Clancy waited until he thought Kitty was asleep or at least had her light out. Then he opened Mrs. Mooney's letter and read quickly. A brow bounced, but then he gave a slight nod before rising and heading downstairs. He called the neighbor and stood in his bedroom to not disturb Kitty.
"Ah, Mrs. Mooney! I do apologize for the lateness. I was waiting for her to fall asleep. As for your condition... yes, I can agree to those terms. Yes, thank you. As for our potential plans..."
He talked and worked through the night, shutting Kitty's door and keeping as quiet as possible. It was a bit of a rushed job in some areas, but that could not be helped. Adjustments could be made later. Finally, just before sunrise, he disappeared into the basement, smiling to himself in anticipation of the next day.

Sam woke up and stood his front paws on Kitty's bed, staring down at her. He didn't bark or paw, just stared. He needed to go outside, please.
