How Green Becomes Wood

"Lemme know if you figure it out," Xander said.

Alec sat next to Daizi, watching the kitten. It was his! It was really his! He could not believe that it was here, existing, really and truly his! He's wanted one so badly, and now she was here!

Alec smiled, looking at his kitten again. "I just can't believe she's here. She's really here! She's not just a picture on the ceiling or a dream for the future. I can reach out and touch her. I know there's going to be a lot of change, a lot of responsibility, but I'm just..." He sighed blissfully. "So happy!"

Cooger chuckled, recognizing those sorts of statements. Obviously, the relationship Dark and Daizi had with Ivy was much more intense, since they had waited for over a decade, experienced death along their road, and Ivy was a human made from their DNA. But the comments of how she was finally, really here and how he couldn't believe it... It amused him how similar the comments were. Admittedly, Dark and Daizi didn't personally find it that similar, but it wasn't a necessary argument to make.

Xander reached over and ruffled Alec's hair. "Good job waiting and chilling out."

"Thank you," Alec grinned, brushing his hair straight again. "I don't know if a birthday will ever be able to top this one."

"No, she'll love you," Daizi promised him, "I'm sure she just wanted to have a Mama for a bit. She'll learn soon enough you're who feeds her and snuggles with her at night, presuming she's the type to want to sleep in your human bed with you, and judging by this, I bet she will be."

"I really hope so, but I'll get her a very nice cat bed, too," Alec promised. "Maybe one of those climbing trees with a scratching post built in? That might work! Uncle Cooger, what does she like to scratch?"

"Well, she's been just a baby with me, so--" He caught himself just before saying just about anything, and instead answered, "She's still pretty malleable."

"If the cat tree is in the living room, I would like to request some say in its appearance," Dark said mildly, "but if it is in your room, whatever you would like it to be."

"I was thinking one in my bedroom, but if we put a second one in the living room, then she'll have something proper to scratch when she feels the urge instead of the furniture," Alec commented. "You should totally pick the style for it!"

"When we had our own cat years ago, we had a cat tree shaped like a coffin," Daizi recalled, "I wonder if we could find one like that again. Unless we still have it in storage somewhere? I don't recall if we sold it."
