How Green Becomes Wood

Dark took his phone out to find directions to his favourite Greek place because he was fairly certain it was in walking distance so he just turned and walked along where Xander led with Daizi on his arm.

As they neared, the cast were taking pictures and signing autographs with various audience members.

"Oh, wow, it's the cast!" Alec grinned.

Xander caught Alec's eye and nodded toward Dark.

Alec grinned, following Xander's logic and walked ahead of them to meet the cast.

Xander stayed close behind, making certain Dark and Daizi were going in the right direction. Then they stood waiting patiently in line, hoping Dark wouldn't think too much about where they were. Alec tried to catch the eye of a cast member, wishing he had something to sign for real.

When they were in line, the actor who played Orpheus quickly broke away, all big smiles. He looked sweaty and tired but glad to be meeting everyone. Dark and Daizi were walking a bit more slowly so he didn't notice them.

"Hey there!" The actor said, "Did you enjoy the show?"

Alec's eyes widened. "Wow! The Orpheus! Hello, sir!" he gasped in delight.

"Don't mind him. My brother is easily impressed," Xander told him. "It was okay."

Alec elbowed him. "Don't mind him. My brother enjoys being unimpressed. I loved it! So much! Only..." He bit his lip. "I didn't know how the story ended," he admitted, his voice quivering a little.

The poor actor didn't know what to respond to first. "Well I'm... glad you found it passable? And, yeah, I mean... It's like they say, it's a tragedy. And we finish each show singing about how we'll sing it again in case it turned out this time, and even though I know exactly how it goes, I still have that hope a little bit that maybe, maybe, they'll make it."

"But they won't because," Xander started to say.

"Oh, hush," Alec said irritably. "It was a beautiful story, and I want to hope that this time they'll make it!"

Xander hesitated. Then he shrugged. "Alright. Maybe this time they'll make it. Maybe Orpheus will sing a song that'll fix things for good. By the way, our parents, especially our mother, are fans of the story. Funny thing, though, our father is not wearing a costume."

Alec grinned and nodded. "We swear to you, he dressed nice. He didn't dress in costume."

"Oh?" Orpheus asked, confused, but then he looked up and his eyes went wide as Dark and Daizi approached. Then, after a moment, he laughed, extending a hand for a handshake, "I appreciate your son's warning, because you would've scared the hell out of me."

Dark shook his head stiffly, "You performed wonderfully, we enjoyed it very much."

Alec nodded vigorously. "You were amazing! All of you, but I loved, loved, loved your song of Wait for Me. It was... How do you do that?" He shook his head. "Anyway, it was amazing, but I think you can see why we were a bit distracted every time Mr. Hades came on stage."

"Good voice," Xander agreed, meaning Orpheus'. I liked that riot song near the middle-end-ish.

"How do I do what?" Orpheus asked, confused, and then looked back to Xander, "If it's one of my songs, it was probably If It's True. I really like that one too."

One of the members of the chorus came around, having spotted Dark, and then did a double take. Coming up besides Orpheus he said, "J, are you seeing this?"

"Yeah," Orpheus replied, "I know."

"Dude, we gotta get Matthew, is he still here?"

"Yeah, he should be backstage." The ensemble member looked at them, "You all stay here, okay?"

"Yes, sir!" Alec chirped. He glanced at Dark. "The celebrity meets a celebrity!"

After a moment, Xander grudgingly admitted, "The dancing was the coolest. All of it. And the come home with me bit. Hilarious."

"So beautiful! I want to sing like Orpheus someday, but I don't know how to put my soul into words like that," Alec sighed.

"Honestly, I think Orpheus just inhabits you," The actor said with a shrug, "Plus all the vocal lessons I guess."

The cast member came out with the Hades actor, who was rebuttoning his vest because it was clear he had just begun to change when he had been interrupted and told to put that damn thing back on and come out and look. At the sight of Dark, this man's eyes just about bulged out of his head and he walked up. He, in his snakeskin cowboy boots (the only costume piece which was unlike Dark) still only stood at about six feet tall, so he looked upwards and then said, "You scared the absolute shit out of me. Hell, you look more like me than me."

Alec giggled, and Xander said, "Imagine sitting in the audience watching yourself."

"Mr. Hades, sir, please meet the real Persephone," Alec said, gesturing to his mother. "This Mr. Hades guards her perhaps even better than you guard yours."

Hades' actor shook his head, "I never thought I'd be finding myself wanting to ask an audience member for a picture and not the other way around. But I hope you don't guard your wife the way Hades did, it caused a lot of trouble."

"No, believe me," Daizi said brightly, holding her cane, "We don't have those sorts of troubles. And I have to say, knowing you apparently look like my husband made the musical much more accessible for me."

The actor looked at her for a few moments, trying to figure out what he was allowed to say to that, and ultimately landed on, "You know, I'll bet. Although I'll be honest and tell you the wig I wear has grey streaks in it which your husband doesn't have, at least not yet. I'm Matthew, by the way."

"I'm Daizi," She smiled and Dark introduced himself as Ghalib.

"You look fabulous, sir! Really," Alec assured him. "May I take the pictures of you and our father? One with our phone, one with yours?"

"Actually, I think their love song is closer to Orpheus and Your... rid... see..." Xander tried but gave up. "The main lovers."

Alec stared at him. "I thought you weren't paying attention!"

"Eurydice," practically everyone corrected. Hades took his phone from his pocket, "Would you mind taking a picture with me, Sir?"

Although Dark preferred to not take pictures, he understood the humor in it, so he agreed to take the picture. In the first one, Hades was in character and in the second he pointed at Dark with a big shocked grin on his face.

"Which song between Orpheus and Eurydice?" Orpheus asked, "The one on Act 1 or Act 2?"

"All of it," Xander told Orpheus as he supervised Alec taking the pictures. "From the first to the last. Mama wasn't from the streets or anything, but she used to get in scraps at school, and she bonded with Ba and this other scrapper dude, and she and Ba totally hit it off. Then, later, Ba totally let her go only to decide it was a stupid-a** decision and went to get her. Literally stole her from her wedding to another guy. The difference being Ba pulled it off, unlike Orpheus."

Daizi grinned at Xander telling these strangers their story but just said, "In defense of Orpheus, my fiance was much less intimidating than the King of the Underworld."

"It sounds like quite the story," Orpheus grinned, "There should be a musical about you both. I already know who they can cast as you!"

"It'd be a pretty good story," Xander agreed. "Who'd be cast as her?"

Alec showed Dark and Matthew the pictures he'd taken on their phones, getting their approval before handing Matthew his phone back. "Great pictures! My friends aren't going to believe it."

"That we'd have to audition for," Orpheus replied easily.

Dark nodded in his way at the picture, satisfied enough. It was rather amusing. Matthew grinned and looked up at Dark, "Mind if I share that on my socials?" After a few moments of hesitancy, Dark agreed, since it was unlikely to matter and it wasn't like he had his own accounts to tag.

Xander looked at him suspiciously. "And who gets cast as me?"

"Very cool, Ba," Alec told him. "You continue to be a legend!" He looked at Matthew shyly. "No offense, sir. You were phenomenal! The dance between yourself and Persephone was truly a thing of love and beauty."
