How Green Becomes Wood

Tristan was a bit red in the face but bearing himself rather well for a grown man who'd just sung a song related to a movie about dancing to save yourself. Or something like that. He had only dim memories and couldn't be certain what the actual plot was other than some surprisingly decent music and a lot of glitter and shine. "Then I look forward to the day you learn, as you are currently standing head, shoulders, and I think knees higher than the rest of us as far as singing goes."

"Okay, okay," Daizi laughed while Dark queued up the song, "It's better when I can play the harp with it though."

When she stood, Ivy started to fuss, not wanting to be set down, so after a few moments Daizi held her close, kissed her cheek, and said, "Does Ivy-Qadira want to sing with Mama? We can sing together, yalla, habibti." She went up to the stage, and while holding a baby on her hip, performed a beautiful rendition of Sally's Song.

"And you continue to stand above all the rest," Tristan told Daizi, applauding politely.

"Absolutely, Mama!" Alec told her, grinning and clapping.

"I think Ivy gave a little something to that performance," Xander remarked.

Alec glanced at Xander. "We should do a duet!"

"How about that one song from Beauty and the Beast?" Alec suggested with a grin.

"No," Xander shot it down.

"If I didn't have you?"

Xander considered. "Yeah, I'd do that."

Tristan bowed slightly from his chair even though Daizi could not see him. "My lady, it would be an honor to sing a duet with you, if you would be willing to accept me."

Daizi grinned and turned to her husband, gingerly passing their baby to him, "He called me his lady."

"I heard," Dark said, adjusting how he sat so Ivy could really get comfortable in his lap.

"He's going to sing a duet with me," She teased.

"As long as it is only a duet, I will not have to duel him."

Tristen suppressed a smile, recognizing their teasing but also very much believing Dark would, indeed, duel him if he ever pressed his luck. Not that he wanted to. "What would you like to sing? I am willing to do whatever you choose." A dangerous proposition, but a risk he was willing to take.

Tristan scanned through the duet section, reading off the ones he felt were potential. "I've got you babe, Don't go breaking my heart, Summer nights - ah, maybe not that one - Shut up and dance, A whole new world, I've had the time of my life..."

It took Tristan a moment, but he did find the song. "Here it is! Yes, they do have it. Shall we sing that? I have never sung a duet, so I hope you will be tolerant of my mistakes."

"I think it's a fun song, and you don't have to worry about making mistakes, I'm sure I'll stumble over the words a time or two. It's the problem with not being able to read the screen." Daizi assured him, going to get the microphones.

"Thank you," Tristan told her. He took his mic, very thankful he could read the screen, and sang along with Daizi, laughing when one or both of them messed up their lines.

It's friendship, friendship
Just a perfect blendship
When other friendships have been forgot
Ours will still be hot
Lahdle-ahdle-ahdle, dig-dig-dig

It was the Lahdle-ahdle-ahdle bits in the song Daizi messed up most frequently on, since how they ended changed with each verse. But it was a very fun song to sing, especially with all the jokes about doing very little to help in serious situations.

She was a particular fan of the lyric, If they ever make a cannibal stew of you, invite me too! It's friendship!

Tristan performed terribly with the song, and by the end, he was laughing so much he could barely sing, but he did his best! He ended with a flourish and laughed. "Thank you, maiden of song, for the pleasure of singing with you!" he said, taking her hand briefly.

"Wow, Mama, where did that song come from?" Alec laughed. "That song is insane!"
