The Vampire's Apprentice

"The worst part is," Dorothy sniffled, wiping her eyes, "EJ blames Norville for not doing more. He doesn't realize how much Norville took trying to protect him. He blames me, too, and I do not hold that against him, but oh, how I wish..."

Clancy gently wiped away her tears with his thumb. "There, there," he soothed. "You cannot change the past, only learn and grow. It's alright."

She looked into his eyes, and something changed in her demenor. Her eyes went glassy, her mouth opened slightly, and her limbs relaxed. Clancy held her gaze, calming her, bringing her under his spell.

To the extent of Kitty's knowledge, this was the first time she had seen this level of his power, lacking remembrance of the time he had used it on her. Her head tilted just slightly, and though she wanted to, she couldn't find it within herself to look away. It was far too intriguing to ignore, but the notion of blood brought on a mild fidget habit; her thumb pressed into the palm opposite and rubbed gently. Still, the girl didn't stop him. It was not her place, nor her right. She remained silent.

"There," Clancy soothed, brushing Dorothy's hair from her face. "There. Everything is alright. Peace, calm, and serenity. You are going to enjoy this and leave here satisfied, not questioning what happened. There." He took her arm instead of going for the neck this time and carefully pulled up her sleeve. "Speak of this to no one," he told her as he did so. "You have done nothing wrong, only turned to a friend for comfort."
"A friend... for comfort," she repeated mechanically.

There's a good chance she would have a lot of questions later—questions which, at the moment, she was having a hard time bitting back (no pun intended.) Kitty dug a thumbnail into her palm, continuing not to speak.

"Close your eyes. Relax. Enjoy," Clancy purred. He lifted Dorothy's arm then paused. He turned and caught Kitty's look. She almost looked hungry the way she was watching him, trying to learn. He merely raised a brow. Privacy, please? Then he turned his back and used two fingers to find the pulse in the crook of Dorothy's elbow. There.

Eh, fine. Kitty made her way upstairs to where Sam was waiting, closing the bedroom door tightly behind her.

Sam pushed up against Kitty and happily licked her legs and arms. HUMAN!!! Human was here again! Oh, how he'd missed his human! She'd been gone for AGES!!

Alone now, Clancy opened a vein in Dorothy's arm and drank deeply. Ah, that was refreshing! So healing. Yes, there were some impurities thanks to a smoking habit she'd been trying to quit for the last ten years, but other than that, she was strong, healthy, and made a lot of good blood. He cleaned off her arm when he was finished, put a bandaid on it, and gently told her to go home and rest. She deserved it.
He sat for a moment and sighed, enjoying the sensation of being full as his injuries finally healed all the way. He had work to do, but that would wait just a bit longer.

Sam finally calmed down and sat contentedly by the bed. Good human.

Clancy came up after a few minutes to close her door, looking the pink of health once more.

Kitty was still awake, writing things down on her notepad. She looked up after a moment, only just then noticing him, and tucked the pencil behind her ear.

She shifted to face him, letting the notepad rest on her lap. It was an effort to contain the grin that kept tugging at her lips, knowing something about the day that he did not.
"You certainly sound better. And look better." Kitty commented.

"And you look like the cat that ate the canary," Clancy remarked, eying her curiously. "Is there something you would like to share with the rest of the class, Miss Kitty?"

"Hmm, alright, then," he said, eyeing her suspiciously, yet still smiling in amusement. "I do hope you will share your secret soon, though."

"You will know." Kitty agreed. "Just not yet."

She paused for a moment before continuing. "Are you well enough for me to ask you questions?"

Kitty briefly glanced down at the notepad, gathering something simple to ask. "If you could be human again, what's one thing you'd do?"

That sparked an idea, which she promptly scribbled down, but kept to herself. She asked another question. This one made Kitty smile, as she had forgotten she'd written it down. "What is your silliest fear?"
