How Green Becomes Wood

"If she is coming, I hope she's in some costume, or at least tries to make me believe she is," Daizi teased, "I could tell you, but why spoil the surprise?"

"I will let Daizi know in advance so she does not unintentionally put him on the spot," Dark told him, peering intently out the window like a little kid trying to spot their parents in the crowd of their school play before rise.

"Aw, alright," Alec said, making a face and then grinning. He went to try to snag a piece of candy.

"Looks like some kids are hitting Lex's place," Xander remarked in amusement, trying to peer around his father. "I guess she's handing out candy. I wonder if she dressed up? What do you want to bet Toby dressed up as some kind of skateboarder?"

"The only skateboarder I know is Tony Hawk, and I only know his name. And that Cooger used to play his video game." Dark replied, watching in delight as the kids balked at this house. It was too early for the big kids because it was still light out, so rather than boasts and dares, it was just parents carefully convincing their kids it wasn't that scary.

When they finally did knock, he waited just long enough to answer the door so it wouldn't look like he had been waiting for them even though that was absolutely what he was doing. Because these were the little kids, he reigned in his delight at being scary so their parents didn't hate him for making their four year old cry but he definitely didn't greet them in his usual manner. Then, after hearing that magical phrase, he gave them candy of a better quality than they were likely to get all night, although these children were too young to appreciate it.
