Mina - The Sanctuary
The two traders looked on with awe as Xena did her work. "We brought her here as quickly as we could," one of them explained to no one in particular after the healer suddenly left. "Found her out in Oblitus in the middle of the desert. Had no idea what she was doing out there all by herself, but the way she was going on and on about the Daemon's Cradle and 'saving the world' we thought for sure the scorpions had gotten to her." The man shook his head ruefully. "But since it looks like she's going to be alright I guess we'll leave now." The other man glanced at his companion and muttered, "The rest of the group was not pleased with this little detour."

With that, the two traders moved to leave, talking between themselves.

"We should have just left her out there. We've wasted too much time already."

"Well we couldn't very well just leave her to die alone in the desert, could we?"

"Well someone else obviously did. Maybe there's a reason for that..."

Maric Vakarian - Sanctuary

Legion's comments made him angry, angrier then he'd been in a long time. He kept himself stone faced, not giving that monster the satisfaction of seeing him angry, but he gripped the counter he was leaning on so hard, he was surprised cracks didn't start forming from the pressure he put upon it. His mind was a blur, lost in his own thoughts as the world seemed to advance without him. He registered the girl's words, and the new patient who was near death, but he didn't react.

That damn daemon! I'll make sure it's time reborn on Terrestria is short lived. He thought to himself, a sadistic smile on his face. If draining Wroth wont give me the satisfaction of killing you, Legion, the I'll wait. I shall wait the day and a half that's left for you to return, and then when you finally come back, I will latch onto you and wont let go until you're completely dry, or I'm full up on energy... for once. Then, you will die, as pathetic as you were all those years ago, as pathetic as you are now, and I will love every minute of it.

As he broke from his internal thoughts, he looked around. He hadn't even noticed that Xena and the traders had left the room. It was just him, Zaraa, and the unconscious girl. Since the new girl was resting and Xena was gone, he took the opportunity to speak his mind. "Another toy of Lucifer's eh? If that little episode you had earlier was him sharing his pain with you, then darling, he treats you like shit."

He laughed as he drew closer to her. "Regardless, he must still find you useful if he's keeping you around, but if you want my advice, keep searching for a way to free your soul. Lucifer will get bored of you eventually, and when he throws away his toys, he tends to like breaking them beyond repair. It's what he tried to do to us." His voice taking a somber tone at that last line before returning to his confident smirk. "Regardless, you seem to be doing fine, so why don't you get out of here? Last thing I wanna do is kill such a pretty face for being a bad girl." He said before turning on his heel and waiting for Xena out in the main hallway as she helped her apparently inebriated manservant.

Zaraa didn't say anything to Xena's comment. She watched silently as the healer approached the new patient and in that moment, she made it her cue to leave. There was nothing left for her to do around in the Sanctuary. Zaraa was about to go when a man stopped her in her tracks. She felt her muscles tense as he began to speak.

I'm not a toy, you foolish child. He has given me life. I felt nothing.

The moment he left, she followed silently after him, into the main hallway and without even thinking, she unleashed her weapon and using her supernatural speed and reflexes, proceeded to stab him in the chest, put her weapon back in its holster, then teleport far away from the Sanctuary.

Before he could even lean against the wall to admire Xena's beauty, Zaraa showed up next to him. He was confused as to what she did because her hand moved so fast, but as the pain hit and he felt himself immediately start coughing up blood, he knew. She'd punctured his lung with her blade and as she disappeared he crumpled to the ground, desperately trying to cough out the blood so he could breath. He reached his hand toward the garden, desperately trying to grasp Xena's hand.

When they came back from the garden, Xena was not expecting at all the scene that greeted them. Maric, down on the ground, gasping for air as blood painted the floor of the Sanctuary. The woman, Zaraa was nowhere to be found. Even Errol, who professed his intention of murdering the guy looked shocked. It took her a second to recover, and when she did she felt anger seething through her being. "Errol, help me." she immediately said as she rushed over towards Maric, looking incredibly worried as she immediately closed her eyes to heal him. The wound was big, but it was slowly closing... he lost so much blood... "Maric, stay with me." she said with a shaky breath, as Errol appeared beside her, giving her the bandages she needed to stop the bleeding while the wound was healing itself. Even while drunk, he was reliable, albeit a little clumsy on his physical movements. She took the bandages and wrapped them about his chest, heaving him to the bed with Errol's help. She could feel some tears forming on the side of her eyes, but as soon as Maric seemed to be in a better condition, she took his hand, closed her eyes and pressed it on her cheeks. "You'll be fine... you'll be fine." she said soothingly, more to help her calm down than to reassure him. She took a deep breath, leaning down and kissing him right then and there, and when she pulled back, a hatred as cold as ice seemed to emanate from her, as she glanced outside.

"I'll kill her." she said it as if it was a fact, the same way the sky is blue and fire is hot. I'll kill her. It was less a threat than it was a promise.

Maric started fading out of consciousness by the time Xena had begun closing the wound. Once it was completely sealed, he let out a large gasp for air, and his body was most appreciative when the air entered into him. He was limp and out of it for the entirety of Xena and Errol heaving him onto the bed, barely aware of what was happening around him. His eyes slowly began to flutter open as he felt the all too familiar sensation of her lips on his.

He reached weakly and found her hand, squeezing it gently, he barely heard her last words, but he knew what they meant. "Kill her after we've dealt with legion, love." He said before entering a coughing fit, his throat hoarse from all the blood he vomited up. He prayed to Aditi that his beloved would get him some water, but all he wanted to do was rest right now. He fought to keep his eyes open long enough to take a drink.

She nodded, but her anger and worry seemed to become worse when he coughed up more blood, her hand tightening in his, and it was then that she felt Errol walk towards them. With a frown, he placed a glass of water on the bedside table, which surprised her as she looked up at him, murmuring. "What..." but he did not reply, just walking towards other patient and checking her temperature, before taking out a blanket and tucking her in.

She felt a smile emerge from her lips. Errol may still not look like he trusted Maric, but that was a start. She took the glass of water, helping Maric up. "Here. This will help. Drink, love---" she paused abruptly. blushing in her slip of the tongue. She was still not that used to saying it. Perhaps someday she will. She kissed his forehead once he finished his drink. "Take some rest. You need it. I'll be here when you wake up."

He felt much better after drinking the water that Errol had given him. His eyes widened as he heard Xena call him love, recalling her words from their confessions earlier today. Is it too early to say I love you too, I don't know. So to hear her say those words now, made his heart soar. She moved to part after kissing his forehead, but he stopped her, bringing her close again. He looked into her eyes, tears welling up. "You called me, love." He said, genuine elation in his voice.

She smiled sheepishly at him, playing a little bit shyly with her hair. That expression on his face almost melted her heart. "I'll get used to it. Slowly, okay?" she replied, as she poked at his nose a little. "That's why... please be patient with me. Now go to sleep. Doctor's orders."

With a giant smile on his face, he closed his eyes... and fell asleep.

Mina - The Sanctuary
Mina started mumbling something in her sleep, although it was impossible to make out what she was saying. Suddenly, she gasped, her eyes popping open. I'm dead I'm dead I'm dead I'm... Not... Dead? She blinked, her eyes finally coming into focus. I'm not dead. Mina glanced down only to see a man there, apparently... Tucking her in? What? Where am I?

She tried to say something, but all that came out was a harsh cough.

The alcohol has strange effects on the body, apparently. Like the clumsiness, the loss of inhibition, but he was glad that while he has retained some of these effects, he still makes sense for the most part. He indeed hated the incubus, it seems as though his appearance has been the cause of all these ruckus with Wroth and Xena and his friend orc--- in a way, he blamed him for all the hurt and stress he was now feeling. But seeing him and Xena interact like lovers for the very first time... he felt a small strange feeling inside of him. He could see it in their eyes, the love and affection. No matter how fucked up things had been, that look on the incubus's face when she slipped and called him love... it was priceless. It was sincere. He did love her. So much. And it makes him... uncomfortable.

Was it jealousy? No way. He felt genuinely happy for Xena to have found love, to see that sparkle in her eyes for the first time. She always just used to care about other people, she never did much for herself and to see her like this, smiling next to the person she loved, it made him feel so happy for her. Rather than jealousy, perhaps it was envy. I'll live, then I'll die. People like me are forever alone, and I can live with that. he told Durbul. But thinking about it now, who knew the thought of being alone can be so... lonely. "Tch." he sounded under his breath. What's up with him, thinking all these unnecessary thoughts? He took out a blanket and tucked their other patient in, but even then his thoughts were muddled with things that was not related to work. He sighed. He wanted to grab a drink again... Xena won't like that.

A cough pulled him out of his train of thoughts, and he realized other other patient is now awake. He stared at her for a moment, a little clueless on what to do, but then he gave her a small smile. "How do you feel? Would you like some water?" he asked.

Mina - The Sanctuary
Mina sat up wearily before replying. Well, attempting to reply. "Water would probably be good," she managed to wheeze. Her throat felt like someone had taken sandpaper to it, then drowned it in vinegar. She hadn't had a drop of water since she'd left Abaddon, which was... How long ago was that? Where even was she?

Mina looked around, only to see that she was in some kind of clinic. Wait, no. The clinic. She was at the Sanctuary. The girl suppressed a sigh (mostly because it would only hurt her throat more). She'd only been here once before, and it wasn't for herself, so this was a new experience for her. So she was back in Abaddon. Back to square one. Out to save the world only to fail right at the outset because she couldn't cut it. But at least you're not dead, she tried to think optimistically. Mina tried to ignore the creeping feeling of resentment when she realized that the others must have abandoned her, but really, she couldn't blame them. She would have done the same thing. Drop the dead weight, right? Or, well... Not-so-dead weight. It was stupid to even try...

Errol left the patient's side to get a glass of water, glancing at Xena who had fallen asleep clutching her lover's hands She seemed to have gone through a lot in these past few hours, so he decided to let her be. It would be nice to take a rest too... his head has started throbbing if he'll be honest, but there was work to do. At least until this other patient falls asleep again... He walked towards her, with the tray of water and medicine for her sore throat. He had no idea what happened to her, no idea what Xena healed on her, but looking at her now, he realized how dejected she looked, a ghost of resentment and regret in her expression. He knew the expression well, it was how he felt earlier when Xena and the others practically threw him and Durbul out of the Sanctuary as if they weren't needed. As if they can do nothing to help. He was usually not the type to pry. His motto has always been: Mind your own business. But for some reason he felt compelled to ask.

"Is something the matter? You..." he hesitated as he placed the tray down on the bedside table. "You look... downcast." Realizing he might have stepped out of line, he changed the subject almost immediately, hovering the glass of water in front of her. "Can you hold this? Drink some, and then you can take your medicine..." he said, as he sat on the chair next to her bed.

Mina - The Sanctuary
As soon as the man presented the glass of water to her, Mina took it from him and gulped it down greedily. It was only a few seconds until the glass was empty as she relished the cool, soothing feeling on her throat. She rested the glass in her lap with a satisfied sigh. Mina looked back at the man and gave him a ghost of a smile.

"Downcast? I suppose I am..." Mina looked back at the glass, her smile fading again, though her voice was returning to normal. "Last I knew, I was wandering in the desert because I got into my head that I could be some kind of hero and find the Daemon's Cradle with the rest of the group. But then I got lost, because apparantly sandstorms are very hard to see in, and sand actually hurts a lot when it's moving at a few hundred miles an hour. Anyway, when I woke up I was alone, had no water, no food, and the others were nowhere to be seen; just me and the sand." Mina turned the glass over in her hand as her eyes narrowed. "I guess part of me hoped they would come back for me, but you know Envoys, they never really care about anyone anyway. I don't know how I ended up here, but I do know that I don't have the Daemon's Cradle and that I don't see any Envoys around, so clearly they never came back and I just got lucky some other way." Mina scoffed before looking back at the man with a grim smile. "Needless to say, I don't think I'll be going to the beach anytime soon."

As was usually the case with her, when Mina got talking she couldn't stop until she'd cleared her mind, regardless of the poor unfortunate victims that were forced to listen to her until she was done. And, as was usually the case with her, Mina didn't even realize she'd probably said too much until it was too late to take the words back. Realizing it now, she closed her eyes and sighed, running her fingers through her short, silver hair. "Sorry, that probably didn't make much sense. Though to be fair, I was wandering in the desert for at least two days." She laughed humorlessly before opening her eyes again to reveal a storm of emotions going on inside.

As soon as she started talking, Errol blinked in surprise. Her words came out in a torrent, he was not expecting that at all, and yet as she ranted and he listened he could not help but make an amused smile at her openness, telling all these things to a complete stranger. Well, she seems to be an energetic person, that's interesting. "I see." he gazed at the medicine and on her empty glass, taking it from her hands. "Well, since you need water to swallow these, I'll get you another glass." he replied as he stood up. "You say you've been in the desert for two days? Without food? I..." he hesitated. This was the first time he had actually tried talking to a patient, as it was usually Xena who interacted more with them. But she's asleep, and this girl needs nourishment so... "I believe we have some scones here, and I could prepare you some tea to help your body get used to food again. We don't have anything else but, would that suffice? You must be hungry." he muttered.

Mina - The Sanctuary
Mina's eyes brightened at the offer of food, and she looked up at the man with a humorous smile. "Scones? Well now you're just spoiling me."

The man must not have been much of a talker, based on the awkwardness of his reply. It didn't bother Mina though; the quiet ones were always the most interesting in her opinion. They were puzzles to solve. A few well-placed questions and friendly smiles, and she always got them talking eventually. Unable to resist the allure of another challenge, she rested an elbow on one of her knees, leaning forward to prop her chin on her hand. "You must be the one who patched me up then," she said, looking at him with interest.

He made a small polite smile. "No, save the gratitude for the Mistress of the Sanctuary. Although she is asleep right now..." he said as he motioned to Xena. "She had a rough day. I can never really do much healing, the only thing I can do is assist and support."

He went to the counter and prepared the food, the tea, as well as the water. It took him a while to prepare the tea, and as he made it, he realized he probably needed the food too to settle this stomach, and over time he was starting to feel a little sleepy as well. He couldn't have drunk that much, right...? He could not remember how many ciders exactly him and Durbul gulped down. He hoped he did not reek of alcohol. Well, Xena said he did, but she has nose of a vampire so...

He stumbled a little as he lifted up the tray and walked back to the patient, placing the food and pouring her some tea. "Here." he said, as he give her a cup, taking one for himself as well as he drank it. Hmm... not as good as the ones Xena prepares, but good enough. He sat on the seat beside the bed again, feeling a little awkward. There's no reason for him to keep talking. But as he saw her take the scones and eat it, a thought nagged at him, and finally he asked, as he stared at his hands clutching the cup of tea. "How does it taste?"

Mina watched as the man stumbled while he was preparing the tea, and she quirked an eyebrow. Is he drunk? she wondered. He did smell faintly of alcohol... You know what, it's probably better if I don't know, she decided. Instead, she smiled sweetly when he returned and handed her the cup of tea. She was famished, so she didn't really stand on formalities as soon as the food was given to her; she shoved the whole scone in her mouth. Mina looked up in slight alarm when he asked her how it tasted, suddenly feeling a little self-conscious about being the subject of attention.

"Like heaven itself was condensed into the form of a scone," she mumbled around the food.

He made a small doubtful look, but his lips were grinning, watching her as she ate in an unladylike manner. "Are you sure you're not just biased because its the first food you've had in a while? I..." he hesitated and looked away, almost shyly, but not quite. "I made it, so I just wanted to know." he said as he poured himself another cup of tea, drinking it and leaning a little on the bedside table as he felt himself get more and more sleepy.

Mina - The Sanctuary
Mina waited to reply this time until she finished swallowing the food in her mouth. "Oh, I'm biased alright. Honestly, horse manure would probably taste good to me right now. But that doesn't mean it tastes bad on a normal day," she replied nonchalantly. She drank some of her tea before giving him a cheeky grin. "Ask me again when I'm not starving."

The tea and food had helped to clear her cluttered mind, and yes, it was nice to just have a chat with someone for once. She blinked, realizing that she didn't even know the man's name. "I'm Mina, by the way," she said suddenly. "I always seem to forget to introduce myself... Though in this case, I think I have a pretty good excuse, seeing as how I was unconscious when we first met."
