How Green Becomes Wood

"Well," Dark said, sitting back, "It is Mother's Day, so I suppose she has more of a right to Daizi than I do today."

"We can't just let her be jealous," Daizi said.

"No, we cannot, but for just now, it is not the end of the world." Dark replied. Battles needed to be chosen, and it was Mother's Day, so he would let it go just then.

"This is going to be a problem," Daizi told her husband.

"I know," Dark agreed, trying to be a serious parent about it but struggling to not find it incredibly cute.

"Ghalib."

"When it is a day not literally dedicated to children showing their mothers how much they love them, then I will be more proactive, I promise," Dark said, and did mean it.

The twins eventually brought out the mocktails, only four of them as Xander did not want to make Ivy her own whole drink. If one of their parents let her have a taste, that was their choice, but he seriously doubted she'd drink an entire cup of it. It turned out pretty good, and he was very pleased with his first drink-mixing attempt.

They spent the morning hanging out with Daizi and doing literally whatever she wanted. Music? Absolutely. Movie? 100% yes. Game? Any and all!

It was probably for the best Ivy wasn't given her own, especially given the colour of the drink, but Daizi did let her try a sip. When she tried it, Ivy's face scrunched up and she turned her face away... before immediately asking for another sip.

Afterwards, Daizi suggested they spend some time in her garden. Dressed as nicely as she was, she had no interest in actually working on it, but she thought they could play a card came in the grass or on the porch, while Ivy was able to run and play without trying to steal their cards. This worked at first, but ultimately Ivy still did want to play and steal their cards, so Dark had the idea to give her the jokers and the instructional card. This was enough to make her feel included, so she sat happily between Daizi and Alec, putting her cards own on the pile and picking them back up. As they played, Daizi casually asked the twins if they'd like to visit the cemetery that day, and if so when, but tried to ask in a way which would not immediately tank the mood or put any pressure on them.

Alec enjoyed having Ivy with him, well, next to him, watching her play the game in her own way. Babies were so self-centered! Not in a bad way, and it wasn't like Ivy never thought of anyone else, but the world revolved around her, her wants, and her needs, and it was honestly fascinating to watch her and try to remember a time when he might have felt like that. It was such a bold way to live.

When Daizi asked if they wanted to visit the cemetery, both agreed without any hesitation or worry. They wanted to lay flowers on the grave and take a few moments with their mother, but neither had any big plans. Dark, Daizi, and Ivy were welcome to join them if they wanted, but they were perfectly okay if they didn't want to go. Xander suggested after lunch at some point.

There had been once, that Dark could recall, where he had been welcomed to her grave, and even then he couldn't quite recall if he had been invited perse or if he came to collect them from it and chose to stay. Daizi had been even less frequently, and neither of them were certain if Ivy had gone. This being the case, Dark and Daizi agreed to go, and to bring Ivy. It was important: to their sons, to themselves, and to Ivy. It would be a long, long time before she really understood what happened with Tara, but they wanted her to learn about it early, instead of keeping it from her. After lunch seemed a perfect time, although Daizi pointed out if they wanted to bring flowers, they should stop home first, otherwise they'd wilt in the car.

Xander nodded in agreement, but Alec hadn't thought of that. After a moment of discussion, they decided to take the flowers at another time, not wanting to add on extra driving. They dropped by their mother's grave from time to time, so it would not be too much trouble to take the flowers later. Tara would not have minded, they didn't think. She would have liked meeting Ivy far more.

Deciding that was fair enough, Dark finished the last round of cards before he got up to dress himself properly. He hadn't been sitting outside in his pajamas, but his home-clothes and his public-clothes were not the same thing, especially not now that he had a toddler he chased after all the time. Once he was dressed and styled, he came outside to fetch his daughter to get her dressed and styled, because if she was in her going-out clothes for more than two minutes before they left the house, she'd ruin them entirely.

The twins quickly changed into their going-out clothes, and in no time, they were waiting for their parents at the door. They were almost as excited about this as their parents. Once they got to the cafe, Xander spotted a good table, and they sat down to eat.

"As long as we keep coming, we can keep it afloat," Alec said, grinning.

"Right, I'm sure one singular family can keep a restaurant open," Xander said dryly.

Alec smirked at him. "Have you seen how much you eat? Not to mention me and Ba."

"We would go to the sushi buffet," Dark said, "You ordee from a card, they make it and bring it to you, and as long as you finish it all, you are not charged extra."

"Are you allowed back there?" Daizi asked curiously.

His eyes widened for a moment, then narrowed once more, and he looked at his wife only by moving his eyes while his body and face remained perfectly still and impassive, "Yes."

"That would be a concern had I not already been back," Dark told them, "So any old sins have been forgiven. We can go for Father's Day, before Cooger and I are banned for a second time." Although, in his defense, he and his brother had been under the sway of an infamous plant at the time of their initial ban.
