How Green Becomes Wood

"She is charming," Dark agreed, placing his hand on the small of Daizi's back. It might have seemed a defensive, protective gesture, although he really was just letting her know where he was.

After the stranger was gone, Daizi said, "He really came on strong."

"Did he?" Dark asked, walking with her.

"Mhm, he called me an angel, that he'll always treasure the memory of dancing with me, he talked about my physical beauty..."

"I feel that should send me spiraling into a jealous rage," Dark commented.

"I'd be flattered if it would," She teased, "I think if we were in an open-marriage, and I told him so, he would've done anything to take me home."

As the night went on, there was a brief speech thanking everyone for coming out, and telling them what their donated money went to. After the applause, the band struck up again, and there was a nice variety of fast and slow songs. A couple of people approached Daizi for a dance, and one timid request for Dark to dance, but no one was quite as bold as the man who'd danced with Daizi the first time. The only real issue was when one drunk man tried to get Daizi to dance with him, loudly and annoyingly, but his friends were quick to come over and try to apologize while shuffling him away and out. Other than that, everyone was very polite, and even complimented Dark and Daizi on their costumes.

It was strange for Daizi to have so many strangers show interest in her, and she did reject most of the offers. She was there on a date with her husband, and therefore wasn't particularly interested in anyone except for him. Once or twice she obliged, but after the first stranger, if they seemed interested in her in any way other than as a fun dance partner, she refused to go with them. The only time Dark intervened was with the drunk man, because it was the only time he was at all concerned something untoward may happen.

Mostly, they just enjoyed being off in their own world together. The dessert table had chocolate covered strawberries, amongst other desserts, and tucked away in a back corner, they enjoyed sharing them with each other. Having an evening away from their children was lovely, and for once, neither of them felt a moment of guilt about spending a night away. Between the scent of Dark's cologne and the way Daizi's dress emphasized every last sinful inch of her, neither thought about parental duties. Gomez and Morticia would have admired their devotion to one another and taken notes, although they didn't do anything unsuitable for the public. Although, once in a while, a hand usually at the waist was allowed to drop to the hips, just for a moment or two.

Suffice it to say, although they had a wonderful evening together, once the Masquerade was winding down, and there was the expectation the guests begin to exit... They did not feel much of a desire to linger. After enjoying one final dance---fittingly, to Masquerade from Phantom of the Opera---they returned home to the Necropolis, where hopefully everyone was already sleeping. Shoes were left at the door, the salt was touched, and since they were not immediately greeted, they both snuck upstairs so Dark could fulfill his earlier promise to his wife, before not hurrying to sleep.

Everyone was asleep. The twins had considered briefly staying up until they heard their parents get home but then decided it would probably be a bad idea. So, once they were certain Ivy was sound asleep, they enjoyed some hang-out time of their own before heading to bed before Dark and Daizi got home.

The next morning, both wanted to know all about their evening, though Xander tried to play it cool, and Alec was openly curious.

Come morning, Dark and Daizi were as slow to rise as one could be with a toddler, which is to say they were still awake fairly early in the day. Before getting out of bed, Dark took in the sight of his unclothed wife snuggled against him and the absolute mess they had left after locking the door behind them. It needed tidying, certainly, but it would need to wait until after they had Ivy settled and accounted for.

In the period of time when Ivy was awake, but still content in her crib, after pulling on clothes, they both made sure all of last night's makeup was fully removed and took a quick shower.

Then, Daizi collected Ivy to change her diaper and dress her while Dark went downstairs to procure breakfast. Since they hadn't drunk enough to have been intoxicated, they weren't hung over at all, although they were still tired due to their late night, but they still gladly recounted the relevant details of their night. Dark described the other costumes, Daizi discussed the music choices, they both duared their opinion on the food.

"It's been a long time since so many men tried to hit on me," Daizi laughed into a cup of black, caffinenated tea, which was a rare choice for her.

"She was irresistible," Dark said, setting Ivy's breakfast down in front of her.

"No new friends, but we weren't particularly interested in making any," Daizi explained, "We had plenty of people try to talk with us, or try to dance with us, but we went out to spend time only with each other, so we usually declined. We had a wonderful time dancing, though."

"There was one man who would not stop talking at me about the Phantom of the Opera," Dark added.

"I guess you did look a little like the Phantom," Alec mused, thinking back on the costume. "I guess you met a fan?"

"Sounds stressful," Xander stated. The whole masquerade thing sounded like a nightmare to him.

Alec sighed with a smile. "It sounds like a wonderfully romantic evening!"

"I do not mind being mistaken for the Phantom, I dislike being forced into an unending conversation with someone I do not know," Dark said dryly.

"It was a very romantic evening," Daizi agreed, "We need to send our thanks to Ciara, because it was a lovely evening."

Xander snickered at that. "What if it was a conversation about something you were actually interested in? Like history or tattoos?"

"Aunt Ciara will be happy to hear you had a good time!" Alec said cheerfully. "I'm glad, too."
