-section because the cord was around his neck and he came out blue."

Xander stood abruptly. "Okay! That's good. More than I ever needed to know, thank you very much. What the hell kind of conversations do you and your friends have?" He shook his head and walked away, muttering under his breath in distress.

Dark brought Ivy close to his chest, and after a moment said, "My mother was fifteen."

Daizi listened to Xander hurry away, and briefly considered going after him, but then decided against it. Many things were her job, but she didn't feel much like talking him through his distress around pregnancy. They had exited that loop, and it was for his therapist to discuss.

"I am very grateful for that," Dark said, nuzzling Ivy's head with his cheek. It was strange, holding this person who had never had a bad experience with another person, as someone who had been, for the formative years of his life, had almost exclusively bad experiences. What a better life she'd have, and for the first time he recognized the benefits of her not being able to fully understand where she came from.

"Her pediatrician is very impressed with her." Daizi said, coming back to squeeze Dark's shoulders.

"Good! Well, I can clean all this up, so you three can go have quiet, winding-down fun elsewhere," Alec told them with a little shooing motion of his hands. He smirked at Dark's floury handprint but again said nothing about it.

Despite wanting to default to his typical if you're sure comment, Dark recognized what Alec was doing, so he thanked him and led Daizi away before she had a chance to argue. Ivy found it a bit frustrating to be restrained and shushed when she was getting too noisy for the evening. But she did like being cuddled, and she liked the way her parents doted on her. She was so safe, snuggled there, listening to her parents songs and stories. When it got too late, they brought her up to the nursery, where she had her last meal of the day, and was gently rocked and soothed to sleep.

After leaving their nursery, Dark convinced Daizi to take a nice relaxing bath, offering to draw it for her, and when she agreed, he also lit candles and incense and made sure to make it absolutely perfect for her.

The twins stayed out of the way and let Dark and Daizi relax and have a quiet evening. They had a quiet evening of their own, but without the bath or the incense. Alec did light a candle in their room because he liked the light smell and the flickering flame. They both settled down to reading, and then Xander transferred to writing, and Alec to drawing. A quiet, peaceful evening!"

While drawing the bath, he caught sight of himself in the mirror and realized he had beem walking around with his wife's hand on his face since they cooked and did his best to wash it off quickly, but it was deep in his beard. She hadn't been bringing him in for a tender kiss, she had actually shoved his face away, teasing him.

His plan had been to give her time alone, but then she asked, "Are you joining me?" in that tone, and he was more than willing to divert.

The next day went by smoothly and quietly with Alec just "happening" to be more available than usual to play with Ivy. Xander just "happened" to take on a couple of Daizi's usual household chores, stating he didn't have a lot to do at the moment. There weren't any sales or commissions happening in his store currently, he was caught up making the things he normally tried to keep in stock, and Cooger didn't have any jobs to take him on, so he was free until Judo class. Might as well do a few extra chores.

Lex did call Cooger that day and asked him if he was available and willing to help her deliver a larger commission on Wednesday for a delivery fee. Apparently, the truck the client had intended to use for transport needed some kind of repair, and Lex wanted it out of her garage for space rather than wait for a repair to be done.

Daizi didn't notice the anything suspicious, instead just guessing the twins were at the point many students reached where they found unlimited time boring and were ready to do anything to occupy themselves. It gave her some time to get a little extra work done in her garden, which she appreciated.

Cooger confirmed he was available then and would gladly come and help her move it, but told her teasingly she should think about getting her own pick-up.

Lex cheerfully retorted that she'd thought about it, but she didn't want to deny Cooger the big bucks that came with being a delivery person. Not to mention, it was more fun with two people. Easier to load and unload, and better conversation than talking with yourself or singing alone in the truck.

See? me not having a pick-up comes at great benefit to you! Lex teased. She paused a little, looking at "it's great to get to see you" and smiled a little. Friends are good to see once in a blue moon.

You on vacation? I'm struggling to imagine that. Your back, though, that's something to worry about! Could you try to injure yourself over the weekend if possible? Lex teased, though she did make a note to consider getting a couple of young, burly types on her hiring list.
