Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Mathias just nodded in response

Faelar glanced over at him "think he is still sleepin" he said as he followed behind her

"Everybody is still sleeping, it seems," Lynna grumbled. "Come on, let's see what's down there." She lowered the ladder carefully and checked all around before scampering down, keeping her light off.

Faelar followed after her. Not quite as adapted to the dark as her, he squinted when he got down into the tunnel "I was thinkin...Misty seems ta be takin all this pretty hard.. maybe we could go ta her place too...fetch her a few things from home ya know?"

"Hmm, that's not a bad idea," Lynna said, keeping her voice low. She crept virtually blind away from Mathias' stairway. With the rest of the city dark save for a few isolated spots, shining a light out here would be like a beacon, and someone was bound to investigate. "She seems pretty miserable." She stopped and looked around. This seemed far enough. Putting her hand over her light in a makeshift cone, she kept the light pointed low as she turned it on.

"Yep. Come on, follow me," Lynna urged. She took her hand off the light and let it shine at their feet. "I wish I had a red light or something so it wouldn't affect our eyesight. You have something to fight with, right?"

"Just my fists" he answered? Glancing around now and again to check for movement. "Ya think we will run inta trouble?

"Probably!" she said far too cheerfully. "But even if there isn't any, better to be prepared than to be surprised, don't you think?" She looked around suspiciously before turning up the street toward Misty's house. "At least no one seems to be in sight... yet. They are probably all indoors waiting for the lights."

"Yer people are an interestin sort" he noted "guess that's ta be expected when ya got such a big ol clan...ya think ya will ever move on back down here?"

"Well, I think the problem is that we've gotten so big that there's multiple clans that sort of make up the one big one," Lynna noted. "Instead of thinking like one clan, it's all sorts of confused and messed up with lots of conflicting ideas. Maybe it's good if we get broken into smaller groups. As for moving back down..." She shrugged. "Some might. Some might not. I haven't made up my mind yet what I'd like. The surface is amazing! But it's also dangerous in ways I'm not used to. Down here feels safer, up there feels more alive."

Faelar nodded, it made sense the eay she explained it "well...dangers above I can helpa ya learn" he offered "how ta track. What plants ya can eat and what's poison. All that stuff"

Lynna grinned at Faelar as she strode forward. "Between you and Badru, I think we are going to be just fine on the surface! Thanks." She paused, listening. "Someone is coming." She glanced to the side and spotted an alcove. Nothing to trip over between them and the alcove, so she grabbed Faelar's arm, switched off the light, and sidestepped to the alcove. Anyone looking for the light would be looking where it last was, not where they were currently.

~~

Jonah stretched, wincing a little as he tested his still sensitive side. He glanced around. Seemed like everyone was either doing something or moping right now. Badru had disappeared outside for some reason, Gray was still hiding under a blanket on the couch even though Jonah was pretty sure he was awake, and Lynna was down below. What should he be doing? He was in no mood to mope. He wanted something to do, something to focus on!

Faelar ducked back with her and kept quiet, listening to the darkness and who might be lurking in it. He would follow her lead whatever happened. She knew this place and it's peoples.

--

Pepper seemed to notice from where she sat with Peter. "I'm sure rhey could use you up top" she offered "jusr be sure novody see's you" she glanced at Misty and added much more softy "maybe take her with you" sitting around moping would do her no good

Lynna all but held her breath as a small group shuffled past holding some tiny light source. She couldn't make anything out in the dim light, but with only her and unarmed Faelar, she didn't dare make contact with these people. Maybe they meant well, maybe not, but she wasn't chancing it.

The group shuffled past, whispering nervously, and Lynna let out a breath of releif. She waited a little longer before taking Faelar's arm again and stepping out into the road. She turned on her light and started going forward a little faster, hiding her light as much as she dared.

~~

Jonah glanced at Misty and nodded. "I can do that." He kicked the couch on his way past. "Rise and shine, sleepy heads. Either of you want to come?"

Gray only flinched and kept the blanket over his head.

Jonah kept going to Misty and dropped to one knee. "Come on. We need to get a feel for what the weather is going to be like."

Faelar was good at being quiet despite i
His chatty nature. He did know when to shut his trap. That was good. "How far?" He asked in a hushed tone

--

Justira didn't move, still exhausted from using so much energy.

"Peter..close the blinds honey" she prompted. The little boy was quick to comply, running over and pulling a lever.

Steel plates folded out and blocked the entire window and the sunlight. A dim light came on automatically in response to tje blinds being closed.

Misty looked up, hesitating. She was their weather tech...maybe being put to work would distract from everything else. She nodded "ok.."

"Not far," Lynna assured him. "Three more houses, then up a ladder. I hope she forgot to lock the door." She fell silent until she found the right house. "Okay... here it is." She hooked her flashlight in a belt loop so it pointed down then scrambled up the ladder as fast as her feet could take her. Once she got to the top, she stood and held the light for Faelar.

~~

"Good." Jonah rose and held out a hand to her. "Need anything carried? And you should put on a jacket, probably."

Faelar quickly climbed up after her.

In her rush. The door was left open. Only small signs of her rushed exit, a cup of cold tea on her coffee table half empty and a few dropped items near the door. A notebook and pencil and a couple of loose pages had fallen out of it. Sketches by the look of them.

--

She took his hand and got to her feet "yes actually... my equipment bag...not really easy to use one handed..." it held the weather scanner that fed information to her tablet

"There's a jacket in the closet there id you need Misty. I'll stay in with Gray..maybe we can fix a proper meal for when everyone gets back" Pepper prompted and hoped this would get Gray to come put of hiding too

Lynna looked around. "Good. Doesn't look like anyone has been in here yet." She closed the door behind her and made certain the light couldn't get out. For good measure, she locked the door. "Right, grab a bag or a pillowcase or whatever you can find and put anything that looks useful, personal, or sciency in it," she said, standing the flashlight on the coffee table. "We have to move fast. I don't know how much time the light battery has, and I don't want to use any more than I have to." She scooped up the notebook since she was standing next to it and shoved it in her bag before looking for something else to put stuff in.

~~

Jonah retrieved the equitment bag and put it over his shoulder before grabbing the jacket. He offered it to Misty, awkwardly and wordlessly offering to help her into it. "Come on. Let's see what's going on with the clouds."

Gray stirred but did not yet come out.

Faelar nodded and quickly went about stuffing a bag he found on a closet. Found a battery lantern he replaced for the flashlight on the table to spare the flashlight.

Misty didn't have a lot besides necessities, Falaer did find a wooden box carefully tucked away though that he grabbed. Having a hunch it was personal items.

--

She accepted the help getting the jacket on. Especially the part she had to take her arm out of the sling and thread the casted arm and shoulder through the sleeve. Awkward for all involved "all set...just.. stay close?" She was scared clearly

Lynna found a few science looking items and some food stuff she quickly stored away as well as some hyginic items. Now that would come in handy! She felt a twinge of guilt for raiding her friend's home, but this was all basically going back to her, so it would be fine. Right? She cast another look around then tied a blanket around her waist.

"Ready to go?" she asked Faelar, moving to the table to get the lantern.

~~

"I'm not going sightseeing," Jonah assured her gruffly. "Come on. I'll get the door."

He paused at the door and listened closely before opening it slowly. Seeing no one close, he stepped out and offered Misty a hand. "Watch your step."
