Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Pepper shifted a little, trying to decide how to phrase this "why do you father jack... and protect me like you do?" she asked him, direct she decided was best for this, especially with the language barrier

Badru looked down at her, his dark eyes still and serious. "Because I desire to," he said simply. "It is needed. It is wanted. I mean... I want it." He sounded a little uncertain at the end. Had he phrased those words right?

Pepper nodded a little, watching him as he spoke "You want to... but... why?" she needed to know and understand why he did what he did

Badru hesitated, his brow furrowed. Wasn't it enough to want to do it. He started to say something then stopped. He didn't know how to explain in either language. He wanted to because... he cared. More than he wanted to admit even to himself. How to put that into words when you won't even let your own heart tell your own mind? So he stood dumb before her. "Is... right," he finally said.

Pepper sighed and nodded a little "Because it's right..." she said softly, more to herself "I uh... I better get back to mending... she picked up the shoe and got back to work, not sure what more to say either

Badru stood watching her for a minute. He felt he had said the wrong thing, had totally missed some mark. He should have said something different. Something better. Pepper wanted an answer, a specific one, and he had failed. Abruptly, he turned and walked away. He didn't know what he was doing, but he needed to move or the door in his mind would open.

Pepper watched him go. Not sure what to think of any of this, she focused back on her work stitching the shoes and patching the jacket

Charlie pulled one of tje birds off and checked it "looks like dinner is ready" he smiled and pulled the others off too "tell the others?" He asked Lynna

"Sure thing!" She went to Gray first, nearly pulling him away from Justira to get him to come eat. Badru was next, then the rest. She saved Mathias and Arena for last. She couldn't help but feel a little sour with how close Arena was getting to Mathias, but wasn't sure why. "Food's ready! Want it to come to you or you go to it?"

Mathias looked up and sat his project aside for now "a little stretching of the legs might do me good" he said, standing up, looking better now then he had earlier, that was a good sign.

Justira was still fast asleep, she wouldn't wake for awhile yet

Arena rose with him, keeping an eye on him. "You are doing better," she stated. "Is there enough for Meme?"

Lynna hesitated. "Uh, I'll ask."

"Yes, doing better" he smiled and held a hand out to help her to her feet.

"You can give him one of the rabbits, just make sure we get the fur of it" Mathias told Lynna, the wolf was part of their group now as far as he was concerned, they would take care of him too

She hesitated than accepted the hand up. "You're welcome," she said, accidentally confusing it with "thank you."

Lynna nodded. "Perfect!" She picked out a good-sized rabbit and took it to Arena for aproval. "Just strip off the fur so we can use it."

Mathias smiled "It's thank you" he corrected gently, only trying to help, he understood she was trying to re-learn how to be human and use words again

Arena muttered the words to herself as she corrected herself. Then she took the rabbit and nodded to Lynna. "I will take care of it."

Lynna nodded. "Let me know if you need help. Come on, Mathias, your dinner is getting cold."

Mathias nodded and followed her back towards where the others had gathered to eat "How's the weather outside looking? Any signs of more snow coming?"

Lynna shook her head. "Not that I'm aware of. It seems to have calmed down for now, but Badru said the snow can get very deep here. He says the deep snow makes great food storage."

"Yes but it does make hunting and gathering a bit harder" he pointed out "I'd like to get a good storage of food going before we get more snow.." he was worried which made sense, he had a better idea than the others what winter was like, Justira and Badru the exception of course

"True enough," Lynna agreed. "Don't worry about that, though. I'm getting the hang of gathering thanks to Charlie, and Badru and Arena have it covered with hunting. Did you see how much they brought in earlier?"

Mathias nodded "I did see" he smiled "we need to get some bigger game soon though for furs. It's goong to get much much colder before long. What we have right now won't be enpugh"

"Well, if you hurry up and make a bow, we'll have no problem!" Lynna grinned. She urged him to sit by the fire and handed him his plate. "Eat up! A Charlie original."
