How Green Becomes Wood

"He refused to tell me what it was for." Dark replied. Like the twins, he doubted this was a job, but he wasn't sure what exactly it was Cooger was taking his twins to, but Cooger was certainly trustworthy so he wasn't too concerned.

About an hour later, Cooger arrived and after spending just a bit of time catching up with Dark, Daizi, and Ivy--of course, he had to praise her for her walking and tried to convince her to do it again for him--he went over to the twins, "Alright you two, are y'all ready to get to work?"

"Good good," Cooger replied, driving the long road towards the Christmas tree farm, "I bet it's damn good to be back on break. Especially since unlike last year, you'll actually be getting good sleep.'

"Yes!" Alec crowed. He pushed Xander over a bit, which pushed Xander tighter up against the door. "It's been really awesome. I love break! We've been barely on it, and- Stop elbowing me!"

"Stop shoving me into the door," Xander complained. "You have a whole seat!"

"It's the middle seat. The middle seat is like half the size of a regular seat!"

[Because I'm not used to work trucks having a backseat. :emoji_laughing:]

"Because I thought there'd be room, but someone is taking up way too much room," Alec sniffed.

"You aren't exactly a bag of bones, either," Xander grumbled.

Throughout the ride, Cooger kept pretending like he was actually taking them to a job but, sure enough, soon enough they turned down a backroad that seemed awfully like the road they went down a year ago.

Xander nodded solemnly. "This looks like it'll be a good job."

"Indeed," Alec agreed, suppressing a smile. "I'll help with sales by aiding people in envisioning the tree set up in their living room!"

"And I'll help them load it up," Xander confirmed.

"I got no idea what y'all are talking about," Cooger chuckled and it wasn't until they pulled into the parking lot that he said, "Alright, are we ready to get your Christmas tree? We gotta find one that sings."

The twins practically fell out of the truck. Xander tried to play it off cool, but his eyes were gleaming brightly, and he walked just a little faster and with just a little more bounce in his step than usual. Alec made no effort to hide his excitement as he rushed around keeping up a running commentary about every tree in sight, including ones that were clearly not Christmas trees.

Cooger chuckled, locking the truck door behind them, "This year your folks will have to help set it up. Couldn't manage to schedule it on a day they were out all day. But that's fine, your dad deserves to do the heavy lifting."

"It'll be good for him. I think he'll enjoy it," Xander said. He paused to study a tree critically.

"That one has a bald spot on this side!" Alec called when he saw the tree Xander was looking at.

Xander walked around. "Oh, right, it does. Nevermind."

"Super tall! Like, touch the ceiling tall!" Alec cried, giving a little jump as he flung his arms out to show how big.

"Nah, not that tall," Xander said, shaking his head. "We need to put something on top, don't we?"

"Oh, good point, we don't want to crowd the tree topper," Alec agreed thoughtfully. "Alright, tall enough to be tall, but still have room at the top. Although, some year, it would be awesome if we could get a free so tall that the top curled all the way over, and then we tied the topper on upside down!"
