Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

Mathias nodded and said no more about it, watching her go a moment.

Justira was just working away on the bricks, glancing up briefly when she noticed movement again "what did he say?" She signed

--

She smiled, still blushing "I do" she answered softly? Heart fluttering in her chest

Lynna plopped down in front of her and signed, "He said yes! He will send Badru with us, and we must move quickly, but he thinks it is a good thing." She paused a moment before continuing, "I had an idea about the bricks and drying them."

~~

Jonah took a deep breath and slid his hand around behind her head, pulling her in for a soft, gentle kiss. He almost trembled at the foreign yet welcome sensation.

Justira smiled, glad she could offer up some sort of help for them, even if it was sad going back to her home that was no doubt mostly destroyed "What is your idea?" she then asked

--

Misty's breath caught as she kissed him back, even expecting it it was a surprise he'd actually done it, some part of her still thinking him liking her this way was all just a dream but this was certainly real and was perfect.

"Well, we use heat to fully seal the bricks, right? And the sun takes a while, and fire works but is slow, but what if we built a pile of bricks around a really long fire and closed it up so te heat could seal them?" Lynna suggested.

~~

Jonah slowly drew back, letting their kiss end, and smiled at Misty, suddenly shy. "How was that?" he asked, his voice cracking just a bit.

She smiled "You're talking about a brick oven. That will be much more ideal, as soon as we have enough bricks to build it, good for cooking and firing more bricks much faster" Lynna was very much on the right track with her idea

--

Misty let out a soft breath she hadn't realized she was holding "It was perfect" she said softly "I'd welcome your kisses anytime" she added, blushing. relationships in general was a whole new thing to her let alone kissing. But she found she liked the sensation.

"Alright, but surely there's a faster way to make the bricks for the oven," Lynna said. "So what I mean is like making a long tunnel of bricks and putting fire in a trench inside. That should work, right?"

~~

Jonah gave her a crooked grin. "So, I guess we're an item, now?" he asked quietly. He liked having everything clear and laid out neatly without any guesswork.

"It would yes, but I worry about using too much fuel" she explained her concern with that "We don't have much stock piled for winter as is"

--

She smiled "Well I assumed we were after we confessed our feelings" she said "But... yes.. if you'd like to be"

"We live in the middle of a forest. Just light a tree on fire," Lynna said, a little exasperated. The way she saw it, there was wood everywhere! She didn't understand why everyone was so worried about wood for winter. Just go out, chop down a tree or two, cut it in pieces, and there you go! The idea of needing to let the wood dry and season never occurred to her.

~~

"I'd like to be," Jonah said firmly. "I just wanted to be clear."

Justira sighed but smiled patiently "You can't burn green wood, it must be dry. That takes more time than we have. We must collect what is already dry to use now and in the near future and store more cut wood to dry for the deep winter when we cannot collect what is already dead" she tried to explain

--

Misty smiled "Well then, we are" she leaned over and kissed him this time just to solidify that fact

Lynna waved a hand. "There's loads of dead wood! More every time a wind blows through. Surely it cannot be that hard. What if we collect enough wood to get us through winter then get more? Plus, something like this will be ridiculously hot. We wouldn't need a fire in here."

"The brick oven I have in mind will be big enough to keep us warm, cook with, and fire our bricks, it will get us through this winter, you don't know how much wood it takes to survive, I do" Justira said, becoming more worried they didn't understand what they were in for

Lynna shrugged. "Fine, but I still don't see how we're even going to make bricks in time for that. This is taking forever! But fine, we'll do it your way." She stood and walked away, needing a break. She felt... angry. She wasn't even sure why, she just was.

Justira sighed, the way she just walked off and the look on her face, she was worried she had angered Lynna. She hadn't meant to. She was only trying to help. She looked over at their small pile of finished bricks.

Rather than take a break she just refocused and kept working. Her back would not thank her later

After a while, Gray came and sat in front of her. He waited for Justira to notice him then smiled and signed, "You seem troubled. Is something the matter?"

She sighed and set aside the brick she was working on before she signed "I think I upset Lynna"

"We were talking about bricks and firewood. I don't know what upset her about that" Justira signed "but she looked upset" she glanced towards Lynna briefly

Gray considered this for a moment. "Maybe it was not what you were actually talking about. Maybe she is upset about something else and just chose this as an outlet," he suggested. "I do not know how firewood and bricks could make her upset."

Justira shrugged "I don't know. I did not mean to male her upset. Maybe you can talk to her? You know her better than me"

Gray nodded. "I can try. I do not know how far I will get, but I will try. You try not to worry too much, okay? I know you meant no harm."
