How Green Becomes Wood

"Good evening," Dark told her. Daizi squeezed her arm once and then let go before the two of them went off again.

A little while later, Milo came up confused to the twins, "Have you seen your parents? They're so tall and extravagant, I don't know how they disappeared."

"I don't know," Alec said, looking around. "I thought I saw them a minute ago. Want me to go find them?"

"I'm sure they'll show up sooner or later," Xander said, keeping Alec with him. He didn't know for certain, but if they had snuck off alone, it was to be undisturbed, and he did not want to curse anyone with finding them.

Lex had struck up a conversation with Spencer and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying herself after wearing out her feet. She'd snagged a chair and was sitting down finally.

Tristan had attempted to tell Dark and Daizi that he was leaving, but they had disappeared before he could. He guessed they wouldn't be offended if he vanished without saying goodbye, so he had told the twins goodbye and to pass on his well-wishes to Dark and Daizi for him before making his way out.

Spencer was glad to talk a bit with Lex and was amazing at pretending like she hadn't heard gossip about the extended courtship drama. Mittz joined them and spoke to Lex as though she had always been part of the group.

Eventually Dark and Daizi re-emerged, completely innocent of all wrong doing. They stayed until the party was over, due to a sense of obligation and the joy of the event respectively. As with their first wedding, people continued enjoying themselves until it was nearing the time the venue wanted them out, but gradually their guests dispersed.

Lex headed out, assuring Cooger she'd call him later.

The twins helped clean things up a little and saw their parents off and safe after everyone else had left. Then they, too, headed home, making sure, first, that Milo had a ride. Xander told Milo to be sure to keep them updated on the pictures, and then it was time to collapse for a while!

Milo's grandparents came to pick him up, because it was far too late for them to be comfortable letting them get home any other way. He promised Xander and Alec he'd keep them updated and figured he'd have them fairly soon---he was being paid, after all.

When Dark and Daizi left, they had some confusion about how to fit all of Daizi's dress inside, but once it all was nicely packed in, Dark began to drive them to the hotel he had booked for them.

"So, where are we going? You still haven't said."

"And I still am not."

Once home, the twins looked around the house and took a deep breath, glad to be home again, no matter how much fun they'd had. Some teens might have taken the opportunity to do something outrageous. These two took turns showering, cleaned up anything that needed cleaning, and collapsed into bed. They were quite happy to take tomorrow off and not go anywhere for a long while.

Since Ivy couldn't be left home alone and they didn't want her to have the stress of waking up somewhere unfamiliar, Amty Zeinab stayed there until the twins came home before taking a brief but late cab back to her lodging. She had been given permission to sleep in Dark and Daizi's bed, but ultimately decided against it.

The following morning, Dark woke up groggily to a bit of light coming from an unfamiliar window, tangled up with Daizi, who was still asleep. Briefly, guiltily, he thought about how lucky it was a misplaced beam of light never woke her up. Then he shifted, enjoying the sight of her.

"stop that," Daizi grumbled.

"Stop what?"

"Moving around. And making man noises."

"I do not make man noises."

"Yes you do."

After a slow start and a needed breakfast, they finally drove home, ultimately glad to be going back but a little bit wishing they had a bit more time away from their real lives.

The twins got up early the next morning, unusual for a Sunday, and set about taking care of all the chores that would need to be done. Alec took the baby monitor with him in his pocket, listening closely for Ivy as they worked. They wanted everything looked after properly for their parents.

Ivy woke up at her usual time, which of course was to say far earlier than her father liked. Luckily for him, he was still at a hotel while her brothers took care of her.

She was definitely confused when it wasn't either of her parents who got her that morning, and although she ate, she seemed restless and a bit fussy that morning as she crawled around as though looking for something.

Dark and Daizi made it home just before noon, choosing to leave their bags in the car for the time being because they guessed Enkidu, Ivy, and potentially Alec would swarm them the second they stepped inside.

Alec tried not to fuss over Ivy too much and let her do what she needed to do while also trying to be as calm and normal as possible. Nothing was wrong, and things would be fine.

Xander keep an eye on them both from a distance, and when the car drove up, he was the first to spot it. "They're home!"

Alec gave a happy squeal and scooped Ivy up to present her to her parents first. Xander reassured Enkidu that he could be next.

When Ivy saw her parents, too many big emotions ran through her tiny body and she burst into tears, reaching out for her parents.

"Oh, habibti, Hummingbird," Daizi murmured, taking Ivy into her arms, "It's okay, my darling girl, Mama and Baba are home, yes we are."

Dark turned to Ivy, rubbing her back, "Oh, tifla, why do you cry?" He looked at his sons, "Was she okay for you?"

"I'm glad she was good for you," Daizi told them, rocking Ivy who was gradually ceasing her cries.

"Did you still manage to get a good night's sleep?" Dark asked, crouching down to pet Enkidu, "I am sure she gave you an early start. I keep trying to talk to her about that."

It wasn't too bad," Xander replied as Alec bounced on his heels, waiting impatiently for his turn. "It was just one night and half a day. She slept good, wasn't too fussy this morning, just weirded out is all."

Daizi squeezed Ivy one last time, gave her a kiss, handed her to Dark, and then reached out her arms to Alec, "I can imagine, she isn't used to us being away from home."

Turning her around to look at him, Dark gently dried her face with his thumb, sighing softly at the look on her face, "Have you not yet learned? Baba will always come back to you, my darling." The night before, he hadn't found it as difficult as Daizi to say goodbye to her, but the way she began to cry when she saw them again trampled his heart, just a little bit.

Alec happily hugged his mother, savoring the sense of safety and familiarity she brought with her and breathing in deep of her scent. "I'm glad you went and had time together, just the two of you."

"It won't be so bad once she gets used to it," Xander assured Dark. "You'll prove yourself to her."

"I'm glad too." Daizi replied, stroking his hair, "I'm glad to be home, but it was really nice to have time to ourselves."

"I know. She cries less than she used to when we leave. But that was a long time for us to be gone." Dark said, leaning his face against Ivy's palm as she dug her fingers into his beard.

"You should do that again! But not too soon." Alec gave her an extra squeeze before stepping back. "You should come in and relax. We can go grab your bags for you."

"We can, can we?" Xander grumbled but moved to follow his brother.

"I am sure we will," Daizi replied, trying not to get the rest of them to think too deeply into that statement, "Thank you for offering to get our bags for us, I'm much more tired than I thought I'd be. Although I'm not sure how much I'll end up relaxing with your sister hurrying around."

"I do not think she is quite ready to be set down yet, so that will help," Dark said, leading his wife towards the living room so they could sit.

The twins went out to the car and brought in their bags, taking them upto their room. Once they had everything inside, Xander asked if they'd had lunch yet or if they were hungry at all. He was happy to look after them for a bit and let them enjoy being home. They were both looking forward to being home and being quiet for a while.
