Alavin - Dining Hall

Grinning at the newcomer, Alavin toasted him briefly with his rice ball. "I managed to acquire an unfortunate taste for fancy canapes serving them to rich sponsors."
The newcomer seemed to be older, and by the way he carried himself and the way he spoke, he had been around the block a few times. Alavin grinned at his luck. The other girl who came over with him was much quieter. She didn’t seem as comfortable joining their little clump of small talk and awkward interactions. But she had come over with the man, so she must be in a higher grade as well. Alavin gave her a gentle smile as Elise stuttered her way through. She was doing very well making the most of this awkward situation.
Alavin listened to the new man attempt put her at ease while procuring another glass of water. What excellent flattery. Spotting a plate of bugs across the table, he leaned over to pick it up. He brought it up in front of eyes to survey the assortment of beetles and small winged creatures filling the plate with curiosity. Intriguing. They didn't seem to be struggling with catering for all the different races. He wondered if they had some Verdant forest cake anywhere.
He placed the plate and cup of water in front of the Elise.
He nodded in agreement with the newcomer. "He is right-your jacket really complements your colouring."
Leaning forward slightly to see past Elise to the somewhat more awkward boy next to her, he gestured towards a bucket further down the table. "Would you be kind enough to grab a long straw for Elise, Borderman?"

Headmaster Arnest, Valdric Anders - Dining Hall

The headmaster looks over the hall as the students feasted and chattered. However, despite the cheery atmosphere when the Headmaster stands up to address the man's voice was somber and commanding. "Students. While today should be one of merry and cheer, I have grave news. A week before, the Emperor Burgolt Ulmarc has sent me a message informing me that General Vridil Willehalm, as well as a force of nearly 8,000 men shall visit the city to gather soldiers for an attempt to take the city of Grauewand, to establish a foothold within Stalian territories. I have been tasked to provide a dozen mages as well as an additional 2000 soldiers to bolster General Willehalm's forces. I shall not place the burden of battle to any of the college's current students, but know that these times are dire and one day you might be called upon to fight for the Empire against hordes of corrupting abominations. Before this speech becomes too somber, I wish to welcome the new First Years to the school, the future of the College and maybe the Empire as a whole." The dining hall erupts into a collection of low claps that ended rather quickly. "Now I regret to say that this is all the news I have for you, but I am busy with the coming of the General. I bid you all a good night." The Headmaster quickly disappears in a flash of light to do his business.

Valdric listened to the headmaster's words and he can't help but feel a bit of pride as he helps Elise with her drink. "You know my father's going to fight in this war. He's an engineer you know. Studied in the College of Engineering in Herstellersland and everything. He's even lost an eye and a couple fingers while trying to build a Steam Tank too." He said, beaming with pride.

Simon - Dining Hall

Laughing at the brazen request from the Verdant Simon spoke "No need for that we have servants for these types of things" he gestured to a tunnel goblin that was putting food on the tables. Simon placed a silver coin on the table which the little servant greedily took "Whatever your job was before it's fetching our requests now" The goblin pocketed the coin and with a toothy grin nodded his head.

"Alright get us some of those lettuce wraps, Some sweet rolls, Four mugs of light ale and a bowl of water for the lovely lady". Simon told the creature who ran to fetch the things.

Simon was about to converse more with the pointy eared man when the headmaster came with news. Afterward, he listened with interest as the young border man talked about his father "And i'm sure you must be so proud. With border man ingenuity we can crush those flesh eaters and their insane queen." he raised the mug of water he had "To Ulrich Ulmarc and to the brave men and women holding the line" He toasted to his table.

Coro- Dining hall

When the land of stalian was mentioned coro thought back to her home Deepwood and how there was a civil war due to the queen's corruption. Anger quickly consumes coro feeling the urge to destroy something coro abruptly gets up and heads back to the training room without saying a word.

Simon - Dining Hall

Simons cherry expression faded as Coro left in a huff "I'll be right back." before he left he turned to the pale Verdant "You seem like a wonderful fellow I hope to see you and your interesting friend again." That last comment Simon gestured at Valdric.

Simon - Dueling Hall

The death mage followed his wolf eared companion into the Dueling hall where she looked frustrated and angry. The mask of charm and personality he wore melted which made Simon feel a little vulnerable "You ok Coro, something you need to get off your chest?"

Coro- Dueling hall

Coro paces around the dueling hall seething with anger. "No im not ok!" Coro punches a nearby stone wall. "Its that bitch fault my home is killing itself slowly" Another punch "She's the reason why im thought of as a monster!" Another punch. "So many people are dieing because of her!" Another punch. There is a small hole within the wall and a few pieces fell off. "And im to weak to do anything about it..." Coro slides down the now damaged wall tears streaming down her cheeks.

Simon - Dueling Hall

With a solemn look Simon walked over to her "Yeah this whole war's been pretty fucked even from the start. A woman decided to I wonder what would happen if I magic some animals, The same woman that tortures dozens of innocent people every day is probably the only thing keeping the nationalist and slightly xenophobic countries from killing each other" Simon gave a defeated sigh "It sucks" he then put a hand on her shoulder and smiled "If it makes you feel any better this school is basically filled with actual monsters so I doubt a wolf girl that turns into a tree spirit is too out of place." Simon tried his best to elevate the mood "Besides you just destroyed a wall with your fist I doubt you can be called weak"

Coro - Dueling hall

Coro sadly shakes her head at simons attempt to comfort her. "Your wrong about that the others they are so beautiful and pure unlike me Ive been corrupted its disgusting what its turned me into this... monster"

Simon - Dueling Hall

With a scoff Simon spoke "Holy hell I don't want to sound unsympathetic but don't you think you're being a bit too mellow dramatic." he then sighed "Shit maybe that was a bit dickish and I don't know the full story but from what i've seen you're a pretty decent person. I just don't understand why you would think yourself a monster when you've proven otherwise so many times?!"

"Oh, uh, thank you. I picked it up a while ago in a bit of a bad condition and managed to find someone who could clean it up and repair it for me. Nice, don't you think?" Elise smiled sweetly, raising her arms into the air, allowing her wingspan to reach out as far as they could as well as giving full view of the jacket. "I've never really thought about my hair or eyes, don't remember my parents much at all really.." she sighed, pondering if they knew how beastmen where created, and what they had been created for.

"War? I think I've had enough fighting... and war isn't something you should brag about." The tall bird grumbled, a distinct amount of agitation and a slight amount of anger in her tone, her face becoming slightly more severe at the prospect of fighting.

Coro- Dueling Hall

Coro smiles at simon and quickly gives him a bone crushing hug. "im sorry your right... as always" Coro looks over at the damage she had done to the wall her smile turning into a goofy grin "Still want me to fight you seriously?"

Simon - Dueling Hall

"Sure why not." Simon shrugged then went into a boxer's stance.

Valdric Anders - Dining Hall

"Really? Were you an urchin or something? Spent your youth as a gladiator or soldier of fortune?" Valdric joked. "We're going to march into the Mad Queen's territories and grant her judgement for all the evil she's done throughout the millennia." He added, clearly oblivious of Elise's feelings.

Alavin - Dining Hall

Alavin's face darkened slightly at the mention of war. He'd hoped he'd seen enough of that kind of conflict back home. People still hated the Verdants for what they'd done to the Wastelanders. It really made it awfully difficult to interact with people when they were scared of you or hated your race for political reasons. It was fair enough, but Alavin took great care to remain politically neutral. A war made that somehow rather difficult. He was far more interested in everyone's reactions to the event than the event itself.
The headmaster, for instance. He was intrigued by the man. He was obviously powerful, and involved in great things. To get to where he was, he had to have forged quite a path. He'd love to see how he got there. He made plans to go read up on the Headmaster in the library, or just ask someone who knew more than he did, if the opportunity presented itself.
Simon, however, who seemed like a man devoted to keeping things easy-going, was more than happy to toast the war with their newly procured ales. Alavin took the toast to be polite, but before much more could happen, Simon's silent companion went stiff and vanished. Beastman. He had no doubts she had some history with war. Most of them tended to. Simon's eyes went sad for a moment, and he quickly turned to follow her. He paused for long enough to hope to meet Alavin again. Alavin merely nodded. "I'll be sure to come and find you once we start getting lost," he promised as the older student left. Alavin turned to Elise beside him. She surely had history as well.
The moment of brightness she had had unfurling her wings and showing off her jacket immediately dampened. Valdric as always seemed more than excited at the prospect of war. Unsurprising if his father was a warman. Most bordermen liked to show off their family. Alavin suspected Elise had a different experience of war.
Alavin nodded. "I tend to agree with you, Elise." He nodded at Valdric. "I'm sure your father will be an asset to the cause. But I personally hope the fighting doesn't get any closer to us than it is now. If I am called upon to fight, then so be it, but I feel most people here have had enough of fighting to last them a lifetime."
His eyes flicked up to the door where the two older students had left. "I think if it comes to that though, I will have to go back to the Verdanthome. This melting pot will turn back into factions. Personally, I'm not done making new connections yet." He held up his own ale in a toast. "To new friendships," he offered. "And hoping the war stays away long enough for us to make them."

Coro- Dueling hall

"oh... kinda thought you would say no after that... well ok then" Coro suddenly starts throwing a flurry of punches of course still holding back so she doesn't hurt him to badly.

Simon - Dueling Hall

Simon watched as Coro flailed wildly at him. Taken by surprise at the wild attacks the death mage took a punch to the face then to the stomach before he shouldered into Coro. Instead of making impact with her however Simon turned translucent and appeared behind her with a short ghostly stick smacking her at the back of the knee before taking a few steps back. The small baton-like stick then turned into a six-foot pole which Simon raised to keep her at bay.

Elise Carstaires Von Kleine - Dining Hall

The borderman's words struck a chord with Elise, her heart was pounding with rage and her body seemed to tense up briefly before she gave a loud, animalistic and very evidentially angry caw. Like a bird itself and decided to waltz into the dining hall, yet loud enough to fill the room, attracting the eyes of those around. "You know nothing of which you speak." She hissed bitterly "War is death, your father is lucky to be alive, as am I. I suppose I was a gladiator of sorts, but not by my own choice, I had to fight and kill beastmen like myself, or be killed on the spot for not being entertaining enough for that 'Queen'" she said, anger raging through her mind as she scolded him before folding her wings across her chest, turning her head away from the small man and closing her eyes, shutting her mouth and preparing for silence. Ignoring the attempt at a toast made by Alavin and rather unhappy about the whole conversation that had just occured. Elise's outbursts weren't often as she wasn't exactly an explosive person, but war brought out the worst in her.

Coro-Dueling hall

Coro steps back getting outside the range of the long poll. "thats neat... kinda annoying but neat." Coro points her palm at simon and a long thorny vine erupts from it smacking him in the face. Coro twirls the whip like vine around and continues the attack simon with it.

Simon - Dueling Hall

Again surprised Simon jumped back to touch his face. His fingers covered with his blood Simon smiled "That was savage." before another set of attacks came from the wolf girl. Simon knowing about it now leaned or away stepped when he could see her reel up for an attack. The dance went on for only a few minutes when Simon pulled a knife from his belt. When he saw a slow horizontal strike he instead of moving backwards took a step forward then blocked it with his right forearm. A huge smile ran across Simon's face as his complete right arm was covered in ghostly armor. He pulled the vine taut with his arm then cut it with the knife.

The armor disappeared "Finally playing for real huh." Simon chuckled before launching a volley of weak bolts at her and jogging slowly around her.

Coro-dueling hall

Coro creates a thorny wall made of roots and other plant material to block the bolts and then starts to manipulate parts of the wall to lash out at simon acting like multiple thorny whips. "yup you finally got your wish happy now?"
