Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Faelar nodded "all set" he had a stuffed bag as well as the wood box that had a handle to carry it by

--

Misty accepted the help up out of the hatch too, squinting against the light. The window fown there did dim it some now hit with the dull force..she had no idea the sun was this bright! Having always used tinted goggles

Lynna got them both by the door and turned off the light before opening the door. By memory, she stepped out and drew Faelar out with her, moving him to the side while she closed the door. Hopefully no one would be back. There was still some stuff that could be potentially useful in there. She turned the flashlight on long enough to check to make certain no one was at the ladder then quickly switched it off again. "I'll turn it on once we get to the bottom," she told Faelar. "No point in further advertising our location when we're stuck on a ladder." She headed down.

~~

Jonah closed the hatch securely then guided Misty to the closest shade. "Let's take a minute to let our eyes get used to the light," he told her, blinking against water in his eyes. So bright!

~~

Gray slowly moved the blanket off and sat up, running his hands through his pale hair. He kept his eyes shut, trembling slightly. He hadn't noticed it before with everything else going on, but he realized he could feel being above ground. It was a disorienting sensation, to say the least, and even dimmed the light felt harsh to him.

He nodded and waited foe her to be down before he followed. Sure the ladder wouldn't hold more than one of them at a time

"Lead on great warrioress" he smirked

--

Misty followed his lead, sitting down in the grass..grass..had it always been that green? She blinked away her own tears and plucked a few pieces to look closer, she nearly dropped it again when a ladybug crawled onto her finger. Didn't seem dangerous.

--

Pepper noticed and got to her feet, crossing the room to him "Gray? What's wrong?" She asked softly

"What?" Lynna asked with a confused frown. She flicked the light on again and pointed it at Faelar briefly before turning back to the task at hand. Now to get home without alerting anyone.

~~

"Are you alright now?" Jonah asked, standing at her shoulder. He watched her out of the corner of his eye, his main focus on the area around them.

~~

Gray moved his hands slowly as he signed, feeling clumsy. "I can feel we are no longer down below the earth. It feels wrong. Or at least different. I do not know how my body knows this."

He laughed "never met a womam feirce as you" he explained as he followed "kick ass I think is the expression?"

--

"Just a moment more" she answered, still staring at rhe bug, memorizing how it looked before it flew off

--

"Take your time to adjust...eish i could say I understand but I don't.." she said standinf up "let me get you some breakfast and water"

Lynna smirked at Faelar in the darkness. "Sounds about right, yeah. My mother always called it troublesome." Her smile faded a little. She hoped her mother was alright. They weren't exactly close in relationship, but she was still her mother.

~~

Jonah waited patiently, watching. "I read how they used to thin those little bugs meant good luck," he told her. "Hope it's true."

~~

Gray managed a nod. After a minute, he rose and stood unsteadily, getting a feel for things. Everything was fine, nothing had changed. It was probably all in his head, that was all. He was tripping himself up and imagining things. That had to be it.

Faelar grinned "well. I call it a trait of a warrior" he said as they walked, shamelessly praising her.

--

Misty smiled a little at that "good luck...I like that" she got back to her feet and gave a firm nod "alright...lets go see about the weather then" she got onto tje bag and pulled out her tablet "we should go to the top of the hill there to get a better heading.

--

Pepper went to the kitchen and rather than give him oatmeal she got out a couple of thr last eggs they had and some potatoes

"Thanks, I think," Lynna said. "You are easily impressed. Now come on, quickly now. We don't want anyone following us."

~~

Jonah looked around assessing the best way to proceed, then nodded. "Alright. This way. It's a bit longer, but the slope looks gentler." He started walking toward the easier side of the mountain, keeping a wary eye out. With the huge throng of people nearby, the animals had been scared away, but you could never be too careful up here.

~~

"Thank you," Gray signed. He took the food and ate quickly. "I do feel a little better now. How are you? How is your side?"

He smiled and followed her lead "how far to yar place?"

--

Misty followed his lead though her eyes were on the tablet, still squinting a bit with the bright light, not watching her feet

-

"Not going to believe this but it healed nearly completely over night. Just a little cut left that's it" Pepper told him. Having no idea

"Not too much farther, really," Lynna said. "I know a few short cuts. We could get there even faster if we could travel on the rooftops, but I don't want to risk it in the dark."

~~

Jonah suddenly reached out and caught Misty's good arm. "Careful. You're going to trip," he warned, stopping her before she stepped on a patch of loose rocks.

~~

Gray's brows rose. His eyes cut to Justira briefly then back to Pepper. "How remarkable! Mathias must have a good batch of medicine."

Misty looked up "Thanks..." she said glancing down at the rocks "Guess this is why I'm always falling.." she blushed faintly and slid the tablet into her sling "Too much time with my nose in books and now my tablet..." too much time hiding away from everything and everyone, hiding behind screens and closed doors.

--

"I suppose yeah" she did notice him glance at Justira though "Is she ok, seems to be sleeping pretty deeply"

"Tablets and books are all fine," Jonah assured her, "just not when you're walking through unfamiliar terrain, aye?" He glanced back to ensure nothing was following them. All clear so far, no sign of danger. "Truth, I never got into books much. Never the time to read, and only had those boring school books. Not much to tempt a fellow."

~~

"The journey took a lot out of her, that is all. She is not used to all the excitement," Gray assured her.

Pepper nodded "if you say so...I'll fix her some tea..." she offered "that always helps when I'm overwhelmed"

--

"Books have been..a comfort to me. Friends..as silly as that sounds" she wasn't sure why she admitted that to him "what were you doing that kept you so busy?"

"Thank you, Pepper. You have been very kind," Gray signed. "Peter, how is he taking things? Is he doing well?"

~~

"Working the sewer system with my old man from the time I was old enough to hold a flashlight steady," Jonah told her. "I thought I had won the greatest prize in the world when I was reassigned work. Didn't even care where it was so long as it wasn't with my old man."

"You're my friend Gray. Course I'll be kind" she smiled and slipped back over to the stove to put the water on to boil

Justira groaned a little, opening her eyes slowly.

--

Misty looked up at him "you didn't like the sewers?" She joked lightly but then more seirously added "you..didn't get along with your dad?"

Gray smiled slightly and turned to Justira. She was awake! He moved to kneel next to her and laid a light hand on her arm so she'd know he was there. He didn't want to startle her.

~~

Jonah shrugged then paused at a large break in the ground where a chunk of earth had fallen down, creating what looked like a waist-sized step. He picked up Misty and lifted her up the "step" and setting her down carefully. Then he climbed up with her. "The sewers were alright, I guess. Not exactly a dream to work in, but it was fullfilling work. My old man was... difficult."

Justora's eyes turned to him, she smiled "is it morning?" She signed, it was just after noon by that point

--

Misty watched him as he climbed up, she wasn't used to being picked up but it was nice not to struggle climbing up one armed.

"Difficult?" She repeated but didn't press further by continuing. "I'm..glad you got re- asigned" she smiled "may never have met you otherwise"

"Yes. Past morning," Gray signed. "You have slept a long time! Are you feeling well?" He was a little worried about her.

~~

Jonah shrugged again. He was finding it to be the easiest answer to Misty's questions. "He wasn't a bad man. Just him." He stopped walking and pointed out over the valley bellow them. They were not far up yet, but it was far enough up to give them a good view. "Like it?"

"I'm feeling fine. Just worn out" she signed, her hands shaking a little as she signed

--

Misty looked out where he pointed. It was a beutiful view but also scary knowing what lurked in those tree's "yes and no..." she decided to answer

"You do not seem fine," Gray remarked. He checked to make certain Pepper couldn't see his hands. "Did you heal Pepper's wound? Is that why you are so tired?"

~~

"Yes and no?" Jonah asked calmly, watching her instead of the scenery.
