Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

"Well maybe when I'm bigger things will change and they will let me go build up there" he smiled "everyone should see the sun. We aren't meant to be moles" he repeated what his uncle taught him

--

Misty looked up and smiled a little "hey Lynna" she said "not gone anywhere but the bathroom since we got back.."

Gray smiled and patted Peter's shoulder. "I think I am better suited to be a mole, but you certainly are not. Still, try to be understanding of those who make the rules. They are frightened, and kindness will take you farther than cruelty."

~~

"Sorry, I haven't been in here yet," Lynna said sheepishly as she walked in farther and closed the door. "This place is a maze! So, how are you and, uh, your friend?" she asked, gesturing toward Badru.

"Mamma always says that being kind gets farther than being cruel" he said making Pepper smile a little. She really was trying to be a good mother

--

"Oh it's alright. I'm sure you've been busy" Misty said, brushing it off "I'm doing alright. They say I can go home tomorrow" she then looked over at Badru and smiled a bit "Badru seems fine..he's been looking out for me since we arrived so I'm told" she was developing a fondness for him even though they couldn't really talk yet. Somehow she felt he understood her better than most

"She is very smart. I think that is where you get it from," Gray told him with a smile. "I need to focus on work for a bit. Would you like to look at this microphone set I cannot seem to get working?"

~~

"Actually... I haven't really been that busy. Just hiding," Lynna admitted uncomfortably. She found a small, uncomfortable chair and sat down. "I'm glad you have Badru."

Peter nodded "sure I can see what I can do" he said, happy enpugh for something else to focus on

Pepper in the meantime just curled up where she was, maybe try to catch a nap

--

Misty's brow furrowed "hiding?" She repeated "what from?" She saw Lynna as a very strong woman, not like herself

Lynna looked down at her hands and fiddled with her fingers. "Well... you know... my own thoughts and my head," she mumbled. "I keep seeing you getting attacked... and... well... you probably get it."

Misty fell silent for a moment, reaching up she touched the spot where she had been bitten without really realizing it "yeah...I get it...Every time I close my eyes I see it..Like..those stories that gave me nightmares as a kid....guess they weren't just stories"

Lynna sighed. "I'm sorry. I really failed you. Everyone. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have made it out of there." She lifted her eyes and offered a weak smile. "Thank you. You were awesome."

Miaty shook her head "you didn't fail anyone. Don't be silly..that. thing..would have killed me if you hadn't of shot it" calling it a top dweller seemed insulting to Badru, Quefo and his mother. "And you kept us all together. Took the lead..made that stretcher for Mathias..you did a lot Lynna...all I did was hide in a corner and talk to Gray"

"Yeah, you talked to Gray, something I couldn't have done, and it was your idea to go look in the packs and release the Top Dwellers," Lynna pointed out. "You drove us forward. You came up with the ideas. I just did the heavy lifting."

Misty smiled faintly, she hadn't considered it that way "guess we made a good team then...I couldn't have done what you did" she said "I guess just because you couldn't do something doesn't mean you failed" looking at it that way did help her feel a bit better

"I guess not." Lynna smiled at her with more strength then reached out and gripped her hand. "Thank you for everything you did. You were fantastic! And I'm sorry you got hurt."

Misty squeezed her hand in return "thank you for being strong enough to get us home...You'll do really well on the trade crew...you will keep going won't you?"

Lynna nodded. "Yes, I think so, if the authorites allow. There's some fuss and bother going on right now with what happened and the Top Dwellers being down here. Quefo and his mom have already said they are leaving, but..." She glanced at Badru then leaned over and whispered, "I think they are afraid to ask his plans."

She smiled and glanced at Badru "I don't think he would cause any trouble...Unless someone tried to hurt me" she said "but....I don't want him to go" she admitted, but why would he stay? She was getting better

Lynna raised her brow, glancing between Badru and Misty. Badru sat quietly watching them, and as far as Lynna could tell, she seemed completely unfazed by her presence. "Really? You want him to stay?" she asked quietly, trying not to make it too obvious she was talking about him. "Why?"

"He makes me feel..safe...and I don't know..maybe I am crazy but I feel like he understands me and that's...a nice feeling" she sighed "I sound stupid don't I?"

Lynna shook her head. "No, I don't think you sound stupid. I don't fully understand, but I think I get it. Hey, if he makes you feel safe, then that's all that matters. I hope he stays with you for that, if nothing else."

~~

Gray sat up and stretched. He'd answered messages, passed others along, and checked in with the other villages. Right now, everything was quiet. Pepper was resting, possibly sleeping though he couldn't tell for certain, and Peter was still busy with the microphone he'd given him.
The pale man frowned and felt his pocket. Oh! Yes, he'd almost forgotten with everything that had happened. He pulled out Misty's gift and looked at it curiously before carefully undoing the wrapping.

"Well...I am learning his language to try and talk to him a little...I don't know rhat it will do much good. I don't know why he would stay after I get better..I mean..can't be comfortable for him down here big as he is"

--

Pepper was asleep, curled up tightly with the fluffy blanket.

Peter was too distracted now to pay much attention to Gray.

There were a few things wrapped up for him. The largest was an acorn about the size of a ping pong ball, a few impreasivly sized pine needles, though they had broken in half in transport. Both items to show the scale of the tree's out there. A few large leaves that were a bit crumpled now and drying out but if he was careful about it he could still flatten it out and press them in a book to dry out. And one last thing wrapped in another piece of cloth. Inside were a few seeds. What they were was anyones guess. She had probably just picked up things that were around her when theu stopped to eat, before the storm hit.

Lynna grinned and propped her chin on her hand. "What if he wants to learn your language?"

~~

Gray stared at the items in shock. A slow grin spread over his face as he lightly touched the strongest of the leaves. Then he picked out one of the pine needles, putting the two pieces together. So massive! Maybe... maybe someday he would go up just long enough to see what trees really looked like. He glanced at Pepper and Peter then carefully took out the leaves before wrapping everything up again. He placed the package in a small space between a couple of instraments then picked out a book to place the leaves in. Misty was such a kind soul.
