How Green Becomes Wood

"Thank you," Dark nodded, setting the pumpkin down and picking his back up while Cooger stood and nodded to the twins.

"Y'all two want to help Daizi and me go sort the seeds from the guts?" He asked, scooping up Ivy in one arm.

"All the seeds," Cooger shrugged, "It ain't precious. Just fill the bowl of guts with water and sort out the seeds."

"I don't think anyone could mess it up, by next year Ivy will be able to help with it," Daizi said, picking up one of the pumpkin bowls.

"With or without eating guts and seeds along the way?" Xander asked mildly.

Alec filled the bowl with water and set it on the table along with a bunch of smaller bowls for the seeds. "Here we are! Time for our slime therapy!"

"By the time she's two?" Daizi asked as they went into the kitchen, "I think she'll be able to handle it."

"If you hated taking the guts out, this'll probably be worse, but you get to enjoy the seeds after," Cooger replied, setting Ivy down once they were in the kitchen to work.

"I remember plenty of two, three, and four-year-olds putting stuff they weren't supposed to," Xander remarked. "Maybe she won't like the taste. It's not like it could hurt her, anyway." He looked at the slime water and plunged his hand in without hesitation because if he thought about it, he wouldn't do it.

"Ugh,great," Alec moaned. He took a deep breath. "For the seeds!" he cried and stuck his hand in.

Alec "ew'ed" his way through the cleaning and sorting. To say he was not a fan was an understatement. Still, he worked hard and diligently to get all the seeds, every single one. Xander worked in silence and no further complaint, seeing no reason to since Alec had that part covered, and he was secretly in agreement.

When all the seeds were out, Daizi took over the next stage in preparation while Cooger privately collected all of the pumpkin insides, "It's a disgusting process, but you'll love them when they're ready," He told them. "Makes it worth it."

"Huh. Okay." Alec stood near the stove, watching.

Xander watched, too, though much less obviously. He sat down and leaned back in his chair. "Have you decided on a goat yet? Or not?" he asked Cooger.

"Eh," Cooger frowned, scooping Ivy back up and playing with her as they talked, "It's a hard decision 'cause it's a lotta work. I'd have to put up a shelter, I need to get more than one, and I don't feel much like breeding them so I wouldn't get milk or nothing. But I just think it'd be nice having 'em around."

"The problem is, if I got a troubled goat who hates the rest of goatdom, then I need to adopt a blind goat," He waved one of Ivy's hand to gesture, "And then they'll want to adopt two more goats with their own troubled pasts, and then I'll still end up with a kid."

"Yes, I'm sure history will completely repeat itself just like that. It makes complete sense that your goat life would mimic your human life with no alterations or paralel universe-style choices at all," Xander said with a nod.
