How Green Becomes Wood

Cooger looked at her for a moment but didn't say anything. Then he said, "See you soon." Before going to his truck, hoping he had done the right thing.

Oh really? That's awesome! Sloan replied, Where?

Working for this guy who works as a handyman. He runs his own business. He agreed to take me on as an apprentice for now. I almost blue it. My mom always told me to sell myself to a potential employer, so I was selling myself like a lady on a corner, but he said I was argumentative? Guess I need people classes for hiring things.

I'd say just be honest and willing to apologize, I guess? But like if you say something wrong and he doesn't say so, that's on him for not communicating. That's true for everyone in life.

Yeah, you're right. I just hope I don't mess up. I hate working at the hardware store. The stockboy keeps trying to hit on me, and the customers are weird. But I get a trial period to prove myself!

I mean there ARE other options than the hardware store girlie

Meanwhile, Dark and Daizi had prepared and set out appetizers. They were going to still have a nice, proper dinner and dessert, but they thought it made the day feel a bit fancier leading up to the advent of the new year. Daizi was excited, Dark was trying to not be morose.

Yeah? Anything I haven't tried yet?

"This looks really good! This is fabulous!" Alec grinned, trying to help out. "This is so fancy."

"Way fancier than the last couple of years. Especially our first New Years together," Xander smirked.

I mean all I know is I'VE never worked at a hardware store lmaoooo

"Our first New Year's we were snowed in," Daizi said, half lounging on the couch, "Our second New Year's we had a baby who, since she was born early, wasn't even technically two months old yet. This is the first one we can actually celebrate properly."

Rumy giggled at that response. I'm hoping next year to land a job working on a farm or something in the summer. Anyway, happy New Year! See you next year!

"True, and what a fabulous feast this is turning out to be," Alec smiled. "You do put on amazing parties. Even parties just for family."

See you next year!

"I enjoy hosting," Dark said, bouncing Ivy, "it is the party part I dislike. If I could throw a party without having any guests, I would be delighted."

Daizi laughed, "I think that means you missed your calling as a party planner, Goose."

"Ivy's birthday wasn't Gothic," Daizi pointed out.

"The problem with being a party planner I would need to deal with clients and listen to their ideas." Dark pointed out.

"When Ivy starts having opinions, you'll be in that same situation," Daizi retorted.

"What if we decide we want parties?" Alec asked.

Xander frowned. "What would we have parties for?"

"I have no idea, but we could have them for birthdays and... graduations, and... things," Alec said, trying to think.

"We have all the appetizers out," Daizi said, gesturing in the vague direction of where everything was laid out, "You can eat whenever you like habibi."

"I can help you plan your birthdays, it is only a month away." Dark promised.

Xander happily helped himself, sitting down at the table to enjoy himself. "What kind of plans would we need? Can't say I'm too interested."

"Then I guess I get the full say! How about rainbows and glitter and puppies and kittens and unicorns?" Alec suggested with a grin as he came to join his brother.

Xander stared at him. "I am suddenly highly invested."
