The Vampire's Apprentice

"I shall be happy to comply with such a request," Clancy assured her with another little smile. "And please do keep Sam nearby. He is a good dog. If smelly."
Sam's butchered ears twitched and he looked up at the sound of his name.

She snickered. "Indeed."
Kitty picked up her notepad and book, then moved to head upstairs, waving at him before disappearing. This was a good night, despite the other things going on around her. She clung to that happiness until the point when she finally fell asleep.

Clancy watched as the Kitty and her dog disappeared upstairs. "Good girl, Kitten," he whispered. He wished they could spend more time together, but with the shortening hours of the summer nights, it was difficult to spend more than a few minutes with her before she needed to sleep. Soon summer would fade, and winter with its long hours would return.

With a sigh, he settled his hat on his head and headed out. For now, he had a "date" to attend.

The next morning, a DVD waited on the kitchen table. Nosferatu, the original vampire movie of horror. Staring Count Orlaf.

((Orlok?))

Kitty picked up the case, observing it. When was the last time she remembered watching a movie? An even better question, the last time she recalled wanting to.

Okay, now she wanted to. Curiosity was killing her if not becoming completely unbearable.

Approximately 94 minutes of silence later, Kitty had more questions than she ever thought possible. How many more hours until evening? If the previous curiosity for the character wasn't enough, it was madness to not to have a Clancy to answer her inquiries. But she did remember, he had a meeting that night. There was a chance she might have to wait; even more so due to the fact that she had far more than three things to ask.

((Yes, I apologize. It's been a while since I've thought about him and I got his name crooked.))

Sam was tired of waiting in silence. He barked at the door, wanting out. It was play time!

Sam romped around the yard, begging her to play. He got distracted when his two favorite little people suddenly came pelting over.
"Sam!" the twins yelled.

"Good!" JC said, playing tug with the dog. Sam still wouldn't fetch for them, but he loved tug!
"School is boring," JP complained.
"But Norville is coming home tomorrow!"
"We've missed him."

"EJ is being weird," JP said as JC attempted to throw Sam's toy. Sam watched it go then stared at the girl, bewildered.
"Mum's sad and stressed out, but she's okay," JC sighed as she went to fetch the toy herself.

The twins stretched out their playtime by two extra minutes until Mrs. Mooney's voice cut through the evening air. Pouting, they trotted back home.
Sam brought his toy to Kitty and looked at her expectantly.

She chuckled, snagging the toy and tossing it across the yard. After a while, she went back inside to start on a list of places she might consider living, waiting for either something interesting to happen, or night to fall.

Nothing else interesting did happen, and Clancy made his appearance as usual, but he did not speak to her until he'd dressed and brushed his hair. His hat sat at a jaunty angle, and he looked better than he had since before his fight.

"Miss Kitty!" He called, straightening a white tie. "Does this tie match? It is new, and I am not certain I like the texture of the fabric."

Kitty materialized in the living room after a moment and looked him over. "You'd look good in anything, though I'd advise something a little darker than white. The contrast isn't very helpful towards your pale skin."

Clancy lifted the end of his tie to look at it better and clicked his tongue in irritation. "Will ivory do?" he asked, already undoing the tie and walking back toward his bedroom.

"Perhaps, if it isn't stark against your skin tone. It should be better." She replied, following for a few steps before stopping in the hallway. "Who is it you're going to meet, anyways? Sounds important."
