Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Misty shifted and curled against Lynna in her sleep, like Lynna, the warmth drawing her in.

Mathias settled on the floor near his sister and Peter who were on the couch still.

Justira blinked awake with the movement and sat up, she knew not to touch him so waved a little to get his attention

Gray started at first then calmed as he turned to her. He stared at her, her mere presence calming him and driving the shadows of the nightmare away. After a few minutes of staring, he raised his hands and signed shakily, "A bad dream. I apologize if I startled you."

Justira smiled a little and shook her head "It's ok, you did not startle me" she signed back to him "How do you feel? You gave us all a scare" she asked, concern in her expression, she wasn't exactly sure what she had heard when she listened to his needs, nobody she knew sounded like that. but maybe it had to do with his gift and why he had gotten so week and shaky like that.

Gray looked away and sighed softly. He turned back and signed, "I am sorry that I scared everyone. It was not my intent. I had to use my... my gift extensively, and it drains me. Then I was dreaming."

"It's ok" she signed shaking her head again "I'm glad you're ok, that's all that matters" she signed, watching him curiously but not pressing in about his gift, he would tell her when and if he was ever ready to. "Can I get you anything? water? something to eat?"

Gray hesitated, the conflict clear on his face. Then he asked, "Will you please hold out your hand? Please?" His hands still trembled, though not as badly as before.

Gray hesitated, feeling a bit foolish. What was he doing? Why was he making such a big deal of this? Yet part of his heart ached to do it. Slowly, haltingly, he reached out and laid his hand on hers. Then jerked away from the sensation of skin touching skin. He swallowed painfully and reached out again. This time, he forced his hand to stay and wrapped his fingers around her hand. There! He was holding her hand! And it felt horrible! But as he willed himself to keep his hand where it was, a new sensation made itself known through the skin-crawling sensation touch usually elicited in him. He wasn't sure what it was yet, but part of him was willing to wait and find out.

Justira didn't understand the significance of what he was doing and couldn't ask with him holding her hand. She smiled though, looking at their hands. To her, it felt nice

Gray swallowed hard and endured the touch for as long as he could, but he finally had to let go. He shook his hand lightly to get the tingling sensation out of it. That was different. Maybe sometime he'd ask to try again. "It is good to not be alone," he signed to her.

Justira pulled her hand back, nodding "It is good" she agreed with him "and you don't have to be alone anymore. You have me" she smiled softly

Gray managed a small smile. "Thank you. I have never really had anyone. Not really. I have friends, but I keep them away. It is better that way. I do not know if I should let you close, but I would...I would like to try, I think."

"You're welcome Gray. And thank you for letting me in" she wish she could use tone in signing but she hoped it came across as soft somehow "I will never push you. I promise. And you never have to answer my questions if it makes you uncomfortable. Fair?"

"Fair," Gray agreed. "I do not mind if you ask, but I might not be able to answer. Some questions I have I still cannot answer."

She nodded, that made sense, and she could relate to that too. she didn't fully understand her ability either. "Can I ask then. why are you so apposed to being touched?" she didn't know it caused him physical pain or why that it would cause him pain

Gray hesitated. That was a complicated answer. He decided to go with the simple one rather than the full answer. "It hurts a little. I think perhaps because I have not allowed it for so long. It makes me feel anxious and like my skin is burning. I can stand it for a short time, but I do not like to be touched unexpectedly. It feels like an attack."

she nodded a little, that made sense in a way, even if she didn't fully get it but she now understood the significance of him holding her hand like that and she was touched by his effort "I think I understand, at least a little" she would definitely make a very conscious effort not to touch him unless she asked or he initiated it. Last thing she wanted to do was hurt him "I am here whenever you want to try but if you're never comfortable with it that's alright too"

"Thank you for understanding," Gray signed with a smile. "I appreciate it. Will you tell me something about you now?"

She smiled and nodded, seemed only fair to exchange back and forth like this.

"I told you I can help plants" she signed "but it is not just plants" she picked up the little bag she had, the one thing she was able to grab before being forced from home. She took out a small bone knife she used to cut herbs and the like.

"Watch" she signed before she used to tip of the blade to make a small cut on her arm. Nothing major, enough to dray a couple beads of blood.

She set the blade down and touched the spot close to the cut and closed her eyes to focus. Always a hit strange listening to herself but she would rather do that then cut him plus it always worked faster on herself.

As he watched the little cut seemed to just, heal itself back up like it had never been there

Gray winced when Justira cut herself, but he watched without passing judgment yet. His lips parted slightly in awe as the cut closed up, leaving flawless flesh once more. He leaned closer for another look then looked at her with a nod, clearly impressed. "That is truly a beautiful gift!" he told her.
