How Green Becomes Wood

Xander nearly said, unless they are like your mom, but he bit his tongue just in time. "True. You definitely have a leg up in the dating department. You'll breeze right through the parental acceptance."

"No, i should go home. The longer I stay away, the more awkward it'll be. And like, I'm pissed at my mom, but I don't want her to panic." She shrugged, "I'll be alright. But thank you, seriously. This helped."

"No worries, Slo. I got your back. Unless you're doing flips, then you should probably get a real spotter for that. Or maybe a special British nanny." Xander pulled onto the road and started back toward home.

Xander stayed silent as they drove back. Part of him was worried about Sloan. Another part was mulling over her comment about helping Alec see that people accepted him as he was. Xander felt a tiny twinge of guilt. When they'd gone out together, he'd always resisted doing anything too "glittery," or wild, but maybe he'd resisted too much. Oh well. There was no point in regretting what was. He could try again. It was harder to find free time that lined up with just Alec as they also spent time with Ivy and their parents, and Alec often went to hang out with Emma, but they could manage something. He was sure of it. But what about the others?

When they arrived at their street, Xander pulled up in front of Sloan's house with the intent to swing around and park at his own once she was out. "Hey, can I ask a favor?"

Sloan was alright with the silence, feeling alright to be alone with her thoughts. Honestly she was tired, between the fight with her mom and still physically healing... It was nice to just sit peacefully in a warm car and watch the streetlamps go by.

When they parked, she looked over her shoulder at him, "Yeah, what's that?"

"Obviously not now, or even not soon, but do you think you could maybe reach out to Alec a little?" Xander asked. "About sparkly things or something. Just remind him about the rest of his friend group? I'm going to take your advice about trying to do something more him-centered, too. Thanks."

"Yeah, I can," Sloan replied, "I'm not a sparkle expert, but I can ask Claire. She likes that sort of thing. And I wear makeup and paint my nails or whatever, we can go get a manicure or something."
