The Vampire's Apprentice

Clancy looked at Norville, who cringed slightly. Norville was nowhere near as comfortable as Kitty was with Clancy. "I see. Is it time for your cast to be removed?"
"Um. They were going to remove it today. That's why we were talking about it," Norville mumbled.
"Hmm." Clancy looked at Kitty. "And you don't think I would?"

Clancy turned his gaze to Norville. "Are you certain it is time to remove it?"
"Yes, sir," Norville said.
Clancy gave a nod. "Very well, then. Kitty, grab those plastic sacks, please, and both of you follow me." He turned and started walking to the door.

She did not dally, but retrieved the bags and followed, making sure Norville was with her and Sam was alright where he lay.

Sam rolled over to watch as they left but did not attempt to follow, for once. His paws were tired.

Norville followed nervously as they walked out of the motel and went out to the back parking lot. Clancy looked around and moved to where the cameras did not cover directly against the wall. He turned to Kitty and Norville.

"Please hold your arm out, Norville. Kitty, hold the bag under his arm," Clancy directed.

Back lots always carried a spooky vibe, and Kitty, though she was brave, felt the eerie aura. As for the bag... certainly there were stranger things she'd been asked to do.

"Excellent," Clancy said once they were in place. He held up his own hand, and the nail on the forefinger grew into something closer resembling a claw. "Hold still."
Norville glanced at Kitty nervously then Clancy. "Sir, are you going to chop off my arm?"
Clancy paused. "Seriously? What good are you to me with only one arm? I might as well skip the trouble and leave you in your cast."

Kitty bit at her lip to keep from laughing. She said nothing, however. Better to let them get used to each other than interfere, she supposed.

"Oh... right..." Norville mumbled.
Clancy sighed as he took hold of Norville's cast. "Perhaps you should go back on the pot. You seemed to think better when high." He slashed with his nail. He didn't appear to judge, didn't measure, just ran his nail along the cast lengthwise like someone running a hot knife through warm butter.
Norville yelped and jerked back. Then he realized he couldn't feel anything. Clancy's nail hadn't touched him. "Oh. I'm fine. Sorry."
Clancy rolled his eyes and took back the cast. Pieces of the plaster had flaked off at the cut, and even now was crumbling into the sack Kitty held. He cut the other side, moving a little more slowly and carefully along Norville's thumb then pried it off amid more plastery snow. He placed the cast in the bag. "There we are."

Norville cautiously rotated his wrist then grinned. "Nice! I have my arm back!" He promptly began rubbing his arm vigorously to get at all the itchy spots. "Ahhhhhhh!!!!"
"Perhaps it is time to go inside?" Clancy suggested, amused.

"So you did get a goat? Oh, good. I have been feeling a bit peckish and could use a snack," Clancy said mildly as he walked toward the motel.
Norville followed, not really paying attention as he rubbed his arm.

Kitty chuckled, trailing after him. There was a noticeable skip to her step. "We went to see the Independence Historical Park, too! Most of the things were closed, but the courtyard was neat!"

"Oh, did you?" Clancy asked with some interest. "Now that would be interesting to see. It is too bad everything was closed."

"Norville and I took pictures." Kitty turned to walk backwards for a moment, looking to Norville, then spun around so as not to trip on anything. "We might go again in the morning and finish where we left off."

"That's a good idea," Clancy nodded. "I will be taking the car this evening and going to explore something, myself. I will fill it up on my way back."
