How Green Becomes Wood

"I remember," Alec assured him, feeling a little irked by Dark's reminder. He knew it was from a good place and it was something he likely needed, but this was a special time in a special place! And he hadn't brought anything home in ages. Couldn't he be trusted to look around a gift shop? Maybe get one thing? He forgot about his irritation almost as soon as he entered, though. The colors were so somber and striking!

Xander wandered after him, mostly to keep an eye on him. He doubted he'd find anything he wanted, but he didn't hate browsing.

Dark explained to Daizi what merchandise was for sale, somewhat considering picking up a sweatshirt for himself. Although not his usual fare, he did wear them whenever he was ill, deep cleaning, or out for a run on cold mornings, so it wouldn't be a horrible investment.

As he looked, he murmured a quiet, somewhat disinterested thank you to a group of young adults who complimented him on his 'costume.'

Xander smirked and snickered at the compliment Dark got, but he stayed well out of Dark's reach as he did so.

"Mama!" Alec gasped from down the row. "I found a fan, and it is just you!" He brought her the large, Spanish-style black fan with large red roses and grey and bronze leaves and stems. It had "Hadestown" on the corner, but down the middle, nice and bold, were the printed words, "Spring will come again."

Dark turned and glared down at Xander, which did not help him beat the Hades allegations.

Daizi took the fan from Alec and turned it over in her hands, "That is a very lovely fan. In Egypt we all carry one with us because it gets so hot."

Dark's glare just made Xander smirk more, and the teen quickly moved to another part of the small merch stall to keep away from Dark and any repercussions.

Alec described the fan to Daizi in great detail. "If you wanted to do a Persephone look, this would be perfect! But it also goes with a lot of your other outfits, so you could use it whenever, too."

"I probably wouldn't use it for Halloween," Daizi replied, "I mean, if I dress as this Persephone, Dark would need to dress as this Hades, and then he wouldn't be in a costume at all!"

"Oh, that's a good point," Alec agreed. "I'll put it back, but if you decide you want it, I can find it for you!" He happily skipped off to return the fan and looked around. He took his time looking, and he finally gathered his favorite options in one spot. He chose not to go for a shirt because he had more than enough clothing right now, and while the tote was very tempting, Becca had gotten him and Xander both matching and monogrammed totes for Christmas, plus he had others. So, he tried to find something that wouldn't get lost among the other things he owned. He found a pin set, a decal set, a mug, a magnet, and a singular pin. What he wanted most was the vinyl of the Broadway cast, but that was laughably out of his price range. And he didn't have a record player. Finally, after staring and hemming and hawing for the longest time, he put almost everything back and brought his final two choices to Dark.

"I really like both of these," he said, showing Dark the "Wait for Me" pin set with three pins and the decal set with four different decals. "I'm having trouble picking between them."

Xander wandered over with a self-satisfied look and waited his turn to show Dark what he'd found. He hadn't intended to get anything, although a couple of the shirts did appeal to his aesthetic enough to make him pause, but then he'd found It.

Dark hummed slightly, looking over what Alec was considering, "Well. I suppose the question is what would you use the decals on?" Then he turned to Xander, "Did you find something you like?"

"I was thinking of using them like stickers. One for my journal, and the others I could find a place for," Alec told him.

Xander held out a small, black, stainless steel hip flask with the words, "To the world we dream about and the one we live in now," engraved on it. "I think I'll get this."

"Wear them on different outfits," Alec said promptly. "Mix and match and all of that, or I can put them on my bags and backpack. Ooo, I could maybe put a decal on my backpack, too."

"Drink out of it," Xander said. "Obviously. Don't you get tired of carrying on two conversations at the same time?"

Dark nodded, "It seems you have more immediate plans for the pins, so if you are only comfortable with one, I would go with those, but the decals are small so I think it would be acceptable to get both." Then he turned to Xander, "It is always exhausting but c'est la vie. I believe flasks are typically for alcohol, which is why I was curious as to your plans."

"Then I'm going to get both!" Alec cheered and went to tell his mother about what he'd gotten.

"Just because it's meant for one thing doesn't mean it can't be used for something else," Xander pointed out. "Not to mention, it'll turn a lot of heads!"

"If I was the vodka sneaking type, I'd have been doing it long before now," Xander pointed out. He happily went to buy his new flask. He wasn't sure what he was going to put in it besides water, but the flask itself made him smile. That was enough for him.

"I suppose that is true," Dark replied, meeting up with Daizi who decided to get the necklace with the flower---knowing it's significance because Dark had whispered to her about it both the magic trick happened---and Dark decided to get the sweatshirt after all.

All their purchases paid for, Dark asked, "Where would you like to eat?" As they exited the theatre.

"Mexican!" Alec said cheerfully. "It's the closest I can think of to match what we just watched. The spanish rice and all that. I don't know what they eat in New Orleans besides gumbo, and I don't think we have gumbo around here."

"Greek, then. I could go for Greek," Alec agreed.

"Sure, Greek food sounds good," Xander said agreeably. He spotted the stage door off to the side and a couple of people in costume. There were several over there, and a few he thought he might recognize as being the cast out of costume as well as a few non-cast people. "Hey, let's go this way."
