The Vampire's Apprentice

Kitty glanced back at him, then sighed and sat down at the end of her bed. "I'm not promising not to check if you're alright, Norville. I will ask. You can lie if you like, but I will ask."

"No, I mean..." Norville shook his head. "Pretend like it's okay if I hurt you. Pretend like maybe it's your fault. Please... I don't want you to feel like you can't tell me off or something."

"No, no, no," Kitty waved her hand. "You haven't hurt me at all. Even if you had, I wouldn't pretend." That, and she was terrible at hiding it, most times.

Norville nodded slowly. "Okay. Thank you for being concerned about me." Suddenly, he moved over to her and hugged her tight. "You're the best friend I've ever had."

She was caught off-guard by this sudden show of emotion, though it was not unwelcome. Kitty patted him gently, feeling the warmth in her cheeks. "I'll always be around, if you need me."

Kitty chuckled. "He'd better be good while we're gone. No destroying stuff. Though, I'd like to let him outside first." She went to retrieve Sam's leash, then looked to Norville. "Want to see if you can find the hall in the meantime?"

Norville nodded and moved to open the door for her. "Will you be able to find me?"
Sam spotted the leash and started wiggling all over. Out time! Out time!

"Maybe not as well as Clancy might, but I'll manage." Kitty clipped Sam and grinned at Norville. "Don't get into too much trouble without me."

"I'll try not to," Norville said seriously and opened the door.
Sam eagerly trotted to the door, only pulling a little. He was not much of a puller on the leash despite his lack of training. His neck seemed more sensative, and therefore he didn't like to try to pull. Now, however, there was something worth pulling for. Outside!

Kitty waved to Norville, following Sam to outside. Mornings were a tad cooler than they had been, but still rather humid, the air seeming to become more waterlogged the closer to Connecticut they drew.

Sam made a beeline for the grass and did his business before wandering around aimlessly. He wanted to stretch his legs and burn off a little energy.

Kitty let the dog wander about for a few minutes, but eventually had to lead him back inside. She was hungry, and it was time to find Norville.

Sam went with her willingly enough, trotting along beside her like a show dog. A show dog with scars still showing through his fur, nubs for ears, no tail, and ridiculous muscles.

Norville had gotten himself some juice and was sitting in the corner of the small eating room, his back to the wall as he watched the other four travel zombies wander about trying to figure out how to work a breakfast buffet line.

Kitty made sure the door was locked tightly behind her, then went searching for her familiar companion. He wasn't particularly difficult to find; sipping juice in the corner. The girl slipped in beside him.

He had her at waffles. Kitty looked out across the room to see if she could locate the waffle iron and found it sitting neglected on one end of the L shaped counter.
"Did you want something, Norville?" She asked, pulling her eyes away from the small metal machine and back to her friend.
