How Green Becomes Wood

Ivy stuck her tongue back out at him and laughed, crawling up onto and over him, having the absolute time of her life.

Exhaling softly, Daizi shook her hair out. Really, she just needed to let some of that initial fear out. It was the first time something Alec did innocently actually upset her to that degree and he didn't seem to understand why she felt it was serious.

Just then, Dark came inside and he stopped in his tracks, "What happened here?"

"Argh! Baby attack!" Alec laughed, lightly tickling Ivy as she crawled over him but letting her go. "No! Get back here, you!"

"I dunno. Stuff," Xander said bluntly, walking away. "A lot of annoying stuff."

Ivy laughed as she crawled over him. She was little, but she was getting heavy and had not quite yet learned to be gentle. As a result, as she crawled over Alec, she was a 24 pound ball of uncareful knees and elbows.

Dark first looked at the stressed look on Daizi's face, then at the annoyance on Xander's as he walked away, and finally at Alec being smothered by Ivy. Crossing the room in a few large steps, he made it to his wife and said, "Be careful, Alec, she is very small but she leaves bruises." The tattoos on his thighs had taken on new colours from her tiny feet when he bounced her in his lap.

Dark gently touched Daizi's wife and murmured something private to her and she murmured something back. He nodded to her and then carefully and slowly guided her into the the maze Alec had constructed and then helped her to sit. Sitting near her, he checked the state of her bruise while she said, "You can imagine what it was like when I was getting all those pointy knees and elbows but coming from the inside. She felt about as big as she is now, I was shocked when she was so tiny."

"It wasn't awful all of the time, but near the end, I'm pretty certain she was leaving bruises." Daizi said, lightly touching her middle remembering how it felt.

Dark smiled softly and leaned forward to kiss Daizi's cheek, "Your bruise is not bad, I think it will be better in a few days, but I will get you an ice pack so it is not sore tomorrow."

Ivy peered down the side of the ottoman at her brother, trying to figure out how she could go down that way too. The distance to her looked much, much larger.

"From when I walked directly into the furniture because I didn't know it was there." Daizi answered.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know you'd hit yourself that hard," Alec apologized. "I was only gone for a minute and didn't think you'd be coming in before I came back." He held his hands out to Ivy. "Come on, Ivy! I'll catch you!"

"It's okay," Daizi sighed, leaning her cheek against Dark's palm as he caressed her face before going to the kitchen to get the ice pack, "I stubbed my toe and when I tripped I fell into the hard part of the couch. I guess that's the price you pay for gothic furniture."

Ivy still hesitated, gurgling uncertainly and looking down, but with Alec holding out his arms to her, she dared to crawl closer to him.

Ivy squealed, loving how it felt to "fly." Dark, meanwhile, came back around, handed Daizi the ice pack, and then got on the floor next to Alec, looking up at his daughter, "She likes when you lower her down and raise her up again."

Dark took Ivy and then lay down on his back, lifting Ivy up in the air and lowering her back down to his chest before lifting her again making playful sounds to her. When he lifted her up again, rather than just taking her up and down, he moved her back and forth. It was true, she was getting heavier, but since he worked so much on strength, this was still quite easy for him.

"Playing with Ivy is a workout," Daizi said, still staying where Dark had led her too.

"She likes it," He said, lowering Ivy down and blowing raspberries on her tummy before lifting her again, "But she is not difficult to lift, so it does not feel like much of a work out."
