How Green Becomes Wood

"I was just about to," Dark turned, a warmth Alec would be able to detect creeping back into his voice, "That looks beautiful, you did a wonderful job. Hm," He turned his head to the side, admiring its shape and colours, "It reminds me of your mother."

Alec smiled proudly. "I thought so, too! I probably shouldn't give it to you for her, but will you tell her I made a bouquet inspired by her?"

Tristan rolled out, smiling with a bit of pride at his student/employee's accomplishment and pride.

Tristan rang him up, giving him a generous discount as promised. He would have given every flower in the store to Dark if he'd asked, but he doubted Dark would actually appreciate that.

Noah watched over Tristan's shoulder, learning how to work the register.

"Do you want a card to go with it?" Tristan asked, handing Dark what looked a bit like a cardboard drink holder from a fast food joint, but it was designed to hold vases, not drinks.

"No thank you," Dark replied, paying in cash and leaving some extra in the tip jar out of respect to the floral artist who made the bouquet, "Handwriting alone is not enough to move her, so spoken words must suffice."

"Right, then," Noah said, rubbing his hands together. "Shelving things by color and checking for water. I can do that."

"Excellent," Tristan said with a smile as three young men came in nervously. "I'll leave you to that. If you have any questions, or if you receive any questions you cannot answer, send them to me. Alec, if you could please make a few more of the Huckleberry Magics, and then try your hand at something in the red family, and then in the yellow family."

"Yes, sir!" Alec said eagerly and hurried into the back to create more bouquets. This was great! He was being trusted to "invent" new arrangements!

Tristan stayed near the register, keeping an eye on things in general throughout the day, constantly going back to check on Alec and get supplies. Alec spent most of his time in the back making bouquets (new and standard), prepping flowers, and bringing anything Tristan needed to the front. Noah quietly went about doing most of the menial tasks Alec was normally tasked with like keeping the flower buckets filled, sweeping up the never-ending flow of petals and leaves, and answering whatever simple questions he could while always keeping a close eye on everyone that walked by or entered the shop. It was not an arrangement Tristan loved, but it was a necessary thing, and Noah seemed genuinely happy to have some kind of work. He'd not yet been able to find a job since being cleared by his doctor, and while he'd never have thought he'd end up in a flower shop, it was a nice place. Plus, him taking over most of Alec's tasks in the front released Alec to do a lot more bouquet building and experimenting. Everyone seemed to be winning.

Dark went home, stopping in the kitchen after petting his dog to put the flowers in a vase. Then he carried it upstairs to Daizi's study, knocking on her door. When she said he could come in, he found her working at her desk with Ivy in her lap.

"I brought you flowers, Spider," He told her, setting them on her desk. He took her hand, and after he kissed the back of it, he guided her to the bouquet, "Alec made it, and designed it too. It was inspired by you, and from the second I looked at it I saw you in it."

"It sounds like he did a good job, it smells wonderful," Daizi replied, feeling the delicate shape of the flowers, "I don't know if I should thank you or him."

"Both of us, in our time," Dark replied, and finding this agreeable she leaned forwards to kiss him, which made Ivy grumble as she was pressed slightly between her parents.
