Mr. Sutton was not a particularly tall man, but he could not be classified as short, either. He was that awkward size that was technically average but strangely looked short. He was thin, reasonably muscled in a way that did not look too showy, and had not a brown hair out of place. He was reasonably well-dressed, too, in nice loafers, a white shirt, and dark pants. He could have passed as a business man or an office worker for nearly any company. He noticed Dark first while he was standing near the bananas. He selected the smallest bunch and then went to his wife and nudged her elbow lightly before nodding to Dark.
Mrs. Sutton was almost exactly the same height as her husband. Her bobbed hair had a slight poof to it in a 50s style that was not too over the top and gave her a tiny bit more height than her sensible heels. Her calf-length skirt, blue blouse, and white sweater leaned a bit more to the 50s vibe, and when she looked up, her eyes narrowed for a moment, calculating as she considered. Then she gave her husband a nod and turned the cart.
Mr. Sutton strolled up to Dark. "Excuse me, but did you use to teach history at the high school?" he asked politely with a professional smile.
