How Green Becomes Wood

"Glad to hear it," Xander said, wandering off toward the stairs going down. "Mini was alright, so I suppose we could do this again."

"She's a very good girl," Alec agreed happily. "I'm glad you had such a nice evening."

'We'll be sure to not abuse your good will," Daizi promised, leaning against Dark the moment she felt him sit down beside her. "I hope it didn't through off your evening plans too terribly, but at least it's Friday. You have the whole weekend."

"Thank you," Dark told them sincerely. Admittedly, after the week he had had, it was really nice have a few hours where he wasn't responsible for anyone.

"We should get her ready for bed," Daizi said, feeling how Ivy's breathing had begun to slow, but watching her, Dark shook his head.

"We can give her a few more minutes," he said, "She'll be alright if we just hold her for a little while longer."

The twins went to their separate rooms to wind down and do their own hobbies before bed. Alec happily worked on his junk journal with Kiki snoozing on his lap. Xander listened to music while reading about the Przewalski's horse, also known as the "Tahki."

The next day, Tristan opened the shop, but he told Alec he didn't have to come in. It was only going to be for a few hours since he was still feeling low in energy, so he told Alec to enjoy a day off. Alec wasn't sure what to do with another day off and considered going in anyway, but he ended up spending his morning trying different collars on Kiki while the cat sat looking mostly confused. Xander tried to steal her to his shop to try out some smaller leather items on her, but Alec protested.

Randomly in the afternoon, Sloan sent sent a picture to the friend group chat, which wasn't all that unusual. Except the picture looked like an accidental Renaissance painting: one of the people in the background was on the phone, another was carrying a cup of water. One of Sloan's team members was sitting to her left, with her hand on Sloan's shoulder, and Claire was to her right, holding a towel to Sloan's face, partially obscurring her eye. Beneath the cloth, an amount of blood consistent with a facial injury was visible. In the center of all of it Sloan, who was taking the picture herself, gave the camera a thumbs up and attempted a grin despite tears in her eyes.

Along with the image she texted the words oops lmao.

Alec gasped out loud as he looked. WHat hpened?? how bad? How did you do that?

Xander looked at the picture and winced. "Ouch. That don't look good." He texted, Ditto. Need anything?

"Ba! Tragedy has struck Sloan!" Alec called.

"Possibly literally from the looks of things," Xander remarked.

Expecting follow-up at earliest convenience. Xander reached over and took Alec's phone as he was frantically trying to text. "Sloan just sent a none-to-pretty picture of herself," Xander said, handing Alec's phone to Dark.

"Hey!" Alec protested.

"She doesn't need a bunch of questions," Xander told him.

Alec hesitated and then nodded reluctantly. "Fine. You're right."

Dark looked at the picture for a few moments, "I do not know if I should be confused or impressed at her decision to take a photograph in a moment like that. Do you know what happened?"

"Be both," Xander said dryly. He looked at the picture on his own phone, his brow wrinkled with concern.

"No idea, but she said she's at the hospital now," Alec said worriedly. He bit his thumb. "I wonder if we can go see her when she's home? But that might stress her out. We'd better stay away."

"Pudding. We can drop off pudding," Xander said stoutly.

"She a gymnast. The only athletes to shrug off injuries more than them are footballers with concussions," Xander said bluntly.

"Unfortuneately, he has a point," Alec sighed.

Their phones chimed with another text, and since Dark had Alec's phone, he likely could have read Peter's response. Bloody hell! What happened? Did you try to headbutt the parallel bars? I know they're your favorite, but you aren't supposed to be that close, mate.

Thinking about it for a few moments, Dark nodded and said, "I cannot argue with that. But she is seeking medical treatment, and Sloan is not stupid."

In the waiting room of the ER, still applying pressure to her forehead, Sloan wasn't really checking messages at the moment, but she had given her phone to Claire, who was handling all of that for her until Blair arrived. Seeing that text, she read it to Sloan who did get a bit of a chuckle and then dictated the reply, There's a video, I'm not sure on whose phone

"Nope, she's very smart. Stubborn, but smart," Xander agreed. "I'll bet she'll be fine."

Not sure I want to see that, Alec admitted.

At the same time, Peter texted, Share! I want to see what happened to you.

"And I am sure she knows if she needs anything, she only has to ask," Dark added.

I don't know where the video is Sloan had Claire say. After a few moments of thinking, Claire added, (this is Claire, on Sloan's phone, I'm with her at the er) I have it, she's not seen it yet. Long story short the bar like... broke? At a bad time

"Oh, sh**," Xander said and told Dark and Alec what Claire had said. "Can't think of anything much worse happening."

"Poor Sloan!" Alec fretted.

Peter texted something similar to what both twins said. Then he offered, Do you need anything at the er? Extra body to wait with you?

Sloan's mom is coming, Claire answered for her, and the coach is here. Also, after the beam broke, the spotter still caught her! So she didn't hit the ground! Beside her, Sloan tipped her head back, thinking this all wouldn't be so bad if the wait wasn't so long.
