The Vampire's Apprentice

She did a half-curtsey in return and followed him out, almost bouncing as she walked. "Just think!" Kitty said, walking backwards for a few steps to look at him. "By tonight, we'll be someplace to call home for the next few years."

Norville thought back. "Eleven months," he said decisively. "I can remember eleven months. I think when I was little we lived somewhere for longer, but I don't think that counts."

She slowed her pace to match his. "Does't seem like a very long time at all. D'ya think we can break that record?"

She giggled. "About seventeen years. I've never really moved anywhere... kinda. Besides visiting relatives and such."

"Well, we probably won't be breaking your record!" Norville said, slowing as they approached their motel room. "I'm not sure Clancy could stay in one place that long."

"I don't think he would, either." Kitty opened the door to their room. "It's definitely far too long to live somewhere."

Sam greeted them with a gruff and trotted over eagerly.
"Hey, buddy! Ready to go for another ride?" Norville grinned.
"Ruff!" Sam agreed.
"Let me grab my stuff, then," Norville said, checking the bathroom on his way to his side of the room.

Sam was being excited and bouncing around the car as they loaded it up. He wanted to play! Norville ignored him, leaving him to Kitty as he got in the car.

"Sam!" Kitty told him, a smirk to her face despite best efforts to be serious. "We're not playing right now! We're driving."

Sam backed and dropped on his forelegs, his butt wiggling in the air, inviting her to play. Then he bounced in a circle and ended up tripping over himself. He fell, rolled, and got back on his paws. He looked a little dazed but shook himself like nothing happened.
