How Green Becomes Wood

"That looks perfect, you did a great job," Dark praised, and then, bending to kiss Ivy's head said, "You did too, tifla. Now we have to wash your hands because you are so sticky now. Why are you always sticky?"

Ivy cooed up at him, taking and eating one of the cut berries with a bright grin on her face. This was a weird morning, she thought, but it had been pretty fun so far!

"It does look pretty good," Xander said, snagging a couple of pieces of fruit for himself. "Tastes good, too."

"Don't eat all the pieces before we can put them together," Alec laughed. "Ready to take this up to Mama?"

Carrying Ivy on his hip to make sure she didn't run off to get sticky again, Dark headed upstairs to check on his wife. Since she had just gotten out of the bath and put her robe on when he came in, he set Ivy down on the bed and went to help wrap her hair in a towel just because he loved her. Then, standing behind her, he rubbed her shoulders for a few moments before telling her to get back into bed, which, had Ivy not been babbling, she would've taken incorrectly.

"I can eat downstairs," She told him.

"Not on Mother's Day," He replied, handing her the fuzzy socks he had left on their heated towel rack.

The twins finished decorating the tray with a tiny bunch of small flowers and a handmade card Alec had made and painstakingly added Braille into, and they made their way up the stairs slowly to make sure Dark and Daizi had plenty of time to get decent. Eventually, Alec tapped on the door while Xander held the tray, and once they were welcomed in, they came inside, and Xander placed the tray over Daizi's lap.

"Your breakfast, Madam!" Alec grinned.

When the twins entered, Daizi was already sitting up in bed while Dark was lying on one side facing her, already talking to each other in the way which would make witnesses think if they were stranded on an island, socially they'd probably be okay. Ivy, meanwhile, was standing next to Daizi with her arms around her shoulders, gleefully joining in on their conversation.

"Thank you," Daizi said cheerfully, shifting so she was in a better position for the tray, "I kept telling him I can just go downstairs to eat."

"I kept telling her it is not the done thing," Dark told them.

"What are the rest of you going to eat?"

"Because most of you love a late breakfast," She teased, "You all cannot get enough of eating later in the day and none of you have ever gotten cranky about it."

"I did feed Ivy a little bit before we came up," Dark assured her, not mentioning that before he did anything he made himself a plate of eggs.

"I figured you must have, she is way too calm."

It was true about Ivy. At that moment she was walking up and down the bed, stopping at Daizi's tray once in awhile to steal a berry. Dark, meanwhile, stay stretched out on his side, resting his head in his hand.

"If you're sure," Daizi said, "but at some point I may decide to point out it's mother's Day and tell you to come sit with me. I just don't want to waste that card prematurely."

"Don't worry," Alec said as he and Xander headed for the door.

"You'll get plenty of us after breakfast," Xander assured her.

They left and went downstairs to round off their breakfast of snacks with something more substantial. That done, they fetched the gifts they'd gotten for Daizi and put them in the living room to await her arrival whenever she chose.

"That's ominous." Daizi said, turning towards her husband.

"I honestly have no idea what they have done." Dark admitted.

"That's even more intimidating."

After enjoying her breakfast, which ultimately was shared with Dark since she felt full after only one and a half crepes and he was more than happy to finish it up for her, she got out of bed so she could get dressed. For that day she chose a red velvet dress decorated with roses and a black fringed kimono. She didn't know if she was going to go anywhere, but she still chose to get dressed as though she might, just in case. Sitting back down on the edge of her bed, Dark came and styled her hair, clipping in a dark red flower before kissing her on the cheek, which made Ivy grumble. Then, finally, with Dark carrying her dishes and Daizi carrying Ivy, they went downstairs to join the twins.

"Thank you," Daizi said, setting Ivy down and taking a seat in the living room.

At first, Ivy was going to play with her toys, but the presents caught her attention and she walked over and, pointing at them asked, "This?"

"For Mama," Alec told her. "Remember?" He pointed to a flat box that had clearly been wrapped by a toddler. He'd used simple brown wrapping paper for that one and let Ivy draw all over it. It wasn't exactly low-vision friendly, but it was a gift from the littlest one! Some of her lines were probably deep enough to be felt. "We had all sorts of ideas like scavenger hunts and things like that, but someone keep shooting them down, or we realized we couldn't get them ready in time, especially with half the family being sick, so I guess you get the boring old 'hand me a gift,'" Alec told his mother. "Ivy, can you give Mama the gift you made?"
