How Green Becomes Wood

"It happens once in awhile," Daizi teased.

"It is still messier than I would have preferred," Dark said, looking over at the absolute frosting-covered disaster Ivy had managed to make of herself.

"I would prefer a perfectly clean dessert for her," Dark said, nodding to Ivy, who was looking curiously at the frosting on her hands, "but I cannot deny one of the only downsides of having a beard is how easy it is for messy foods to get stuck in it, so I am going to clean myself, and then clean her, and then... everything she manages to touch in the meanwhile."

With a little chuckle Daizi said, "I'll clean her, it'll save us all the trouble."

"Alright, I'll put them in that." Xander went to the kitchen and found a container that wouldn't hurt to lose. He was willing to bet the container would come back, but just in case it didn't, he wanted to make sure it's loss wouldn't be felt. Once he had them put away, he hung around the windows, keeping an eye on the Applebaum house. He went upstairs to the music room and played his guitar lightly while watching out the window.

Eventually, Blair's care pulled back into their driveway and she and Sloan got out, heading back inside. Although Sloan was fairly certain she could've driven herself home, she had to admit it was nice to not have to worry about it. She really just wanted to change into something comfortable and sleep, because it had been an exhausting day.

Xander saw them drive up, but he made himself wait five minutes. Then he went to get Alec, who by that point was introducing Kiki to a harness. The cat looked confused but accepting of this new weirdness. Alec eagerly put away the harness in order to go with Xander downstairs.

"Mama, Ba, Slo's home, so we're going to drop by," Xander called to his parents.

Alec put a bow on the cupcake container, Xander and Alec put on their coats, and they headed out across the street. Alec stepped forward and rang the doorbell while Xander stood back holding the cupcakes.

Alec smiled. "Hello, Mr. Applebaum. We heard what happened to Sloan, so we wanted to stop by and offer a couple of treats for her and out hopes that she'll get well soon. May we come in to see her? If she's accepting visitors. We understand if she just wants to be left alone."

"Oh, uh..." Isaiah glanced behind him, "I don't know. Let me go check, okay? You can wait inside, I guess. I should tell Blair you're here." He went inside, leaving the door open a crack so Alec and Xander could enter if they wanted to, and then, calling through the house said, "Hey babe? Those boys from across the street are here? They want to know if Sloan can see them?"

Mildly irritated by her husband yelling, Blair came in to see what on earth he was talking about, but she stopped when she saw the twins. Putting on a smile she said, "Oh, hello. I'm not sure if Sloan is seeing anyone right now."

The twins stayed outside, not sure if going inside was a good idea or not. It felt presumptuous. Seeing Blair's clearly fake smile, that seemed the right call.

"That's okay. I'm sure she needs a lot of rest," Alec said. He glanced at Xander, who held out the cupcakes. "These are for her. I'm sure she wouldn't mind sharing, but they were made with her comfort and healing in mind."

"She may already be napping," Blair said, "she said she was looking forward to it on the drive home."

"No, mom, it's okay," Sloan said, coming up behind her. Since her bedroom faced the street, she had seen the twins walk up, and then with her dad yelling for her mom, she put two and two together. Her face was definitely bruised, and she was in comfortable, loose-fit pajamas.

Alec tried not to stare, but it was hard.

Xander looked blatantly and let out a low whistle. "Dang. You are going to be feeling that later," he said.

"You look like Xander used to after a brawl," Alec said.

"You still look good," Alec assured her.

"Like a princess after catching a girl going after her man," Xander assured her.

Alec smacked his shoulder. "Don't you have something to give the nice princess?"

"Right. Here, nice princess, these are for you," Xander said, presenting the cupcakes to Sloan. "Get feeling great soon."
