Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Justira nodded "should I not have?" She wanted to be useful

--

"Yes...it is beautiful and bright. So much color...but...I also know what's out there now.." she shuddered at the memory

Gray thought about how to answer that before he replied. "It does seem a little suspicious, but if you do not mind they know, it is wonderful you helped. I am most of all worried that you will hurt yourself by pushing yourself so far."

~~

"There's lots of things that can kill you down below," Jonah pointed out. "The only real difference between what can kill you up here and down there, is that you're not as familiar with what's up here." He paused, looking down at Misty. "Another difference... a kind of a big one... you're not alone up here like you were down there."

She frowned a little "I don't want them to know. That's why I did it at night" she signed back "I just wanted to help"

--

Misty smiled but only a little "that's a nice thought but...soon as everyone is settled again...what then?"

"Thank you for helping, Justira. That was kind of you," Gray told her, not wanting to think it was unappreciated. "Pepper is doing much better now. I just worry for you."

~~

"Then you can either go back to hiding, or you can choose to stay in touch with your friends." Jonah started walking again. "Come on. The top isn't much farther."

Justira smiled "I'm ok. Just can't heal something like that too often that's all" she explained.

--

She watched him a moment before following him "are we..friends?" She was never ayre if it was pitty or friendship when people were kind to her

"I hope you will not have to try to heal something like that often," Gray said with a faint smile.

~~

Jonah shrugged. "Don't know. We're something. Not ememies."

Justira smiled a little back, glancing past him as Pepper came with a cup of steaming tea "here...hope you like tea" she had one for Gray too

--

"Something is better than nothing" Misty said, though still wasn't sure what that meant.

When they got to the top she found a flat spot "here put my bag down I can set up the equipment "

Gray smiled his thanks as he accepted the teacup and dipped his head. He had to find a spot to set the cup before he could properly sign "Thank you" to Pepper for the tea.

~~

Jonah did as he was told and checked to make sure there were no creepy crawlies that were going to scare her. "What does it do?" he asked idly as he checked the area.

Misty didn't look up as she worked to set everything up "it connects to a a radar still in orbit to detect visual weather patterns from there and it will detect changes in preasure and humidity to calculate the weather we can expect in the near future." She explained in simple terms

That still was almost beyond what Jonah understood, but he nodded. "Right... pictures of the weather. What does it tell us about what to expect?"

~~

Lynna finiahsed packing what she could fit in a back back as well as whatever foodstuffs she could find and a few personal belongings. Her place was several times smaller than Misty's, but still a bit bigger than Pepper's. She met Faelar outside and shouldered her pack. "I think that's everything. I can't think of anything else we can carry right now. Ready?"

"Well.. here let me show you" she slid the tablet put after making some adjustments to some of the knobs "here look see..it shows me these images..this is us and..over here" she pointed "it's showing a storm system and here" she pointed to some numbers it tells me where it's headed and I can do this.." she pressed the forward button to show the visual of the storms route and a timeline on the bottom.

--

"Need me to carry any of that?" He asked, ready to be helpful however he could

"Are we looking at the future?" Jonah asked, his eyebrows arching. He was a bit impressed, he had to admit.

~~

"Sure." She handed him her bag of clothes. "Carry away! It'll be faster if we share the load. I hope Mathias likes all this stuff we got. Food and medical supplies and blankets... we'll be set for a while at least."

Misty smiled "Essentially yes" she answered "at least an estimation of it anyway" she confirmed, having never really thought of it in that way. but yes, it was an estimation of the future.

--

"I'm sure he will appreciate it" he said, taking the clothes and slinging the bag over his other shoulder before picking up Misty's wooden box "alright then, lets go, lead on because I am terribly lost down ere in these dark tunnels, it's a wonder ya can find anythin"

"Huh. Handy," Jonah said before looking out around them again to check for hostiles. "So what exactly is it telling us now? Do we have time to get up proper shelters before the next storm hits?"

~~

"Yeah, well, I'm trying to imagine this reversed and having to follow you about that giant open sandbox of a surface," Lynna said. "I think I'd rather down here where I get to lead."

:depends how fast everyone can work...we have about thirty-six hours until a storm hits us..."

--

"Hey now, what's thay supposed to mean?" Faelar asked "don't ya trust me?"

"That'll be good enough to get some rudimentary shelters up," Jonah said. "Do you have all the information you need?"

~~

"Not like that I don't! But to be fair, you haven't really been given a chance to prove yourself like that," Lynna said cheerfully. She checked the street. It was clear of debris for the next several paces. She grabbed Faelar's arm again and flicked off her light. No need to waste the light for a clear path. Even if the dark was so dark it actually felt heavy. She counted twenty normal paces then flicked the light back on. Perfect!

Misty nodded "yes I got everything" she answered before kneeling back on the ground to pack everything up "do..you think we actually stand a chance up here?"

-

Faelar sighed and continued to follow "i guess that's fair. Even if I did trust you right off"

"Sure," Jonah said without hesitation as he crouched to help her. "We've lived up here before, and then we built an entire civilization underground. What do you want to bet there were plenty of people who thought there was no way we could survive underground, huh?"

~~

"You didn't exactly have a lot of choice," Lynna pointed out. "Your choices were basically trust me or get eaten by wolves. Or possibly lost down here in the tunnel systems."

"Fair enough point" she stuck the tablet in last and zipped it up "if nothing else the human race has proven they are adaptable" she stood up and looked back down on the valley "but we also moved underground because up here was no longer safe.."

--

"And you do?" He countered "any idea what plants are safe ta eat? How ta grow em? Any idea how ta hunt and how animals behave. Which ones taste good?" He shrugged "be my guest. Figure it out on yer own"

"Yep. A few hundred years ago," Jonah remarked, "and then we found out that some people were doing just fine up here. We'll be fine. We'll be even more fine after we get some shelters up for these people. Come on, we need to get down and find Mathias." He started down the hill quickly then slowed when he realized Misty probably couldn't keep up.

~~

"Don't have to," Lynna smirked at him. "If no one else, I've got Mathias and Peter, and then of course there's Badru. I'll bet Badru knows how to do all that and more."
