Maric Vakarian - Al'vyon estate

As he was seated down on the couch, he felt her warm hand caressing his cheek, it felt wonderful there, prompting the flash of them together to reenter his mind. He forced himself to focus on her in the resent though as he answered her question. "I'm better than I was the first time this happened. I think that the more memories are triggered, the more my body will become used to them. I could definitely use some more of that tea though." He said with a chuckle, trying to keep light hearted.

He paid close attention to her when she described the others, Taran being her mentor seemed to make sense, he felt like their relationship back then might've been close. She mentioned them being lovers and the thread started tangling together. He burst out laughing when she called herself a slut, having to stop and collect himself because he got light headed. "No, no Xena. I was a slut. I think you might've just been seduced by my charms." He said with a wink, noticing that their hands were still together, intertwined. It felt right.

Her lips twitched into a smile. The two of them just being here together, laughing like old friends... it made her heart flutter. There was a feeling that she could not quite decipher... almost as if there was a switch inside her that flipped in the right direction. Her uncertainty vanished as she replied. "Perhaps you did." she muttered... and in the spur of the moment, some instinct she could not quite resist, she leaned closer and kissed his hand, looking up and meeting his silver irises. She giggled softly as she continued with a rather teasing grin. "You must have been pretty irresistible."

His heart skipped a beat when she kissed his hand. Her lips felt so wondrous against his skin. As she looked up at him, the look in her eyes was unmistakable, one that he'd seen countless times over the years as he brought men and women to their knees with wanting. The look of lust. The switch flipped from gentleman to shameless flirt in an instant. "Darling, I'll have you know that I'm still irresistible." He grinned, tracing his hand across her cheek and to the back of her head as he became lost in her amber eyes.

She knew she had been the one that started the teasing, but she couldn't help but blush a little as he traced his hand across her cheek. She laughed softly, a little nervously, almost expecting her heart to go overdrive. But then... she didn't have a heartbeat. She never did. She had a been a vampire all her life after all... or was I? There it was again, the second guessing, the "maybe"s and "probably"s. She wasn't really sure what came over her in that few seconds when he kissed Maric's hand, but it just felt right. In fact, when he switched onto a flirtatious persona, it was almost like she had been half expecting it. This must have been the Maric she knew, all those years ago. "So you call me a darling now?" she laughed as she let go of his hands, walking into the corner of the room before facing him again. "How many women have you seduced through that nickname, you sly incubus, you?"she said rather playfully, as she strolled through the bookshelves, getting all the other books she believed she has written herself. "I know your kind's nature, I will not become a number in your jar of hearts, unfortunately for you." she made a small shrug as she gave him an amused smile.

She pulled away, and Maric felt his heart sink. She walked away from him and he needed to chase after her. He stood up from the couch "No, Xena wait." He said before catching himself on her desk, having stood up far too fast. Collecting himself, he started towards her again. "It's true, I'm still an incubus by nature, but you're not just a name in a jar to me Xena. If there's one thing Buttercup has taught me in the fifty years I've known him, it's how to foster a relationship with someone that isn't just physical. That's the kind of relationship I feel myself wanting with you." He managed to reach her and took her hands in his. "I felt it when you lost consciousness at the sanctuary, and again when you held the knife to your throat at the necropolis. My heart urging me to hold you, protect you, make you the happiest vampire in the world. I..." He couldn't find the words he wanted to say, so he looked away from her in regret. "I don't ever want you to feel like my appreciation for you only goes skin deep."

Xena blinked in surprise. She had not been expecting such words. Such... tenderness in his eyes. That sincerity. He stood up and took her hands. She felt rather dumbfounded, a little speechless. But she felt... pleased. Happy. She smiled, her amber eyes filling with gratitude as her hand tightened in his. "I see. Thank you." she murmured. She didn't know what else she should say. His expression was filled with so much regret... she held his cheek and smiled, turning his head to face hers. "Thank you, Maric. I'm sorry for assuming otherwise."

His eyes softened, fear turning to relief as her hand turned him to face her. He was burning up inside, this time not from the effects of the memory. The first girl he'd ever felt a genuine fondness for was standing there in front of him, her hand on his cheek. He'd just declared his affection for her, he couldn't wait anymore, he couldn't keep the feelings suppressed. He wrapped his right hand around the left side of her waist and brought her close. His eyes closed and his lips met hers, and for the first time he could remember, he felt bliss. As he kissed Xena, he knew that it felt right, that his place in life was at her side.

Xena felt her blood rush to her cheeks as he wrapped his hand around her waist, pulling her closer. Her heart ached in anticipation, her stomach twisting in knots. Their lips met, and she couldn't help but melt at the feeling of his lips against her own, the sound of his breathing as he kissed her. Her eyes fluttered close as she responded, placing a hand on his chest as she clung to his shirt. The kiss was gentle, soft... and sweet. She loved the taste of him, the smell of him... But then she remembered.

His gentle visage, his loving eyes. Taran... It felt like a weight was suddenly present in her stomach as she pulled away. As much as the kiss was magical, it felt like a betrayal. She buried her face in his chest for a moment as she pondered the feeling. Why do I still care? she thought to herself, her hold in Maric's shirt tightening a little bit. He did this to me. He lied to my face. He betrayed my trust. And he doesn't... care anymore. At least not enough to tell me the truth. That's right. She need not cling to the love that was in the past, a love that had already clearly been forgotten, trampled, and tossed in the garbage. She needed to move on too... but is this right? What does she feel about Maric, really? This was utterly confusing. All she knows is that this man... is someone precious to her. Has been... and will always be.

"Maric." she murmured softly against his chest. "Don't ever betray me. I don't know how I feel right now, and this must be a selfish request but..." she looked up at him, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Will you... stay by my side? Please?"

His heart melted as she asked her request. He hugged her tighter in his embrace, tears of joy brimming from his eyes. "Of course. I'll stay by your side even if Aditi herself tries to tear you away from me. I wont ever betray you Xena." He rested his forehead against hers, completely content with the moment. He didn't care if she didn't fully understand her feelings for him yet, if he was completely honest, he didn't completely know how he felt about her. The one thing he knew for sure though, was that Xena was the most important person in the world to him. He'd protect her until his dying breath.

Xena felt herself calming down as she felt his arms on her embrace tighter. She felt protected... safe. They stayed like that for a moment, reveling in each other's warmth, and she silently nuzzled closer to his chest, listening to his heartbeat. He smelled good. In fact... she realized she could almost feel the blood pulsing inside his body. She was suddenly painfully aware of the thirst in her throat, barely sated by her feeding on Errol from earlier. Still... it was a strange feeling. She was so used to blood as a healer, she had actually thought she had lost that ability to crave. Her feeding from Errol was mostly just for survival, after all. That is why it was usually him that ends up reminding her of her meal times. She let go of Maric, giving him a small sheepish, almost shy smile. "I should probably go back to the Sanctuary soon. Errol's been left there for a few hours now, he'd wonder what's taking me so long." Not to mention, she needed to feed, evidently. I've forgotten to heal Errol too, didn't I? her thoughts drifted. She didn't like leaving that wound on him if she'll be honest... although she had no idea why.

His heart ached as she moved away from him. He just wanted to stay in that moment of bliss for as long as he could, but alas, he knew she was right. He'd kept her far too long, he probably should report back to the Circle as well. Hi'dric would want to know where he was, as would Buttercup. Still, he couldn't bear the thought of parting with her. "Would you mind if I walked you there?" He asked sheepishly. "It may be selfish but, I'd do anything for a few more moments with you."

Xena smiled and nodded. In fact, she was hoping he will. She still had a lot of things in her mind at the moment, but everything almost felt... okay. Like things are falling back into place, like things are getting better. She actually felt positive that the future is somewhere she still wanted to see, a place she still wanted to be in... no matter how shitty things have become. "Maric... Thank you." she said as she tiptoed and kissed his lips once again, just lightly, a chaste kiss. Her cheeks were slightly pink as she turned away and walked towards the door. "You are free to... I don't know... visit me here or in the Sanctuary, anytime." a small smile passed her lips as she opened the door and looked back. "Let's go?"

The chaste kiss to his lips was without a doubt in his mind, the cutest thing any girl or guy had ever done for him. He gave a slightly sly grin to her as she said he was free to visit. "I will definitely be taking you up on that offer." He walked over to her and took her hand in his as he entered the doorway. "Let's go."

As they exited the household, Maric hoped that Jocasta and the other members of the Circle weren't around, if they saw him doting on Xena like the lovesick puppy he was, he'd surely be in trouble. He didn't rush, but he hoped they'd make it to the Sanctuary soon.

Hi'dric looked at Jocasta with a raised eyebrow. "Delphine, what's wrong?" He asked, noting the exhaustion in her voice. "Do you need to feed?" He asked his lover, as he stepped towards her. He was glad she had caught him after his earlier mission, after all, there weresome things better left unknown.

She shook her head. "I fed earlier in the morning." She chuckled a little awkwardly. That experience was a little crazy, but also satisfying in a way. "I have to tell you something. It's about Maric and a woman named Xena. There's some kind of connection they have. Did Buttercup tell you what happened to him when he went to go see you?"

Hi'dric nodded as Jocasta told him of her earlier feeding. "Yes, I've been informed. How is Maric, is he recovering well?" Hi'dric's expression showed worry for the incubus. After he had heard what happened, he couldn't help but worry for Maric's well-being.

She felt an instant sigh of relief. So Buttercup told him everything about Xena and passing out. Well, that was at least good to know. Jocasta bit her lip. "Well, Maric wasn't in the room when I came back. I was bringing him water but..." She sighed. He was so stubborn. "He went out to Necropolis and he was with a woman. I don't know who she was at the moment but... they are connected to the past, somehow. They kept talking about memories. They talked about being part of a group of eight, some silver haired vampire named Taran, and..." She began to rush. "Her name is Xena! They used to torture souls and used to be lovers or something back then. I don't know. Then, they planned on going back to the Sanctuary, but decided to travel here instead. I went with them to keep an eye on Maric. He is obsessed with her. I mean, he was very defensive when I tried to ask questions about her past?" She tried to slow a little for Hi'dric to understand and sighed. "Is that bad? Asking her how she became a doctor? How long she's been a doctor? I don't know what it is but there's something going on between them and I don't know what it is."

~Hi'dric Varon Normell- Residential District~
"No, it isn't bad to be curious. I don't know how many times I have to tell you that. Regardless if this Xena and Maric has a past, then they have one. If it doesn't threaten the cult there is no need to worry over it."
Hi'dric sighed. "What exactly happened when they went to Xena's house, Delphine?" he looked her right in the eyes as he asked her this question. "Do not leave anything out." he demanded, rubbing his forehead as he did so. This was getting out of hand.

Jocasta pulled a strand of hair away from her face and sighed. "There was wine spilled on the floor when we entered. Xena gave us tea and we sat down. I complimented the interior. She talked about some man named Wroth being strange. Maric felt better all of a sudden, but I asked Xena some questions, trying to make a friend, and Maric scolded me for it. I asked if she had a family, if she was noble once. The estate was rather nostalgic for me which is why I asked but regardless, she told me she didn't know. I was told to leave and let you and Buttercup know Maric was doing fine and left just as quickly as I came." She wondered if perhaps she had "gone too far" or if it was simply just fine to ask Xena, a woman, who in all respects, appeared to be similar to her in nature, being what she hoped was a noble and a healer at that. Jocasta wasn't sure what she'd done wrong, only that there was something she did wrong.

"Well, I suggest you have a talk with Maric at some point. There may be some misunderstanding if he scolded you." Hi'dric said with a sigh. "Come, we will be travelling back to the prison. I don't want to be out here longer than necessary." He said as he began walking, trying his best to ignore the scents that flooded his nose. He needed to feed soon. "I'll send for them shortly. I have to meet Xena anyways."
