Flames From the Past (1x1)

Monica found herself enjoying this group of people so much. She had kept to herself so often and kept people at a distance that she began to wonder why she ever did that.

The food smelled wonderful and she savored every bite she took, enjoying it.

Dustin smiled at Monica tilting his head to the side, "I hope you like your meal," He told her gently. He could see easily by the look on her face that she was.

Molly and Emma chatted a little among themselves mostly about some guy name Ryan.

She smiles to Dustin and nods softly. "It tastes amazing. " She replied before returning to eating. She ate until her belly couldn't handle any more.

Licking her lips, she sat back in her chair. "That was amazing." She said again.

Dustin was quite pleased by this as he gave a nod slowly finishing his own meal. Molly and Emma were still chattering quite a bit, "They are like this all the time when they get into the same room," He told Monica softly, "They really enjoy being around each other though they are terrified to admit their feelings towards the other."

Monica nods softly as she looks over at the two women. She didn't try to ease drop on the conversation they were having and looked up at Dustin curiously. "Why don't they admit it to each other? Their energy and body language says a lot but hearing the words is nice as well."

He glanced at her, "Molly is immortal. She doesn't want to change Emma into what she is. If she did it would likely change the way they view each other. They wouldn't be equals but more Sire and Child. Molly knows what that does to the younger one and doesn't wish that on Emma. Emma understands this and doesn't push to become immortal. They also don't know if what they feel is simply momentary."

Dustin smiled softly, "It's a complex situation."

Monica nods softly ,now understanding a bit better what exactly it was that made it hard for the two women to become open with each other.

She rubs her wrists a little, they felt like they were itchy all of a sudden. Rubbing at them a little more, she wasn't aware of the fact she was doing it at all.

Dustin glanced at her scratching her wrists, "Something wrong?" he asked softly as he tilted his head to the side. The two women continued to chatter soft to themselves.

She blinks a bit and looks up at Dustin then to her wrists where she was still scratching them.

Stopping she shakes her head a little. "I'm not sure. They just started to inch." She replied then shakes her head. "Probably nothing. I'm gonna use the restroom real quick. I'll be right back." She smiles softly then get up and heads that way once she figured out where the restrooms were.

Once in the restroom, she sighs a little and runs her fingers through her hair. Moving to the sink she splashes some water on her face.

She then looks to her wrists. What was going on? The itching had subsided a little. She shakes her head and looks at herself in the mirror.

Pushing her thoughts from her mind, she moved to leave the restroom and go back to the table.

Dustin glanced up slightly as he felt the shadow of something he didn't like, "Pay up for us, Emma. I'll be taking Monica home the long way. Something doesn't feel right," he stood and met Monica half way back to the table, "We need to be moving on," he murmured softly, "Next time tell me what it is."

The itching was a sign the demon was lurking near by. Would he attack or not was always suggestive.

She looks up when she saw Dustin already heading towards her. She nods slightly and followed after him.

"I'm sorry....I didn't know..." she says , her body tense as she followed after her. His body language and energy told her that something was wrong but she could only guess at what at the moment.

She glances to her wrists a little and fought the urge to itch at them. Could it really be the demon? The thought sent a tremble down her spine and she moved to be at Dustin's side.

Dustin patted her on the head, "It's fine I understand that," He gave her a gentle smile, "Just be wary of all things that are fire," giving a wink he lead her over to a bus stop, "We will be taking a short trip to the large forest on the outskirts of town. I happen to own a small hunting lodge out there. It might be to our advantage to call on the demon and make it clear you are under the protection of another rather than just avoiding him."

She hesitates a little then nods at his words. She could have done without the head petting but didn't say anything and kept to his side.

They were going to call on the demon? She didn't want to face that creature yet. There was no way she was ready to see the monster yet that had killed her parents. It made her wonder if she could wait in the other room while he did all that.

He found them a seat towards the back, "You should talk to me about what you are feeling. I can't help you if you don't tell me honestly."

She hesitates as he said those words. Biting her lip she said. "I don't know if I'm ready to see that demon again..." she shakes her head a little. "I know I'm not ready. He took everything from me and for the longest time I told myself he wasn't real..."

He pulls her to him, "It will be fine," he states, "I just need to find out more directly what he wants. The only way you can learn to push past what was done it to accept that it was simply inevitable."

Dustin knew his words were hard to swallow but they were the truth. Standing he pulled her to her feet as the bus came to a stop in front of his office. Getting off he navigated them over to the parking lot along the side of the building. Unlocking the door he opened the passenger side for Monica to get in, "Think of this as a vacation in which you will learn the world you have been pushed into."

His words stung but the truth always did. Something her father always said. Yes she would face the demon. She nods at his words but stayed quiet as they left the bus and made their way to his car.

A vacation? She manages a nervous smile at that. "Never been on vacation...." she gets into the car and settles into her seat.

In a matter of moment he got in on his side and tapped the start button. He enjoyed only having to carry the key around. His gaze danced over to her for a moment, "Well you will have many while you work with me," Dustin put the car int gear and eased out of the parking space before continuing out into traffic. They smoothly moved ouot of the city and out into the countryside. His cabin as he had called it, was short of being a log cabin mansion. Situtated on a mostly forested bit of property with signs that plainly stated private property.

The driveway alone was around a half a mile long. Parking the car he got out then hummed as he waited for Monica.
