How Green Becomes Wood

Dark was silent for a few moments, and Daizi asked him what was happening. Since she was at a distance, Ciara would've been able to hear her voice, but not her words. Then Dark asked, "What sort of event is it?"

"I see," Dark replied. Again, Daizi asked what the matter was. Briefly putting the phone on mute, Dark answered her.

"Well, you have to go," Daizi said, getting up and going over to him, "You're her only hope."

"You know how I feel about that sort of government," He said hesitantly.

"I also know how you feel about dressing up," Daizi replied, squeezing his arm, "It's black tie!"

"And I would have no hesitation if it was you and I, but it will be myself and an inordinate number of FBI agents."

"She's done so much for us," Daizi pointed out and that, at least, Dark couldn't argue against. He unmuted the phone and began to ask another question when Daizi spoke up and said, "Ciara, he would love to escort you."

"Thank you," Ciara said, taking Daizi's word completely at face value. "It is black tie, and I know you will easily be able to accomplish, but if you have any questions or need any examples of what is expected, I will be happy to send you that information. Would you prefer to meet at the event, or shall I pick you up?"

"I suppose I should ask how you want me to present myself," Dark said, choosing to not argue against Daizi answering for him since he knew he was likely going to agree anyway, "I do not wish to cause trouble for you."

Ciara considered this for a moment. "I believe the term is Speakeasy? A 1920's gentleman? But preferably one of good standing and not a criminal background, which does not coincide with a speakeasy, but that is the theme. Perhaps keep the dramatic flair down to a minimum." After a slight pause, she added, "Although a death's head of some sort would likely fit right in."

"Ah." Ciara thought about it for a moment. Then, with an audible shrug, she said, "Perhaps you have some sort of history, after all. Something deep in the past. You are at an FBI speakeasy, after all."

Ciara named a place that was a little out of the way for both of them. They could meet or go their individual ways. Either way would be equally easy or difficult. "I do not want to make you any more uncomfortable than you already will be."

"The risk of driving separately and arriving before you is a bigger cause of discomfort," Dark pointed out, then called something out in Arabic, holding the phone at a distance. Then he told her, "And I presume there will be valet parking, there is no sense in us both leaving a tip. I could pick you up."

"I'm fine with it," Daizi laughed, still sitting right by her husband. "You're already bringing him to a black tie event, driving together is nothing."

"You are welcome," Dark said, clicking his tongue at his wife, "There is something else, though, that we wanted to mention, since you are on the phone."

"Do you recall when you brought Alec sources for his assignment?" Dark asked, "It would seem he received a poor grade on it, and his teacher does not believe they are genuine, or if they are, that they had been doctored."

"We're scheduling a meeting with his teacher," Daizi added, "Not fully about that, but we were wondering if you would provide any proof that he actually does have an aunt in the FBI and he isn't making the whole thing up like he was accused of doing."

"I see," Ciara said, her tone cooling significantly. "Yes, I will be able to provide such proof. Would it be allowable for me to be present during this meeting? I will try not to make a nuisance of myself.
