Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Pepper stayed closer to the edge to avoid most of the crowd. Just as she was about to slip into thr passage leading to Mathias, someone pulled her into the crowd of people, her lantern falling to the ground

--

"Only know that Gray came to get Pepper to fix the engines. Not seen either of them since" he explained, taking a seat after everyone had a cup

Badru spun around, his eyes seeking Pepper. "Pepper? Pepper!" Something was wrong. He grabbed the lantern and lunged into the crowd after her. "Where?"

~~

"I wish I could have helped," Lynna groused. "If we can't help, can we at least look outside?"

"Badru!" Pepper called from somewhere in the crowed. But where? There were so many people.
Pepper leaned against the wall she had managed to get to. Everything had happened so fast. She'd got him off but he was still out there.

"Badru!" She called again riaising her free hand, the other pressed against her side

--

Mathias nodded "by all means..just don't let anyone see you"

Badru spotted her and charged forward, waving the lantern awkwardly as he tried to keep it from getting in the way. He reached Pepper and stood strong against the tide of people. "What happened?" he asked, noting her hand on her side. He started looking for an enemy, but there were too many people, and to him they all looked the same.

~~

Lynna grinned and all but ran for the door. "Where are the others supposed to gather?"

Blood was seeping through the cracks of her fingers "we need to get out of here" she could explain later. He was sure not to attack again with Badru there. So there was that.

--

"Near the weather tower" Mathias answered "be careful out there Lynna. People in a panic can be savages"

Badru scowled as he spotted the blood. He picked Pepper up without hesitation and held he securely as he marched forward toward Mathias. Mathias was a safe haven. He could give help.

Meanwhile, Gray was fighting to get out of the crowd. He had tried to stick to the shadows, but even the shadows were full. He felt like a leaf caught in a gale. He thought he spotted Badru, but he couldn't focus. It was all he could do to keep his feet.

~~

"Don't worry. I'm just taking a peak and then I'm back," Lynna promised as she moved to the door.

Pepper didn't object to him picking her up this time, she focused her attention on the wound and keeping pressure on it. Put of thr corner of her eyes she spotted Grays hair standing out out among the primary brown or blonde. "Badru..help Gray" she pointed him out

Badru turned to look where Pepper pointed then charged forward. He reached out and only just managed to grab Gray's arm. He pulled harder than he would have normally would have liked, but he was able to pull Gray out of the knot of people and into a less crowded area. Good grief, if he kept this up, he was going to be dragging a village to Mathias' door!

Gray clung to Badru's arm, gasping softly, his face lined with pain. He was all too willing to let Badru lead him toward Mathias' house. Anything to get away from the people!

Thankfully the rest of the way was pretty uneventful. The war clearing up whence they got away into the passage

Mathias got up when he heard the ladder go down again. Had to be Pepper. He hurried over and opened the hatch

Mathias quickly got Pepper up and helped her to the living room, laying her down "what happened Badru?" He asked as he quickly got the first aid kit. Not sure his first aid skills wete going to cut it but he had little choice but to do his best

Badru shook his head. "Not know. Someone pull her away into people. Then she is calling me for help."

Gray's eyes narrowed. He moved to where Pepper could see him. "Allen?"

Pepper nodded "I think so..." she winced as Mathias stuck a needle near the wound. He didn't like chemicals but the bleeding needed to stop and using this would clot it faster

Justira watched, hesitating. She could help but showing Gray was one thing...in front of all these people?

Gray nodded. He'd had enough. He looked at Mathias briefly then turned to Justira. "Look after her. I will be back." He walked away to the stairs. He had to move fast. Allen might have made it to the doors already, but that was unlikely with the rush of people. He had to find him.

Badru knelt at the end of the couch. "I can help?"

Mathias handed a bandage off to Badru and showed him where to put pressure "until bleeding stops" he said before rushing off to sterilize a needle and see if he could find some pain killers

Badru shifted to kneel next to Pepper and pressed her side firmly. He glanced at her then murmured, "Sorry."

~~

Gray found what was possibly the only quiet corner currently in Desolation and sat. He closed his eyes.
No good, too many distractions.
Focus, Gray, Focus!
Shadows. They whispered to him. They told him their secrets. They gave him voice, and he gave them guidance, but they also tried to take him. The darker shadows, the ones where men did evil deeds, the shadows remembered. The gentle shadows that gave peace and quiet, they remembered, but they were gentle and calm. Here in Desolation, there were far more of the former. He had to use them. He had to guard himself against them, but when he was one, oh, how he wanted to give them what they wanted! He'd fought it until now.
Until now.
Then he was in the shadows, listening, seeking, trying to find Allen.

Pepper winced but ahook her head "you did no wrong Badru" she said

--

Allen was among those still trying to get out. Satisfied with himself for the time being, none the wiser

(Feel free to kill him or whatever you wish)

"My job protect you. You not protected," Badru pointed out. "Did wrong. Sorry."

~~

There he was. The shadows found him. The shadows could find anyone faster than human eyes. Now to get him away. Get him away from the others.

Pepper's voice echoed from just around the corner. "What are you doing? Have to go!"

"It's alright Badru. Really" it was sweet he seemed to care though.

--

Allen paused and looked over, frowning. She should be bleeding out on the floor! He slipped out of the crowd to follow the voice

Badru didn't believe her, but at least she didn't hold it against him that he'd failed.

~~

"Can't move," Pepper's voice said, sounding weak and wavering. "Can't... Help?"

The shadows were dark, too dark to see much beyond a faint shape against the wall.
