How Green Becomes Wood

"I will, thanks," Milo replied before ducking his head and heading towards the gym.

"I'm sure he will," Sloan said confidently, "My day has been fine. Nothing really worth mentioning happened."

"That's nice and calm, then," Alec said cheerfully.

Xander came over and sat down next to Alec. "Hey, Slo."

Alec turned to him. "Has the day finally come?"

"Milo worked up the courage to tell Becky that her attempts at trying to make friends with him was actually doing the opposite."

Alec winced. "Oh, poor Becky. No wonder she looked upset. But I guess I should also say 'good job, Milo,' for talking to her."

"I'll talk to her later," Alec promised. "She probably needs a bit to herself. I'm kind of sad that storyline didn't go anywhere. I thought they'd be cute."

"It would have been a disaster," Xander stated. "Crushing does not erase differences."

Alec made a face and shook his head. "You're probably right. I hope Milo is doing okay. I didn't think he had it in him, either, poor, sweet guy."

"Maybe if they were both older and had more time to cook," Sloan said, "Who knows, maybe they'll reconnect at your 10 year reunion, reminisce about how silly it all was, and then go out."

"Must have been rough to be a caveman, then," Xander remarked. "Needing to run out and do caveman stuff basically as soon as they could walk."

"Well, I hope that no matter what, all of our next relationships are drama free!" Alec stated. "I'd offer a toast, but all I have is a waterbottle."

"I think they actually lived longer than we think, it's just infants died all the time," Sloan said, trying to recall anything she knew about that far back, which wasn't much. "I hope they all only have the fun kind of drama."

"I can agree to that," Alec said.

"Count me out. I don't want any drama or any relationships," Xander said.

"Spoilsport," Alec said lightly. "I'm sure I'll have some drama around my relationships. I'm just that kind of person. I do hope it's the run kind, though."

"Oooo, good point," Alec nodded. "I like that argument."

Xander finished his lunch and stood. "I'm going to go. I'll catch you at class, okay?"

Alec nodded and saluted. "Go take care of him."

Xander grumbled and headed toward the gym.

Xander leaned over and looked inside. Milo looked at peace right now, calmer than he pretty much ever looked. Satisfied, he left Milo to his own devices and headed for his next class. The room was probably going to be empty. If the teacher was in, he'd sit out in the hall. If not, he'd find his usual seat. He didn't feel like going back to the cafeteria.

"Okay, this is creepy," Alec said, shedding his coat and touching the salt. "Hello?"

"We're home," Xander called, touching the salt and taking off his coat.

They walked through and went to the back door to see if they were outside.

They were, in fact, all outside. At that moment, Ivy was doing her best to throw Enkidu the ball like Xander had taught her, and Daizi was lying with her head in Dark's lap, but clearly talking animatedly, gesticulating with her hands in the air.
