Stahlhiem: College of Magic (Rebooted!) IC

Thal - Dorms

Thal thinks about Simon's questions for a while before continuing. "I will assume you will need to talk to his adviser. I could help if you'd like. My authority outranks him. As for why I am helping...I rather not say." He explained.

Simon - Dorms

With a warm smile Simon caught Thal's eyes "Thank you sire, Thank you for all your help" silence overtook the room for the few seconds until Simon finally spoke up again "I doubt we need you to do anything directly because i'm sure I can set up the meeting once you tell me the advisor's name"

coro- Dorms

"I dont know it might be better if thal sets it up the advisor might just ignore us if we try." Coro deemed it necessary to put in her thought about this.

Simon - Dorms

"Well, It's obvious that Lord Thal's father wants to see you so it shouldn't be difficult" he then gave a sly smile "Plus I do have some contacts of my own. If my lord wishes to help then I cannot stop him but he's already given us plenty of help. I'm sure we can handle the rest ourselves"

Time Skip - A week

The day that the Headmaster had announced had arrived. In a short time the General Vridil Willehalm and his 8000 men will pass through the city gates. The city is in high spirits as bakers, butchers, craftsmen, jewelers and even priests gather in the town square to sell all sort of commodities such as religious symbols, weapons, food, desserts, toys and their services to their fellow civilians and the coming soldiers. The College itself has called off all schedules and allowed the students to have unsupervised access to the city as congratulations for their hard work. Many students who had saved their allowance or have many wealthy connections had tossed aside their robes to go on long shopping sprees and others had set up their own stalls for sell trinkets, and some act as street performers to earn a bit of Crown. The townsfolk had also set up many different activities for the festivities such as apple bobbing, archery, ball toss and more adult activities such as Beat the Dwarf, fruiting caged prisoners and gambling on knife fights.

The walls are sprawling with militia running around, getting into their position and trying to pull a good impression for the arriving general and on the walls is Headmaster Arnest, who for the day thrown away his title of Headmaster to carry the title of Province Governor and the head of House Rando, Theu Rando. The two watched the horizon as they can see the marching soldiers a ways off.

"8000 soldiers Governor? I must admit I am rather disappointed. I was hoping the Empire can muster 20000 at the very least." Commented Theu

"8000 fine men and women able to stand against all that will be thrown against them. It will be more then enough to create a foothold within Stalia. If I recall, your House has a garrison of 10000 do you not?" Replied Governor Arnest

"Yes. 10000 elite warriors, all trained for decades from the age of 10. All have weapons and armor forged from the finest smiths and enchanted by the brightest mages and all are willing to die should I command it. What does this army have that my garrison does not?" Theu asks

"....We stand united under a single banner. That of the High King's. This army is the work of millions of hands joining together to keep their families safe and the families of those beyond. What you consider an army of 10000 elite warriors, we call an army of indentured slaves. They know only battle and therefore can only do battle. This army of 8000 men, soon to be 10000, are forged from fathers, mothers, heroes, beggars, criminals and priests all willing to fight and die. They know the risks and know why they fight. What better army then one of created from the willing?" Replied the Governor

"Hmm...you have made a good point Governor." Replied Theu. "Perhaps I should hold my tongue until I know the true scope of the Empire's might."

In the middle of town was an event of Beat the Dwarf. A boy named Kodner was playing it with the rest of the town folk. As the "dwarf" burst open Piles of candy spillled out. Kodner took a basket he made himself and filled it with as much candy as he could.

Simon was eating a corn dog with Coro wondering someplace in the general area. Once he saw a Verdant boy who had prepared a basket to take as many candies as possible Simon just shook his head in disgust. Content not to let some cheapskate ruin his time Simon finished his corndog then walked up towards a knife throwing booth. He passed the man a few pieces of gold then examined the three knives set in front of him. They were large dull knives but then again they were supposed to be thrown. Simon gripped the bladed end with his gloved right hand then pulled it behind his ear, took a deep breath and whoosh the knife flew through the air and hit the board with a thud. The blade had sunk itself on the outer layer not even gaining him any points.

His second and third attempt faired much better but both still struck the outer ring and Simon didn't earn any prizes. He gave out a hearty laugh as he went on his way.

After stuffing candy in his basket Kodner sat down at a bench to put the candy in a bag for more room in the basket. After he tried playing a few carnival games. He went to the knife throwing game. Just as the borderman was leaving he handed the man some gold and started playing. Kodner only hit the outside ring and the very edge of it. In fact one of the knives almost hit the previous player. He was much better with throwing darts anyways.

"Sorry!" he shouted at the borderman.

"GODS" shouted Simon "How the hells do you even hit a guy that's already behind you" He exclaimed

"Like did you cover your hands in oil or something" Simon laughed "Whelp see ya I got to go look for my uhh shit what is she she's like the closest thing I have to a friend" he pondered "Yeah my friend. We've got some meeting to get to" he waved the Elf goodbye

coro-food stands

After coro had finished her corndog she wondered around the food stalls until reaching one that sells pieces of cake. Once she buys a piece of cake she starts looking around for simon while eating the delicious treat.

"Bye," Kodner said. He waved back at the person before quickly walking away. Not long after walking away his stomach growled.

"I guess it's time for lunch," he says looking at how much gold pieces he has, "A few kebabs will do." He walks towards a food stall selling kebabs and buys a few. He hands his gold pieces to the person. After that Kodner finds a spot to sit down at to watch the parade.

Simon saw Coro near the stands then leaned over when she cut a piece of cake "Feed me" he said playfully with an open mouth

Coro chuckles at simons playfulness "Nope you get to starve just kidding" coro then puts a piece of cake in simons mouth.

The bells begin to ring and the horns begin to play as the gates of the city walls begin to open. From over the walls flew two Empire Dragons, one red and one Orange followed two dozen War Griffons, huge beasts thrice the size of a horse compared to that of the Griffons in use by the College to pull wagons. At the front of the line is trio of Steam Tanks, the lead tank being ridden by an old man wearing ornate steel armor and carrying a shield with a golden battle-ax with a green handle on a white background, the symbol of a united Empire, and an ornate longsword at his side. Following the tank pack is an unit of knights in red armor, the Knights of the Bleeding Heart, a rarely seen chapter of undead hunters. Following them is a unit of Border Knights, knights wearing shimmering armor who's oaths make them near unbreakable. This pattern continued three times before they got the State Troop, the basic infantry of the Border Empire, made up of men and women, Bordermen and Beastmen alike carrying swords, spears, halberds, bows, crossbows and handguns. This was the longest line as the State Troop made up most of the army. Next were the Void Born, a small part of the army but power part as they do not feel pain, nor feel fear at the thought of death as it no longer has any meaning to them. Next came the Engineers, wheeling in Mortars and Cannons forged at the Engineer's College and manned by some of the finest young minds that they had trained, and finally the Nugs Mercenaries, like the college Nugs are large and brutish creatures carrying weapons that could never be carried by a normal man.

On the top of the wall, Governor Arnest and Patriarch Theu watched as the line walked into the city to parade. This was merely a tenth of the actual army as the need to set up camp in the city outskirts since the city wouldn't be able to provide enough lodging for 8000 soldiers.

"Impressive. I must say this display of power is most impressive indeed." Commented Theu.

"I'm glad you enjoy it. General Vridil Willehalm is one of the finest generals in the Empire. Now if you don't mind me asking, why did you request to witness this? If you wish to estimate our military might you simply had to talk to the High King." Replied Governor Arnest

"No such reason. I merely wish to see what sort of military the Empire had formed. Whether it be one of honor or one of murder. From what I witnessed I must say I was not disappointed."

Finishing his second kebab Kodner had 2 more left. When he heard the bells he looked up and saw the army walking in. He watched in amazement of the size of the army.

Simon bit down onto the cake then ran towards the parade. He joined the crowd in whooping and shouting at the military units as well as throwing confetti he pulled from his pockets just for fun.

Harrison stood there in awe, sandwich between his hands forgotten as his arms go slack at the sight before him. Standing just inside the city's western gates, his eyes widening as he tries to take in the sight before him. His mind reeled as it was rushed by a plague of thoughts, mostly by along the lines of 'Is that a dragon?! Is that two dragons?!' and 'Maybe the stories about the city were true, and they do have festivals every day.'

But the parade wasn't the only thing that entranced him, despite its abundance of magical creatures and entities. As he looked around, Harrison noted one prevailing factor. 'There are so many people!' He mentally exclaimed. So many brightly coloured people, of all ages! Some of them had wings! Wings! A woman over there even had wolf ears and a tail! Are... are those scales? Did someone just breath fire? What looney land did he just step into! You couldn't see this happening from outside the walls!

Sitting down on the sidewalk, Harrison quickly finishes off his sandwich as he places his head in his hands and tries to come up with a plan for dealing with this. He hadn't believed the rumours about all day parades in the city, but if it were true how the hells was he going to get to the college?

Coro chuckles at the sight of simon running around enjoying himself. coro begins to wonder again after finishing the cake eventually finding a small fighting ring with a crowed of people cheering at the fight. One of the spectators stumbled into the ring obviously drunk his opponent was a large muscly bald man that had won all the previously fights so far. The match did not last very long as it only took a single hit to the face for the drunk man to be knocked out. Coro jumped into the ring before anyone else could and tossed a bag of crowns to the Ref for her bet.
