"She took her badge out and everything," Dark replied, putting the tea on a tray and bringing it into the living room. "And had information about your sources we did not."

"I spent the entire time trying to sound more American," Daizi admitted, sitting down on the couch.
 
"It made it very difficult for Miss Jones to argue against us," Dark explained, "She had found proof some of your sources had been used by other students, and she had praised their use on their assignment, which made it clear there was bias."

"I can do an American accent fine enough, but it's hard to stay in it when I'm in the flesh," Daizi answered.
 
"Oof. I'm sorry," Alec winced. "That's pretty bad." He heaved a sigh. "Maybe I never should have even attempted to cover such a sensitive topic."

Xander punched him in the arm. "Like hell. It's not your fault."
 
"Believe me," Daizi sighed, running her fingers through Ivy's hair, "I wish we didn't have to face it either, but that's not a choice we can make. If it wasn't this, it'd be someone at the grocery store, or at the DMV, or someone living in our own neighborhood. At least this problem is one we can do something about."

"And we can help others who are facing the same issue," Dark said, taking up a teacup to keep his hands busy.
 
"You both should keep your heads down, do your work, and finish the school year," Dark told them seriously, "I am going to talk to other parents at the school, and after the year is over, I am going to make a formalized report, but I will wait until the end so as to ensure there will be no retaliation against you."

"She did raise your grade to a B minus," Daizi added, feeling like in the grand scheme of things, it didn't really matter.
 
"Oh, well, that's a good note," Alec said, brightening a hair. "It's not the best news, but now at least that bad grade won't drag everything down. Thank you."

"I want to know more about Aunt Ciara flashing her badge," Xander said. "That must have looked pretty cool combined with Ba's intensity."
 
Sitting back, Dark took a slow sip of his tea and explained how Ciara had seemed to him, very lawyerlike, very much like how a scene in a movie would play out. "I imagine she probably enjoyed it on some level."
 
"You're welcome," Daizi replied, squeezing him gently with one arm since she was still holding Ivy in her lap.

"Do not spend any more time worrying about it," Dark told him, holding him for a moment with his large, strong hand gently on the back of Alec's head before he released him.
