How Green Becomes Wood

"Ouch, dude," Xander groaned, putting a hand to his chest. "You're spiky today. What's next, a beard jab?"

"I like not being very bearded. I don't want one, so it makes it easy," Alec said happily.

"No, I cannot make a joke about that, I rarely get to see your chin. I mostly just get forehead and eyes." Dark replied with a little glint, "I would not know if you had one or not."

"You do have pretty eyes," Dark replied, the faintest hint of the smile on his face revealing how pleased he was to tease them. He was allowed to turn it back around on them once in awhile, "but do not let your brother know I said so, I do not know if he will be pleased to know anything about him is 'pretty.'"

"Really? That is a fact I didn't know," Alec said, brushing lightly at his eyes.

"It seems pretty obvious," Xander said. "But I suppose this is better than looking like we don't have any."

"It is less glamorous than it seems," Dark replied, knowing thick hair was not limited to face and head, "The problem with Walmart is they only have two cashiers, despite the veritable sea of cash registers."

"It does not matter to me, self-checkout is fine." Dark replied, navigating that way. The sooner they left the Walmart, the better. He hated how everything smelled like plastic and the florescent lights were exhausting, it made him want to wear sunglasses indoors.

"Fine, I'll do the scanning," Alec sighed in resignation.

The twins worked quickly, tag-teaming Dark to distract him when they needed to scan one of the treats they'd gotten specifically for him or Daizi. They did put back a few items, but there was still enough to ensure that the peanut butter cups and the skittles were well hidden. The torture of paying was quickly over, and they headed for the car.

Dark was firm that it was their job to put their snacks away, this was not his buisness. Daizi did ask about what they got, although she wondered why on earth Dark allowed them to get so much, it seemed unnecessary. Still, they promised to babysit for an ridiculously low amount, so... maybe that's why it was agreed to.

The twins pretended to grumble, but they willingly put everything away to wait until the next day. They would find a time and place to surprise Dark and Daizi with their treats later.

Ivy was napping when they made it home, so Dark decided to take the moment to go outside and brush Enkidu. They really should take him to a groomer's, but he was still in good shape. He just needed his undercoat brushed out.

While Enkidu was getting his brushing, Alec gave his poster one more look over before bringing it down to "show" Daizi. He'd taken her advice to use the quote she'd suggested as the center of his poster and had avoided all signs of glitter or bright colors. Instead, it was a fully factual poster with a couple of pictures for places of note and facts and debunked myths. He did include the myth about the bad grain, saying thay while it was possible a few people might have ingested such grain, there was no evidence that the polluted grain and the trials were in any way connected. At most, the mold might have furthered preexisting paranoia in a tiny group. Each fact he boarded in a slightly different way, maintaining the same grim color scheme so it wouldn't look busy and using the borders to help keep it from looking like a massive block of text.

Xander showed his poster to Dark later. His was basically a block of text on a large piece of grey paper. Everything was very neat, and he'd provided spacing between points and facts, but there was a picture, a color, or a border in sight. Except for one tiny piece of glitter in the corner that had decided to hitch a ride.

Daizi praised the information Alec decided to include. Admittedly, even with his descriptions of what was on the poster, she couldn't really understand how it looked, but it sounded like a really well made one and she was proud of the work he had put into it.

When Xander showed Dark his, he first praised the information Xander included before asking if he wanted constructive criticism or if he just wanted to show it off. If Xander agreed to criticism, he would suggest subheadings might make it easier to read, but otherwise he said nothing more. Regardless, he stayed silent about the single speck of glitter. It deserved to be there.

Alec was pleased Daizi approved of the information, completely understanding that she couldn't really understand his description of how it looked. He was primarily interested in her factual seal of approval. He then later showed Dark to make sure that it was at least readable. Mostly, he was incredibly proud of himself that he'd managed to put it together on his own and got it right!

Xander accepted the criticism but was then lost about how to make it more readable. Different font? Color? size? He mumbled and grumbled for a bit before getting around to asking Dark what he suggested to make it easier.
