Smugglers Cove (Love2write and Silence)

(No I was meaning a shot in the knee feels weird. Lol)

Killian waited for Adam to leave before he started to settle back into the bed. It was probably to early to even pretend to put weight on his leg but, he knew there was zero intimidation factor if he yelled from his bed. There were days when Adam was his most difficult crew member. Typically the man chose the times when Killian was least able and that was normal for someone that wanted to be captain, someone that might try to mutiny.

Wincing some he covered the leg again and ignored the little bloody spot from where some of the stitches had begun to pull. The captain just got comfortable when Star came into the room. He opened his eyes and frowned a little. "Oh just moody. He doesn't like the way I do things." Adjusting his position he sat up a little more. The moving pulled on his leg and he winced. "Agh...You know we're coming up on a possible problem. If we get a call that we've been fired on you bring the boards in here and I'll have you make the commands." For now it was more important to get her caught up on the situation. Killian figured he would worry about the food in a moment. "You're going to be in here so I know what you're doing but, I don't think my brain would work fast enough to make some calls."

Taking a bite of the food he gave a pathetic grin. "It tastes good." Killian took a few more bites and then he laid back again. "I'm just tired out." He almost fell asleep and then he felt her hand on his shoulder. "Yeah I'll finish eating." Sitting up again he took another couple of bites and then handed it back to her. Not really hungry I guess."

(Oh, lol. I can't imagine that would be very comfortable.)

"Me!?" Star gapes, pointing to herself. She wasn't sure how she felt about that. She'd never run a crew before. She tries to shake the thought out of her mind. It was an unlikely senario anyhow. She tries to get him a bit more, even shaking his shoulder to keep him awake. Meds on an empty stomach would get anyone sick, but he ends up pushing the rest of the meal back to her. She sighs. You couldn't force a man who wasn't hungry to eat.

A blast suddenly rocked the ship, throwing Star and the food on top of Killian (thankfully she avoided his leg). Adam's voice echoed over the intercom. "An alliance ship just dropped out of FTL in front of us. It's attacking!" Star gulps as she realized she was in charge. She rushes off to take over the situation and slips on a headset. "What's the damage?"
"Minimal outer hull damage. But it took out a good percentage of our shields. I'm starting evasive manuvers." Adam reports. "Shit!"
"What?" Star comes to his side.
"Someone is trying to hack into our system. They're trying to take over the controls."

Star immediately takes a seat next to the computer. "Timo, come to the bridge." She calls over the intercom. Timo appears at her side and she hands him two comm-sets. One for himself and one for Killian. "Take this to the Captain, then go help Mike."

She gets to work delaying the hacker while also monitoring their situation and dealing out orders as she saw fit. Another blast rocked the ship and she heard the Captain's voice in her earpiece. "There's a hacker on the alliance ship. They're trying to get in our system. I'm putting up firewalls now but that means I need to be up here." Adam does a hard turn and releases a volley of missiles at the ship engaging them.
"How long till the ship is ready for FTL?" She asks.
"It should be ready now. I don't know why she's not...oh looks like that last hit damaged the turbine."
"Mike." Star calls on her earpiece. "The turbine's damaged. Can you fix it?"
"...*static*...cutting out...*static*...Timo...*static*...dead."

Both Star and Adam looked at eachother in horror. "Did he just say?"
"Just...concentrate on the task at hand. We'll worry about the kid later." He growls, sending them through another series of maneuvers. Suddenly, the entire ship went dark. Everyone went quiet.
"What the hell..." Adam murmurs trying to get the system to reboot.

Star looks out the window. "Everyone else in the area just went dark too, 'cept for that ship." She points to a resistance cruiser which was in the process of completely obliterating the alliance ships. Both of them were destroyed in a matter of seconds. Then it jumped to FTL. "How...?"
"I thought ship-killers were a legend..." Adam murmers.
"Ship killers?" Star questions.
"Like a EMP, only more powerful. Kills the engine of any ship in seconds. I heard rumors, but...didn't really think they existed. Maybe..." He makes a face. "Maybe that's what we stole for the resistance."
"That's a game changer..." Star shakes her head. "The alliance won't stand much of a chance if several alliance ships contain that technology."

The ship reignites, the lights turn back on and the engines roar to life. "Finally....its going to take a minute for the computer to boot back up. It wasn't designed to go down like that." He says.
Star didn't care about the computer she was worried about Timo. She sprints off towards the engine room, praying she hadn't heard Mike correctly.

Killian just nodded at the woman. "Yes you're in charge." He was about ready to fall asleep again when she was thrown into him. A little bit of food fell into his hair and the rest of it smeared on his torso and probably some on the front of her too. If there was anything to get him awake that was it. Sitting up in the bed he didn't have time to say anything before the woman darted out of the room. Leaning over he pulled a drawer out from under his bed and pulled a pair of pants out. They were a little baggy and that would help.

He was finishing buttoning the pant when Timo came in with a headset. Killian nodded and took it from the boy. Sliding it on he listened to what was going on. Maybe it was a mistake having the woman run the ship. She thought that remote control would save them. The only way to stop a hack like this was to shut his ship down. That was something he could do manually. It was part of the benefit of having a smugglers ship. There were little ways to prevent problems. If they didn't give signal there was nothing to control. At least it would inhibit the signal and give them more time to react. For the time he was too focused on getting to the main power that he turned his voice off from the rest of them. If they were being hacked he didn't need for the hacker to get into the voice channel and prepare to counter act what Killian was about to do.

Bracing his hands against either side of the hallway he swung himself forward and used only his good leg. That was till he came to the bridge over the cargo bay and he had to use the railing and his injured leg only a little bit. Grunting he forced himself into the next corridor and braced his hands against the wall. He heard Mike say something about Timo and then the dreaded word.

"No..." Growling under breath the captain kept pushing forward. It would be the rest of his crew if he didn't do something. Before he could get to the main controls it all got black. At least he could hear the woman and Adam talking. There was something that the resistance had. They had just won the battle in such a short time. Turning he braced his back against the wall and sighed in relief as he slid down the length of the wall to sit. Killian rested one hand over a bleeding incision. Now that they were safe for the time he waited for a long moment before getting back onto the voice channel. "How's Timo?"

Star tore into the engine room. "Timo!?"
The boy popped up from behind the engine, oil and grease on his hands and feet. "What? What?"
"Damn it, Mike! You scared me half to death!" She exclaims at him, rushing to Timo and pulling him into a tight hug.
"What??" Timo protested, not understanding why she was holding him so tightly.
"Over the comm....it sounded like...well...It sounded like Mike said you'd been killed."
"What!?" Mike protests. "That's ridicu....oh...well...the comm was cutting out...and I did say something to kid about it probably being 'dead' soon." He scratches the back of his head

"How's Timo?" The voice of the Captain came over the earpiece.
Star sighs and release Timo. "It was a misunderstanding, boss. He's fine."
Then Kato's voice joins the conversation. "Sir, I'm in your room...but you aren't. What are you doing out of bed with that leg? And...where are you."
Star rolls her eyes. He was so freakin' stubborn.

Killian took a deep breath. "Alright you tell Mike...." About that time the doctor cut into the channel and the captain cringed. It was the worst case scenario. How he'd overlooked the fact that someone wouldn't notice him getting back to his room was a bit laughable. "Look under the bed doctor. I might be stuck." Turning the voice channel off he laughed momentarily before turning it on again. "Back by the main control shut off." The captain turned the voice channel off again so he could curse under his breath. Lifting his hand off his leg he noticed that the blood had leaked through enough that his hand was bloody too and the pants. No hiding it now.

Eventually the corridor darkened with the outline of 3 crew members. Killian frowned at them. "You didn't expect I'd let someone just hack the mainframe and stall us out here."

"I had it under control." Star crosses her arms, looking at him sternly.
Mike and Kato helped him to his feet.
"Perhaps I should lock you in the med-bay, Captain..." Kato says simply as they escort him back to his room.
Kato tended to his leg, pulling out the torn stitches and dressing his leg with new one. "The inflammation has gone down. You're lucky you didn't cause further damage to your leg by getting up on it. If you do not stay off it for the next two weeks I will have no choice but to strap you down in the medbay. Unless of course you wish to end up with a limp far worse than your last one."

Killian's eyebrows raised slightly at the sass he was getting from Star. "Oh I'm sure you did." He found it doubtful that she had it 100% under control. Hacks were not usually that easy to block. Just when it looked like you were gonna beat a good one they would come back with a new version of the original that would leave you floundering. Experience told him that.

Grumbling a little he let Mike and the doctor help him to his feet. The way back to the room hurt quite a bit and he tried not to complain. He could always save that for later. Killian didn't mind if Star thought he was wimpy. It kept her around. In the room he felt the doctor reach for the button his pants and he slapped the man's hand. "I can do that myself." Didn't seem that he got far before Kato had to actually pull his pants off. Somehow putting them on was much easier. The captain turned red at the prospect of someone else having to help him get undressed.

"Deeaaw...Ow." Sitting up he watched the doctor pull the stitches out and then replace them. Kato was threatening him with being strapped in the med-bay again. "You wouldn't dare." Killian glowered at the man and then his jaw dropped. "You would!" He would have gotten up right there and threw the doctor out for even talking like that but, he couldn't and he was very sure that the threat was real. One that Killian wouldn't win because he knew Mike would side with Kato and Star wouldn't help.

Laying back in the bed with a sour expression he let the doctor finish. Before Kato left the captain gave him a final order. "Tell Timo I need to see him for a few minutes."

"As you say." Kato nods and walks away to retrieve the boy.
Timo pushes in a few minutes later with oil and grease on his face and with a cup of hot cocoa in his hand. "Kato said you wanted to see me?" Timo sat in a chair next to him. "Did I do good today? I did everything Mike said to do."

Killian grinned when the boy stepped into the room. "Oh you did really good." The grin only got wider as he was formulating his plan. "I need you to go dig into the secret storage slot right..." Pointing to a little ship map he glanced back at the boy. "There. I've got a box hidden in there that nobody knows about except you and me. Bring that box to me and close the storage slot again. Then go sit in the kitchen for about 20 minutes. After that I need you tell Star I need her. Don't worry there is something special for you to." Patting the boy on the shoulder he winked. "Ok see you in a bit."

Timo jumps up and rushes off, leaving his cocoa on Killian's bedside table. He returns 10 minutes later, hands Killian the box then hurries off to the kitchen.
"Timo? Weren't you just in here?" Star puts a hand on her hip as he comes back in.
"I'm hungry." He shrugs.
"Again!? Growing boy." She shakes his head and shows him how to make a sandwich with the supplies they had. He keeps an eye on the clock, making small talk with Star for next 20 minutes.
"Oh yeah! I forgot. Killian wants to see you." The boy says suddenly.
Star shakes her head. "That man probably just wants to pampered more." She sighs. "I swear, he keeps injuring himself on purpose." Despite that she heads to Killian's room and knocks on the door. "Captain?" She opens the door and enters. "The kid said you wanted me.."

Killian waited for the box patiently and when the boy came in he nodded to him. "Good job." Opening the box he peered inside before pulling out the first item and then digging in for the next. It took him a while to get it all set out just the way it was supposed to be. The captain knew it would take him close to 15 minutes. When the woman came into the room he had a small table set up with wine glasses and an aged wine. It was a good year and he'd kept it for a while. About 30 years old. His first big steal as a kid and he'd kept it all these years.

The last item he had stuffed under his pillow. Sitting on the edge of the bed he tried not to wince. Killian had managed to barely scramble into a pair of pants and turn his shirt the right side out. His night stand was the table for now. "Come on in." Peering up at Star as she poked her head in he grinned. "Yeah."

Pointing to the seat he motioned for her to sit down. "Thought we might make a toast to your first attempt at playing captain." After he said it that sounded kinda off. "Well I mean you did a good job...I-I-I uh...This was the first big steal I ever made and figured you'd be the best person to share it with." He was trying very hard to be romantic and somehow it felt like he was missing the mark. When they finished a glass each he dug under the pillow and pulled out a dress wrapped in tissue paper. "Went back to that clothing store when I bought all the stuff for the doctor. You looked real pretty in that one."

(Lets take this scene a little slower so they can have an actual conversation.)

Star's eyes lit up in shock and delight at the set up. He'd done all this for her? The romantically challenged Captain? She sits in the chair both shocked and thoroughly moved by the gesture. And then he pulled out the bounty of his first theft. She smiled brightly as he poured her a glass.

"This is beautiful, Killian." Then he pulled out the dress. Her mouth opens in joy. She snatches the dress from his hand and practically sprints to the bathroom. She exits a few minutes later and twirls. The dress was a beautiful red, almost matching her hair. She walks up to the bed slowly then bends over and plants the long-awaited promised kiss on his lips. "Thank you. This was very sweet." She sits back down pouring another glass of wine for the both of them.

(Working so hard on this.)

The captain swallowed hard and met her gaze. "Well I hoped you liked the red one. I do." Nervously he tapped his good leg and breathed deeply. It almost sounded like kiegal exercise breathing. When the lady returned he looked down at the table and kept his gaze there for several seconds. It was too hard to look at her. He felt like a fool doing this and he didn't even know what he was thinking asking her here. Killian didn't even have anything to say.

When she poured another glass he figured it was an easy thing. Just focus on the drink for a few seconds till it all calmed down. At least the heart rate anyway. Killian's heart almost jumped onto his tongue soon as Star spoke again. "Uh well...I'm uh...That thing you told me about. Trying it on for size." After a second he blinked and then took another sip of the wine. "You know doing special things for a girl. I mean you and its not just about getting under your skirt. You know I should stop talking." Tilting the cup he gulped the last of the wine. Clearing his throat as he set it down he frowned slightly. "You ok?" She had a look on her face and he wasn't sure if it was good or bad.

"I just think you're adorable when you're flustered." She smirks, taking another sip of wine. "So if you didn't do this for that reason...then...why did you?" She presses, pouring him another glass.

Killian started to rub his good knee almost out of nervous habit. This was getting really awkward. "I'm not flustered." Star looked like she was enjoying the prospect of putting him on edge and he didn't want to give her that advantage. If nothing else he could fall back on the idea that his leg hurt and it was time to go back to bed. Except he was sitting on his bed. Her question had to be answered. "I like you." Killian figured that a quick short answer would do this time. No more stumbling he had to quit doing that.

Star smiles kindly. "I like you too." She clinks his glass. When they'd finished that glass she helps him put the table, glasses and wine away. "Thankyou for a lovely date, Killian. Even though you were hurting, you took the time to think of me. I really appreciate it. Goodnight." She smiles at him one more time and closes the door.

Timo waits until Star had left, gaping at her beautiful dress. "Wow!" He exclaims bursting into Killian's room. "She's so pretty! Did you get her that dress? If you got her that...what did you get me!? A new shirt?" He asks excitedly bouncing up and down for the promised present.

The man grinned a little and decided that she didn't need a response to her statement. At least they liked each other. There was that much involved and it was a good start. After the glasses clinked he sipped what was left in the glass and set the empty wine glass down. Just as it felt like they were going to be getting more comfortable the lady got up to leave. Killian just pushed the glasses into a small bag. He could always wash them later and corked the bottle again. Wasn't much to do since it was only moving the night stand to the edge of the bed.

Right after the woman left Killian hadn't the chance to get comfortable and the boy burst through the door. "Whoa..." He wasn't really ready for that. Killian thought for a long moment and then pointed to the closet. "Yeah open it up you'll find something in there."

As soon as the closet opened a kitten came out. "Keep it out of the engine room but, it'll be good to keep around. Eats some of the bugs and rodents that like to hole up in the ship."

Timo gasped. "A kitten!!!" He exclaimed and immediately picked up the black and white creature, cradling it in his arms. "Thankyou, Killian! What should I name him!? Hmm, how about...Comet? Yeah. Comet. I have to show Star!" He dashes out of the room.
"Star! Star! Star! Look was Killian got me!" He held up the kitten. "His name is Comet!"
"Awww," Star takes the kitten into her hand and inspects it. "Actually, its a "she", kid."
"Oh...well, she's mine now. I have to take her to see Adam and Mike." Timo snatches Comet from Star and rushes off to the bridge. "Adam! Adam! Look! The Captain got me a kitten!"
Adam sneers in disgust. "First women, then children...now kittens...damn Captain's gone soft." He grumbles shoving the kid away. "Go take that thing somewhere else." Timo frowns but decides not to let Adam's grumpiness affect him.
He runs the kitten to Mike. "Mike, look! Killian got me a kitten. Her name is Comet! Isn't she pretty!?"

Mike nearly fell over when the cat was thrust into his face. "Good lord." He didn't know what to make of the little furry creature. "Its been a long time since I've seen a cat around here. You take good care of it. Keep it out of the engine room." Last they needed was for this cat named Comet to get tangled in some gears somewhere. "That's very nice." Glancing at his watch he started to usher the boy back to his room. "Time you be getting to bed. Tomorrow will be starting early. We need to dock for repairs. Probably be stuck on the planet for a few days so mind you don't let the cat off the ship."

**************************************

Early the next morning Killian woke up. He didn't like it being early but, he needed more of the pills the doctor gave him and he couldn't sleep any longer. Laying in the bed was torturous enough as it was. The only things coming to mind since they were docking was various kinds of mischief. A grin started to form on his face and by mid morning he was doing his best to suppress his laughter.

****
Star and Timo entered his room around 10 that morning. "I'm going to take the kid shopping for supplies for Comet. You want me to pick up anything while we're out?" Star asks, putting some food by his side. Her nose wrinkled as she smelled the excessive body oder in the room. "Maybe you should have Adam or Kato help you too the shower while were gone too."
Timo snickers behind his hand while covering his nose.
