How Green Becomes Wood

"The bedazzler is the most hilarious gift he could have gotten," Lex snickered. "I should steal one of Cooger's hats - not one of his beloveds, obviously - and get Alec to bedazzle it for me."

Lex gave Daizi a tiny nudge. "Keep an ear out for me, okay? Give me a whistle if you hear them coming." She got up and headed inside. "Alec! Can I borrow you for a moment?"

Alec looked highly confused at first, but as Lex explained what she wanted, his eyes lit up, and he agreed enthusiastically.

It took a few minutes, but soon Alec was nipping over to their car to stash away a couple of Lex's choices. Lex came and sat on the porch with Daizi. "Mission accomplished."

"Are you comfortable out here, Mama?" Alec asked.

"This is why I cause pandemonium and Dark doesn't," Daizi grinned at Lex, then to Alec she said, "I was going to head inside, I think. It's getting colder, but I had to keep an ear out for your scheme."

Alec helped her up and opened the door for her. He walked in front and did his best to shoo away any cats in the way so Daizi could have a clear path to the bedroom. "It looks nice and made up, Mama."

"I didn't know it was possible for Cooger to make his bed," Daizi lightly teased, lying Ivy down gently and putting pillows to either side of her to hopefully prevent her from immediately rolling off the bed, "Will you get the baby monitor from the diaper bag?"

"Thank you," Daizi said, leaning down to kiss Ivy on the forehead before heading back downstairs with Alec.

At that time, Dark and Cooger were walking back up the the cabin, and Dark was extremely pleased to have his giant burl with him.

"That's what you were so excited about?" Xander asked, coming out to meet them. "Looks like a big knot of wood."

"It was real cool watching them cut it down," Toby grinned. "You should have seen it."

"I've had my fill of woods for one day," Xander replied.

Lex eyed the burl speculatively. "I don't work with wood, but, you know, I can see the vision."

"Does it sparkle?" Alec asked.

"It's wood. Of course it doesn't sparkle," Xander stated.

Alec stuck his tongue out at him. "You wouldn't expect a geod to sparkle, either."

"You'll show off what you do with it when it's done?" Lex asked as Toby texted Alec the information for Dark.

"It will not glitter, but when it is polished up, it will shine," Dark replied, setting it down briefly while he opened the trunk, "When it is finished, I will be glad to show it off, but as of yet, I have no idea even what I will make. I will not be able to know until I have been able to look inside, but that will not be until it is dry."

"Would a commercial drying kiln help you out?" Lex offered.

"I told him about that already, Mom," Toby told her. "I texted Alec with the deets."

"Excellent. I'm glad you sent the deets," Lex said, amused by the word.

Toby made a face. "It sounds weird when you say it."
