Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Mathias nodded "we can spare more men to search for food tomorrow...we will take them in groups..show them what's safe" Mathias reasoned, eyes already closing

"Sleep..for now" he yawned and sank further into his chair

Badru grunted in agreement. Then his eyes wandered over to Pepper. He started to say something then stopped and settled down. Never mind. She needed rest and sleep.

Grey slowly moved out of his corner. The sun was going down, the light almost gone. It felt easier in here now.

Pepper was tucking Peter in for the night on a makeshift bed on the floor. There were rooms but best to share body heat with no heater running.

Justira had spent the day mixing medecine from herbs and things for future use. Noticing Gray move she smiled softly. She had an idea but it would have to wait until the others had gone to bed

Badru let his eyelids fall, but he was watching Pepper and Peter out of the corner of his eye, his expression never changing.

Lynna watched Misty drowsily. "So, what's in the box?" she asked.

Whence Pepper got him tucked in she settled down on the couch, just as tired as everyone else.

"My paints..pencils...my sketchbook..." Misty answered and took out a small plastic container "in the orphanage, I had a friend. Charlie...he introduced me to art" not something often seen anymore "he had this old book that showed how to make paints from plants and things...course..never had access to plants so we made due with whatever we could find"

"Didn't know you were an orphan. Thought your parents were just absent like mine," Lynna muttered. Then she laid down, out like a light in seconds. Who knew a floor could be so comfy?

Misty was about to reply but noticed sue had fallen asleep already so put her paints away and settled down to sleep too.

Justira waited until everyone else seemed to be asleep, still just sitting on the edge of the couch, she glanced to see if Gray was awake

Gray stood in the kitche, not doing anything or touching anything, just looking. His expression was unreadable as he moved silent as a shadow.

Justira stood up silently and walked over to the kitchen, waving a little to get his attention, she wouldn't touch him unless he said it was ok or an emergency.

Gray caught the movement out of the corner of his eye and turned to face her. He smiled a little. "You are awake late. Should you not be resting?"

"Time for that later" she signed "I want to show you something...will you come to the surface?" She held her hand out to him? Wrapped on several layers of cloth. Not a proper glove but seemed thick enough

Gray hesitated, his eyes flicking toward the doorway to the hatch out to the the surface world. He reached out to Justira, hesitated, almost pulled back, then placed his hand in hers. He had no real desire to see the surface, but she wanted him to. For her... he would try.

She smiled softly, she knew how hard thos was for him but also knew tonight would be the best time.

She lead him to the hatch and opened it up, letting the air in but, no light. The silver beams that had come in through the window the night before were not present. Only darkness beyond pricked with billions of tiny dots of light. Stars.

She gave him a moment before she climbed up and waited for him to follow

Gray stood on the threshold, his heart pounding. Well. Into the unknown. The Terrifying. The intreguing new world. Damn, sometimes he hated his own curiostiy. He followed Justira, his eyes slitted in preparation for bright light.

The brightness didn't come.

He followed her out and stood cautious, trembling slightly, his eyes almost closed.

She watched him a moment before she used her voice again, his eyes closed like that she couldn't use her hands to speak to him too well. "Open your eyes. The moon does not shine tonight" she promised him. Speaking louder than he had heard her before. Nobody but him around to hear

Gray jumped, not expecting her voice. Ah, yes, right. She could not exactly talk to him like this, could she? Cautiously, he opened his eyes all the way. The stars were bright, illuminating everything to him like tiny suns. He could see everything as clearly as others might in the daylight. Yet the light did not hurt like the sun had. He blinked and squinted as his eyes asjusted. So. This was the surface world.

She fell silent as she watched him drink it in, a light cool breeze tossed her long hair and brushed their skin. The sound of it rusting leaves and grass was gentle too though it spoke of a storm coming on its heals.

"Once in a moon phase. There is no moon, the world is darkest" she explained to him

Gray wanted to look at everything at once! He felt like the world was so big that he could not possibly see everything. There was too much! He tried to look at Justira as he signed in return, but his eyes kept getting pulled away to everything else. "Thank you. This is so beautiful! There is so much. I knew it was big, I knew the measurements, but it is one thing to know it and another to see for yourself."

Justira smiled "the world is big, beautiful but also dangerous" she said, but there was nothing out tonight to worry about.

"Come" she held her hand out to him again

Gray took her hand, willing to follow her anywhere. He craned his neck back, staring at the stars until his eyes watered. So bright and beautiful! He looked down and realized Justira's hair shone in the starlight, almost glittering. His own remained a muted color while hers gleamed.
